Can't open iTunes anymore!

I use Garage Band and iTunes (for the last six months), and haven't had more than the usual amount of trouble, but yesterday after finishing a song in GB, I told it to export to iTunes, and it tried...it finished up until the part where iTunes automatically opens and the file appears in iTunes. Instead of that happening, iTunes opened, and I saw in the iTunes status window: "Copying 1 of 1: Bounced" then that failed, then the OSX message "Error: Cannot read or write to disk." I checked the permissions for the HD, and "Read and Write" is NOT highlighted as an option. However, I can save documents anywhere but GB. So I reinstalled all my OSX software, including iTunes. Now iTunes won't open at all--it tries, and then I get a message that it unexpectedly quit. I thought it might be a Library issue, so I tried dragging the library onto the desktop, even the old libraries. Nothing changed. I reinstalled iTunes, but still the same thing. I don't know what else to try! Can anyone help? I have to sleep now, but I will check back in the a.m.

Victoria hello,
when you wake up put the proper library back in the iTunes folder ... the library with the most up-to-date info...
Select this library and and type command - D ... this will duplicate it.... put the original Library file on the desktop ... change the name of the duplicate to be iTunes Library and then double / click on the file after the name change has been updated
tell me if it all works okay now .... take care Victoria ... TP

  • Can't open iTunes anymore.  Get error message

I recently got an iTouch. Also recently got a new computer. I downloaded iTunes onto new computer (Windows Vista) and it worked just fine. iTouch worked too. However, one day I went to open iTunes and it didn't open. I got an error message that said: iTunes application could not be opened. Unknown error occurred (13014). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times but still get the same error message. Can anyone help me?

    Hey there,
The page below might be able to help you out. Some say that by restarting your computer fixes the problem. You probably have already attempted this, but maybe try one or two more times. No harm done there. Hope this helps.

  • Loaded update and can't open iTunes anymore

just installed the update and now it will not open? Any advice?

Verify your hard drive with Disk Utility (not the permissions verify, the other one).  If it needs repairing then we can go into that.  Next, repair permissions with DU.  Now download the iTunes updater.  Don't use Software Update.  Install the update.  Run DU again to repair permissions.  Try iTunes again.
Ideally you should back up your computer before running any update.  If an update causes problems and results in file loss then you won't have ot worry.

  • Can't run Itunes anymore...

I have been using Itunes for 3 months. I had 2 hard drives, the C being for the softwares (that's where Itunes was installed) and the D for the data (that's where I put Itunes folder : my music). However, I had to remove the D hard drive and now, I can't open Itunes anymore, I can't uninstall Itunes and I can't even re-install it. Always the same error message : can't find the D drive. Although I have a My mucic with my Itunes librairy on the C drive, it's not working... please help me!

First make backup copies of these four files:
    1) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    2) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    3 & 4) The two iTunes.pref files
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
Then delete them all from their original locations. Reboot the PC and start iTunes. Do not allow iTunes to re-scan your PC for music files. You should end up with a 'blank' Library. Close iTunes. Then proceed to uninstall iTunes as described below.

(Compiled from the collective wisdom of toonz and Da Gopha)
If you want to guarantee a successful upgrade and be proactive about minimizing potential install issues, do the following:
    1. Completely Backup your music and iTunes library files.
    2. Virus check / spyware scan your machine. Use several quality programs to completely scan your PC – all drives. EWIDO seems to be one used by many here. Free at: http://www.ewido.net/en/
    3. Completely remove / uninstall the current version of iTunes and QuickTime from your system.....
3a. - Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
3b. - Do a Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
3c. - Then download and install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
.....And make sure iTunes is really gone.
    4. Delete the contents of your temp folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
    5. Reboot the PC
    6. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    7. Start with the QuickTime standalone installer. Download it and save it to your hard drive. Then run it from the PC (not directly from on-line)
    8. Reboot the PC
    9. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    10. Completely download the latest iTunes Installer. Save it to your PC. Then run it from the saved location of your PC
    11. Reboot the PC
    12. Open iTunes and enjoy
The majority of problems out there on the discussion boards are caused by viruses or other system corruption — sometimes self-inflicted by the user (i.e. - people who turn off necessary Windows services) — or out of date drivers. You may want to consider this if your PC falls into one of these categories.

    Hello there, Vinnie.
The following Knowledge Base article addresses the very issue you're describing:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

  • I can't open Itunes store anymore

    Hi,
At first, excuse my french !
    I can't open Itunes Store.
I Updated my Iphone with the latest IOS 7 and now when I want to start Itunes I can't.
I touch the Icon but nothing happens.
Would you please help me ?
    Best regards

    Hello Calapachaeu,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store after upgrading to iOS 7.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the iTunes Store app, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:

  • I can't open iTunes in Windows 7

I can't open iTunes in Windows 7 even I download the latest version.
    (iPhone is iOS 5.0.1)
It's 64-bit Windows 7 and every time I clicked "Agree" in tthe software license, it doesn't work.
Then the PC helping centre shows the following sentence:
"iTunes can not work normally anymore.iTunes has the latest version to download, this will solve the problem.Apple Inc. suggest you to upgrade to newest version of iTunes, to improve the safety and stability."
This shows for many times and I keep upgrade iTunes. How to  solve this problem?
P.S. Sorry for any grammatical and spelling mistakes. The sentence is translated by me from Chinese, hope you can know what I mean.

There are various things this could be. First restart you computer
Check to see if you QUicktime works as iTunes can't work without it. If it doesn't work, describe what happens.
Then run a virus and spyware scan as malware has been known to do this.
Then check to see if disabling your forewall allows iTunes to start, this hasn't been seen for a while, but in the past firwall blocking has caused iTunes to hang.
    Then work through this Apple help on troubleshooting launch failures;

No one can help you here, because you jailbroke the iPad. You should go to one of their forums. Good luck, because Apple doesn't honor the warranty anymore.

  • Can't open iTunes and Mail after installing Yosemite

Hi, I intsalled Yosemite and after the Installation i can't open iTunes and Mail anymore, how can i fix this ?

    Long shot.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

  • I can't open iTunes, dialogue says I need QuickTime 7.5.5.

I can't open iTunes, dialogue says I need QuickTime 7.5.5, but when I download the upgrade it won't install over my QuickTime Pro 7.2.1. How do I upgrade QT so it'll be compatible with my iTunes?
    -Rob

    BDA and TMM,
Excellent thanks. I've got iTunes working now, after downloading the latest version of iTunes by clicking Software Update from the Apple menu. And I downloaded QuickTime 7.7 from the links you recommended, BDA. For some reason I'd been unable to locate the latest QT for Leopard no matter how hard I tried—it was probably staring me in the face all the while.
    Much appreciated,
