Can't open itunes.  Get an Application error

When opening itunes it gives me the following below:

Just got a chance to try this.  It looks like updating to version 11 did the trick.  It's funny, but I couldn't get it to download through Firefox, so ultimately went through IE and saved to desktop and then installed.  About halfway through the download it came up and said it lost connection to server.  When I went to download it again it picked up where it left off.  It worked.  That was all done through IE.  I must have Firefox settings messed up because it wouldn't give me the option of saving the download and it wouldn't run.  Who cares.  Thanks for the help!

Can't open iTunes, get error message (-50)?

The 50 when launching iTunes can indicate a damaged Apple Application Support. So first I'd try a Repair install of your Apple Application Support.
Restart the PC. In your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select Apple Application Support, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, does itunes launch without the (-50)?

  • TS1717 I can't open Itunes, I have an error that says says MSVCR80.dll is not found. I have tried twice to uninstall and reinstall but keep getting the same error message. Can anyone help?

I can't open ITunes, I have an error message that says MSVCR80.dll is not found. Is anyone able to help solve this issue for me. I have tried to unistall and reinstall ITunes twice but continue to get the same error message.

A msi file is short for microsoft installer.  It normally is for installation, removal, and maintenance for a program. So iTunes.msi would be used for the updating of the program.  For some reason it isnt finding this so we can't update, install, or remove it.
From what I have seen windows installer cleanup utility solved related problems before.
I found this forum about removing and installing a new iTunes.  It was about someone who was trying to isntall iTunes, and was looking for msi file and asked for help.   Using this should allow you to be able to install iTunes.  It won't give you the msi file but will allow you to isntall iTunes over again.
    This was what was said.
Another option in case you can't get an msi. (Or even if you can ... the msi's mentioned in the messages may be damaged rather than missing.)
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Hi gingerjacker,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Did you restart your Mac and try again?  Sounds simple, but it's a good first step when troubleshooting.
If the issue persists you may need to delete iTunes from the Applications folder and download a fresh copy.  This does not affect your iTunes library, which is in a different location.

    Post back with the result.

  • So, I can't open iTunes - get a WerFault.exe - Application Error

OK.  Two days ago, iTunes worked just fine.  No updates between then and now.  Nothing new installed on my computer.  I tried to open iTunes today to listen to my music, and get this:
It pops up at least 3 times, and one time somewhere areound 15 or 20 times, and iTunes doesn't open!  I am a certified computer tech, so went through all the troubleshooting I know - even redownloaded iTunes, ran it, and choose to "Repair" iTunes.  I even removed iTunes and completely re-installed it, and it STILL does it!  What the **** is going on?

...the screenshot didn't stay there... the error window has the following:
    WerFault.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0x703120e0 referenced memory at 0x8ead6a78.  The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

  • Can't open iTunes-getting error (-3212)

I just used iTunes w/i the last week. Opened iTunes yesterday & it gave me a box that read "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unknown error occurred (-3212). Make sure your network connection is active and try again." My brand new iPhone (as in yesterday) was plugged in the usb when I got this error. I closed the box & tried to open the iTunes store & it would either give me the error or it wanted my password which I have not had to enter before because it was saved. I don't remember my password, don't use the old email it was created under & I have locked myself out trying. I am going insane because I am clueless what has happened. Anyone have any ideas?

Kept searching discussion board & found solution. McAfee for some reason changed firewall access to blocked. Changed to full access & iTunes now opens with no problem. Next issue is password problem. Still need to figure out what to do there.

  • Can't open itunes because of quicktime error message

    hi
when i try opening itunes i get a message saying it can't run because it detects an error with quicktime. it says click "help". then i get something saying, "http status-message kb/304424". it also says description requested response not available. does anyone know how i can fix this?
    thank you

iTunes depends on a good QuickTime install, because it uses QT codecs for video and audio.
Does QT open OK? If not, uninstall it using Control Panel > ADd/Delete Programs. Then install the standalone version. More detail:

  • Can't open iTunes! "DrWatson Fatal Error"

hi. uhh i bought my ipod yesterday morning, its a black 30 gig ipod video. i already had iTunes and quicktime on my computer from my old ipod ( the 20 gig no color all white brick ipod ). when i tried to just plug in my new ipod to my computer and open itunes to see if i could just put my songs onto my new ipod, iTunes wouldnt even start. i uninstalled itunes and updated my ipod and then reinstalled the latest version of itunes downloaded directly off www.apple.com. still, the second i open itunes, it crashes and says DrWatson Fatal Error "Dr. Watson was unable to attach to the process. It is possible the process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it. Windows 2000 returned error code = 87. The parameter is incorrect." i re-installed itunes and everything that had to do with my ipod including quicktime and restarted my computer and re-installed everything then restarted my computer and then tried it, praying that it would finally work. NOPE, it crashed instantaneously with the same error message. frustrated, i called apple support and spoke with a representative named Kelly. she told me to do everything that i had already done , i obeyed without question. after wasting 20 minutes of my time, we had accomplished nothing. the same error occurred and i was still mad. She later told me to follow the directions on some article under the support page of this website, i read it and followed all of the directions step by step. still. dr watson fatal error. so if anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this pain, please reply to this thread or email me at [email protected] thanks in advance.

    hiya!
... good lord, i've seen that before. i call it the "Jack Gilbert special".
it's fairly rare, but there is a virus out there that produces itunes launch failures like that (sometimes without error messages, but at other times with the "itunes has ..." message), and also produces those weird Dr Watson messages.
i don't know which virus it is (nobody ever tells me which virus it is), but the free trial version of Panda antivirus has a good record against it. try googling for the Panda download site.
    keep us posted.

Unable to upgrade iTunes to lasted version.  Got error message about a missing file.  Tried to uninstall and reinstalled, after deleting Temp folder from C drive, but still get error message 126.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

    Hello mvguillet,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.
You can find the full article here:

  • Can't open iTunes, continue to receive Error 7 (Windows Error 193)

    Dear iTunes community,
iTunes won't launch, despite several re-install attempts.  Note that QuickTime will launch.
Specs - Running Windows XP, Professional Version 5.1, Service Pack 3
    Have received two error messages:
    1. Error 7 (Windows Error 193)
    2. Application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Webkit.dll is not a valid Windows image.
This is a work computer and we recently went through an upgrade.  We use Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    2. Application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Webkit.dll is not a valid Windows image.
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click Repair.
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post (although it's for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things):
Re: I recently updated to vista service pack 2 and I updated to itunes 10.2.1 and ever since I did that my itunes won't open any more.  Itunes starts but before anything loads a window pops up saying that the prograam has encountered a problem and sh...

  • Can't open iTunes any more?! (after software update)

After the last software update I can't open iTunes any more. Error message: "you can't open the application itunes because it is not supported on this type of mac". how is that possible? does the system really update to a itunes version, I can't run? how stupid is that?
    thanks!

I think what you are saing is that you have error message free launch failure with iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab .
If so this is commonly due to a problem with cryptographic services. Here is a diagnostic Method for working out the problem:
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.
