Can't open latest version of iTunes in Windows 8

I have installed the latest version of iTunes for Windows 8. I cannot open iTunes. I attempted opening in Safe Mode, received the Safe Mode pop-up, selected "Continue," and iTunes was not opened. What can I do to access iTunes?

Hey clappinghappy,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. If you issue persists after attempting to open iTunes in safe mode, the next step would be to test in a new user account:

After isolating the issue further, see the applicable section (User-specific troubleshooting or System-wide troubleshooting)
Thanks,

    Hey gallaleo3,
First, if you already haven't, try downloading the latest version here:
    www.apple.com/itunes/download
Then, if you have issues installing it from there, I would use the recommended steps in here:

  • Can't install latest version of itunes. "Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified." Help?

Can't install latest version of itunes. "Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified." Help?

I had this, and after a large number of fruitless attempts, I had to reload Windows, which solved it. This was of course a real pain, but I had to do it since updating iTunes was necessary in order to get the new iOS version. But before doing such a drastic thing, you could try to restore Windows to a previous point in time by picking a restore point. This of course presumes that you really have some issues with your Windows (which I had) and that you can make a decent guess on when the system was ok (which I couldn't), i.e that you can decide a good date to restore to.

  • Can't upload latest version of iTunes on Vista.

Can't upload latest version of iTunes on Vista.  After I click "Download" on Apple's page, it doesn't appear on my PC to do the update.

Well, you can't upload because you don't upload iTunes.  Now that this has been clarified, what do you mean it synced to a previous version?
Syncing does not cause media to disappear off the device unless you are syncing to a new computer/library that the device has never synced to before.

  • Why can't I download latest version of iTunes in Windows 8 on my Asus laptop?

  • Can someone help me with installing the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium?

Latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium downloads just fine.  But, fails to install.
"Unblocked and gave all permissions."  Still, no go.
I see by reading the other posts on this forum that I am not alone.  Any help?
    Frustrated!

Ok...This was very odd.  I left the installation program, in what I considered a frozen state on screen.  After about 30 mins, to my surprise, It installed!  I'm not computer literate, so, I don't know what to say.  But, to just WAIT for it to respond!  Good Luck!

  • I just downloaded the latest version of itunes for Windows and now itunes crashes every time i launch it

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows and now iTunes crashes everytime I launch it.  I have tried re-downloading and selecting Repair with no luck.  Any suggestions?
    thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • HT1925 I cannot install the latest version of Itunes under Windows XP because itunes.msi cannot be found in order to remove the older version (11.0.1.12) of itunes

I cannot install the latest version of Itunes under Windows XP because itunes.msi cannot be found in order to remove the older version (11.0.1.12) of itunes.  Is there any other way I can accomplish an upgrade without using the Itunes.msi file?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I am unable to install the latest version of iTunes on window xp?

I am unable to install the latest version of iTunes on window xp. I get "The application has failede to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".

This may be all we know, but the new discussions keep coming in, so I repaet my post of this evening:
With all the discussion about problems with iTunes 11 for Windows, there is also now the problem of downloading the 11 install file at all. On 2 diff computers today, I have tried to download installer and it gets to "save file" then when clicked simply disappears. Nice magic trick, but not helpful to a long-time (and mostly happy til now) user of iTunes on Windows. If there are such serious problems with the installation and function of this "new" version, what the hex is Apple doing? A new corrected release? When? why all this mess wirth a program that has always worked? How about some answers Apple?

  • Latest version of iTunes for Windows crashing

I've updated to latest version of iTunes for Windows today, and have up to date Windows 7. iTunes is closing down after about a minute, Windows just says iTunes has a problem. Never had a problem before. Is this a known error?

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Updated latest version of itunes onto windows xp.Can't open it.The Data Execution Prevention window comes up.I have followed all the directions of changing the settings.I have updated Quicktime.Still can't open it.

I updated the latest version of itunes onto my pc (windows xp) and all of a sudden I can't open it up.  Everytime I try to open it I get a window that says: "Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows...To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.  Change settings."  I have tried to change the settings.  Uninstalled & reinstalled itunes.  Updated the lates version of quicktime.  Nothing has helped.  If there is anyone who has a suggestion I would appreciate it.  I am at my wits end with this.  Thank you in advance for all your suggestions.

If anyone is looking at this and would like to know what I did to finally get it to work, I did the following:  I right click on the itunes icon on my desktop.......clicked on "run as"........made sure that it ran as administrator.   This finally worked for me.  Hope you all find this info helpful.

  • Still can't download latest version of iTunes...

I have not been able to download the latest version of iTunes onto my PC. I kept getting the same error code (-3) when it hit the part where it was supposed to install QuickTime.
I had the same problem attempting to install iTunes 6.0.3. My computer would not install the latest version of QuickTime (7.0.3????) so I'm stuck with this older version of iTunes, which of course will not let me purchase music.
What gives??? Is there a solution to this? I can't be the only person with this problem.
BTW, I have Windows XP on my computer.
    Thanks!
    T

I just read your post and I am having what sounds like the exact same problem. I tried to remove quicktime from windows and I cant get it out, my windows installer wont work JUST for itunes & quicktime. I can access the music store, but I can't search for ANYTHING.. this is very annoying, have you had any luck yet?
