Can't open library after upgrade to iPhoto '11

I have seen a few people have the same/similar problem but their solutions haven't helped me.
Bought new macbook pro two weeks ago. iPhoto didn't work when I had imported my old info onto my computer, but then after three wipes of the computer and a reinstall as the primary user I got it working. I downloaded aperture last night which meant I had to upgrade to iPhoto 11 (which may have been the problem in the first place- I don't know if I downlaoded it the first few times). This has again meant I cannot open iPhoto at all and it crashes before the window even comes up.
This is what it says:

I've tried reinstalling it a couple of times, as well as downloading 9.1 etc. etc. but nothing so far has worked. Any solutions?

Hi Terence,
followed some of theat iphone threads since I got the same problem. I tried everything you explained. Tried it under a different user (worked), deinstalled and reinstalled the application (didn´t work). I cleaned any related iphone file before I reinstalled ... nada! I also repaired the users rights on the application disk ... nothing helped.
So one final attempt to get help. Not even Apple Support could tell me what is wrong. Here is the last crash report:

  • Can't open my photo library after upgrading to iPhoto 11.  is it possible to load iPhoto 9.0.1 after loading 11?  have followed all other instructions but it still won't let me open iPhoto.

can't open my photo library after upgrading to iphoto 11.  Is it possible to download iphoto 9.0.1 after installing '11.  Have followed all the other instructions and am in a loop which doesn't allow me to access iphoto or my photos.

when iphoto wouldnt open we read the trouble shooting info and it said that we may have needed to download 9.0.1 if we had an older version.  We obviously didn't download it before the upgrade and wondered if it would cause problems or indeed solve the problem if we downloaded it now!
When we try to open iphoto is says:
To open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared
To prepare the library use the iphoto library upgrader available from Apple.
We have downloaded this twice now and it still sends us this message when we try to open iphoto.

Can´t open LR after upgrade to 5.3 without entering a licens key

I have seen comments from someone who indicated that every time they started Lightroom they were prompted for the serial number, even though they had already entered it. Is this your situation? I can't remember what the solution is, but I have seen that problem mentioned in the past.

Has Spotlight finished its indexing?  Check in the upper right.  If you get just the search field, it has, if it says its indexing, you have to wait before you can use anything.

  • IPhoto wont open library after upgrade

I just updated to iLife 11 and iPhoto will not open. I get the following message:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
This library must be upgraded by the iPhoto Library Upgrader application before you can use it with iPhoto. Please reinstall iPhoto from your iLife disc.
Where do I get the iPhoto Library Upgrader application from?

    James:
Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Hopefully one of these will work and you won't have to resort to Fix #4, starting over with a new library and importing the original files from the current library.

  • IPhoto library contains lots of gb but will not open pictures after upgrade to iPhoto ´11

Upgraded from iPhoto ´08 to iPhoto ´11 (9.5.1) and to OS Maverick (10.9.1).
In "Finder" the library still seem to contain lots of gigabytes of data, but when iPhoto open the library it reads 0 photos. I have tried rebuilt (option+cmd key when opening iPhoto), iPhoto library manager, I have purchased aperture which acts just like iPhoto. Quite a few pictures missing, starting to become desperate - anyone with other ideas? Any help appreciated!
    Thomas

    Give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

    Hi
After upgrading from iMovie 9 to iMovie 11, i have a project that i can't open any more. When i choose it in the project library the preview window freezes and the "edit project" button fades out so that I can't open it.

Hi I have the same problem. Did you manage to find a solution?
    Thanks

  • Can't open Finder after Upgrade to Yosemite 10.10

After the Upgrade to Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display i can't open the Finder and it says it's not reacting. The bar on top when i'm at the Desktop is also gone.
    Can somebody help me ?

I had this exact same issue, and I was just able to fix it (at least for now).  I'm not an expert by any means, so I can't tell you why my solution worked, but if you follow it and it helps, then great.
First, you'll have to restart your computer and open in Safe Mode.  Restart the computer and as soon as you hear the startup noise, press and hold the Shift key.  Release it when you see the Apple icon.  It will take a little longer to start up.
Then download and install the free software called OnyX.
Once installed, open OnyX and click on the Verifying tab, then click on the Preferences tab. Run the Check button at the bottom.  If it tells you that you have any damaged files, double click them on the list, one at a time, and then delete those files.
Then I clicked the Scripts tab, and Executed all three scripts.
Finally, under the Cleaning tab, I clicked on System and executed everything except "CUPS jobs".
I then restarted my computer like it suggested (without opening Safe Mode) and everything was back to normal!
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't open iWeb after upgrading to iLife 11 (Domain.sites2.)

I just upgraded my iLife package from 09' to 11' just a few days ago. Since then I haven't been able to open up iWeb (09'). I realize that the iLife 11 upgrade shouldn't have harmed iWeb 09', but it's the only change/add that I have done to my machine in the past week. Every time I try to launch iWeb either from the dock or from the domain file itself, I receive the following iWeb error:
    Can't open file "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/iWeb/Domain.sites2."
    Has anyone seen this problem?

Did you move the Domain.sites2 file to that location? ...It can be moved, but most peopIe leave it where it usually resides and would see an error msg saying:
    "Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”
You could try moving your Domain file to the above location and double-click it there. And remember to always backup all your Domain files before messing with them.
By the way, rather than posting a P.S. in your Public Profile:

  • Xclock Error: Can't open display: - after upgrading to openSSH 5.2p1

I have got two servers apssvrX and apssvrZ on OEL. Both were built by the same team using their standard build scripts.
Having received the servers I had installed Oracle (ODI) product on it successfully.
Then as a part of requirement and as per Oracle support's advise, I had upgraded the ssh version on apssvrX server from OpenSSH_4.3p2 To OpenSSH_5.2p1, so that, I can implement the chroot jailing.
As per Oracle advise, I had downloaded the 3 RPMs from "_http://layer1.rack911.com/openssh/rhel5/x86_64/" to run them on my first server i.e., apssvrX and then configured the sshd services following the below steps:
    a) Modify /etc/ssh/sshd_config to comment the below line:
    #Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server
    b) Add below lines:
    Subsystem sftp internal-sftp
    Match Group sftponly
    ChrootDirectory %h
    X11Forwarding no
    AllowTcpForwarding no
    ForceCommand internal-sftp
Then lastly, Restart sshd services complete the configuration
    # /etc/init.d/sshd restart
apssvrX server current details are as below:
    apssvrX$ uname -a
    Linux apssvrX 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 21 08:45:05 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    apssvrX$ ssh -V
    OpenSSH_5.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008
My problems started from this point onwards. I want to install another Oracle product using OUI, but when I try to execute xclock using the Exceed HummingBird tool on apssvrX server then it fails with the error - (xclock) Error: Can't open display:
I tried the DISPLAY variable setup as well but to no use.
Whereas I can successfully execute the xclock on apssvrZ and OUI as well. Its config details are as below:
    apssvrZ$ uname -a

    apssvrZ$ ssh -V
    OpenSSH_4.3p2, OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008
    Please advise the way forward.

    Tried but still same error.
Affected servers's sshd_config is as below:

  • Deleting extraneous second library after upgrading to iPhoto 6

    Hi.
I recently upgraded to iPhoto 6 from iPhoto 2*. When using iPhoto 2 I had to create two separate libraries for my photos because of issues with extreme slowness and crashing, but I've successfully been able to place all of my photos in one library with iPhoto 6. What I'm wondering is if there will be any problems if I trash the now unnecessary second library (I recopied the photos to iPhoto 6 from an external hard drive, so the second library is still full and wasting memory).
I realize this is probably a really stupid question, but for some reason I'm nervous about ditching it (probably the result of reading so many tales of woe on this board from people who messed with their library folders too much).
TIA for taking the time to educate me. : )
    * and what a wonderful difference (so far)!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Fairchild
If you're sure that all the photos are in the big library... then there's no problem. But here's a test - move the unwanted Library Folder to the desktop. Now launch the one you want and see does all work well. If it does then trash away!
    Regards

  • Can't access photos after upgrade to iPhoto 11

I upgraded OSX to 10.8.2 and iPhoto from 9 to 11. Using Library Manager, I opened the first "old" iPhoto library and followed the screen instructions to upgrade it for iPhoto 11. A message came up stating that there were some errors in the library, so I chose to repair it. After the repair, that library opened perfectly, but when I try to open other libraries to upgrade them, only the first one that was upgraded opens. It's seems like all of my libraries have become the first one. Is there still a way to access the other libraries?
    Rick

but when I try to open other libraries to upgrade them, only the first one that was upgraded opens.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • Rebuilding corrupted library after upgrade to iPhoto 6.0.5

I upgraded today to iPhoto 6.0.5 and experienced the problem that many people here have discussed -- missing photos, greyed out thumbnails and images, and so on. Just a small number of recent photos show up, out of about 15000. All the photos seem to be present in the iPhoto Library directory, so presumably (as I've discovered from reading the discussion here) the problem is corruption to Library6.iPhoto.
[*More detail, in case it's relevant: I first attempted to upgrade to a previous version of iPhoto 6 earlier this year. When I did this, it asked me something about updating the library, which I agreed to, and toward the end of this process iPhoto crashed. The same thing happened on repeated tries. So I haven't used iPhoto on this machine since then (I've used the version on my Powerbook instead, without problems), until today when I ran the update to iPhoto 6.0.5, which didn't crash but produced this new behavior.]
I have backups from last night. There is no Library6.iPhoto file in the backup IPhoto Library directory, but there is a Library.iPhoto directory (from March). Is there some way to use this to restore my library as it was? (When I try running iPhoto on a copy of the backup directory, the same thing happens as before.)
If not, what is my best option? Presumably I can reimport the files from the old library to a new library wholesale, but it would be good to find a method to preserve album structure, ratings, etc, if such a method is available.
Also, what is the best method to import the iPhoto Library from my laptop with its structure intact?
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just to clarify. The file nor the tags are corupt I successfully added it to iTunes in april when I created it. It is the the exact same file I used and it worked in april. The file is an entire movie 2hrs and 19 minutes long with a bitrate of 768 for video and 128 for audio. it is 727,914,578 bytes long. I have also tried other large mp4 files created since then and they do not work. With a little more testing it appears that small mp4's work fine.
I wonder if it is a new size limit or a bug?

  • Can't open file after upgrade to 10.8.1

I use Indesign CS5(Trad. Chinese version). When i upgrade to 10.8 is no problem, but when i upgrade to 10.8.1 last week, i can open any previous ID document! Even i create a new document , i close it , & also cant open!! Its shows a dialog box means the file crash before, selection is fix ,cancel or reopen, but any select also can fix & cant open !!!
Finally i downgrade to 10.8 from my Time Machine, everything gonna OK again!!!
Will Adobe fix this problem? or i cant upgrade to 10.8.2...10.8.3....etc any more!!

Why don’t you ask Apple? It was their update that broke it.
And I would not count on any updates to CS5. It’s two version out of date.
FWIW, that 10.8.1 update helped a lot of people having problems with CS6.

  • Can't open iTunes after upgrading

I just upgraded to the newest version of iTunes and now I am getting the following message "The "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
I have tried dragging an older version of my library into the Itunes folder but still keep getting the same message. Now I cannot do anything with iTunes and this is extremely frustrating. Any ideas or suggestions on how to correct this?
    Thanks in advance
    Roya

    Had the same problem.
    If you have a Mac:
Hold down "alt" and click on your iTunes icon
    Click "Choose Library"
    Select "Previous Library" folder
Select your most recently dated library
    iTunes should now open normally
    If you have a PC:
Change the extension of your library file from ".itl" to ".old" and restart iTunes
