  • Can I open Lightroom without upgrading my catalog?

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do a screen capture, so I'll try to type what I'm seeing.
When I click on the LIghtroom icon, I get a message box that says "Please upgrade the catalog file "Lightroom Catalog 3" for use with Lightroom 3.  It continues "Lightroom will create a new catalog file in the destination indicated below.  The previews will also be moved to the location and converted for use in Lightroom 3"  Upgrade destination C:/Documents and Settings/...../Lightroom 3 Catalog-7.lrcat
There is a button to choose a different catalog, upgrade or exit.
When I open the button to change catalogs, it gives me one option, but when I click on it, I go back to the "Lightroom will create a new catalog"
My concern with upgrading is that I've a workflow for the catalog that's at C:/Documents and Settings/..../Lightroom 3 Catalog-5.lrcat  Earlier today, I clicked on the dialog that resulted in a catalog at Lightroom Catalog-6.lrcat, but when I opened it, I'd lost all the listings for the Free Agent drive (usually G:/ where I do my daily uploads.  I could still see the external hard drive (E:) where I save edited work, but it indicated that I would have to locate all of the folders I'd created on the E: drive.  I saw only the default collections on the left hand side -- (smart collections, last month, etc.).
I finally was able to get back to Lightroom 3 Catalog-5, which had all the work, but I'm not sure how to recover all my collections and folders if I Lightroom creates a new catalog at a destination that has a different number.  The problem is that now I can't seem to open Lightroom 3 at all -- when I click on Change, I don't see my catalog 5  in the default folder.  I know I found it once before, and it became an option on the pulldown menu.  But I don't want to have to keep finding it on the drive where I store it so I can keep my indexing and folder and catalog organization.
Lightroom 3 Catalog 5.lrcat works fine for me.  My default for backing up is whenever I close the program, so I'm confident in it's integrity.  How can I open Lightroom with the catalog that works for me --without getting messages that seem to force me to do an upgrade I don't want to do.
    Thanks for your help!

I've been using Lightroom 3 for about a year.    Right now I'm going
back to the folder with my backups and opening Lightroom 3 Catalog-5.  I
think I've tried to reconstruct my left side panel with earlier
Lightroom 3 Catalog x versions.  I don't have all the collections and
folders I had with my Lightroom 2 catalog.    That catalog seemed to
have been corrupt when I moved to Lightroom 3.  I don't recall how I did
it, but I guess I imported the photos and tried to start over with my
    collections.

  • I can't open Lightroom 5 in Windows 7 notes Catalog Error

I can't open Lightroom 5 in Windows 7. I keep getting a window titled "Confirm" and it notes an "Unexpected error opening catalog" and "The catalog could not be opened due to an unextected error".
    3 choices come up:
Try Again          Choose A Different Cataog          Exit
I pick Try Again and it keeps cycling back
I pick choose a different Catalog and I get another window with my last Catalog and nothing else. I get 4 options:
Choose A Different Catalog          Create A New Catalog          Open          Quit
The last catalog is the only one that is in this Window and is thus the only one selected. I try to Open it and it cycles again. I try to choose a different one and I can select older Catalogs but nothing happens. I try to create a new Catalog and I can do so but when I create one it's as though it was never created as I can't find it anywhere. Please help!

I see that this was a while ago, and that you never received a reply....but did you figure out a solution? I'm experiencing the same thing.

  • I can't open Lightroom files in Photoshop CC 2014.  When I Right Click and select Edit In Photoshop CC 2014 nothing happens.  I have uninstalled CC 2014 and Lightroom but no change.

I can't open Lightroom (5.7.1) files in Photoshop CC 2014.  When I Right Click and select Edit In Photoshop CC 2014 nothing happens.  I have uninstalled CC 2014 and Lightroom but no change.

What happens if you start up PS CC 2014, first, and then try the Edit In?
Here are a few things to try related to a similar, but not exactly the same problem:

  • Often can't open Lightroom 3 after going from Leopard to Snow Leopard with out rebooting system...

Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard a month ago or more it seems I can't open Lightroom when I'm ready to run the program without having to restart my computer. This is happening on both my macbook and my new mac mini. I keep my Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive so I can access it from either computer and have an alias stored on both computers that used to open my program when my external was plugged in and ready. I've also noticed since upgrading I'm unable to upload photos from my memory card reader without a lot of fussing around - often needing to reboot to get the import to happen in Lightroom, or just uploading my photos to my desktop without having Lightroom open, then once they're finished uploading I can import and move them into my Lightroom 3 program/catalog/photo storage. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Or what I might need to do to fix these problems?

    I think I would look at if you have the latest Parallels;
    clone and backup your system and files before doing anything;
boot off 2nd hard drive and run Apple First Aid + (Disk Warrior or DG3 or TechTool Pro 5).
Always be prepared to be able to restore your system to prior point, that could even mean keeping 10.6.4 around for a month until you know 10.6.5 and 3rd party software and drivers all play nice together.
Bottom line: invest in two backup sets and methods; a copy of SuperDuper or CCC; and Disk Warrior.
I've used VBox, Fusion but not Parallels, plus Windows XP Mode, VHDs and VMs under Windows Vista/7.
I'd go back to ERASE and INSTALL and then do all your updates, then start on 3rd party with main packages first (CS5 and others). Off load, save, backup everything and anything you might need first of course.
Last but actually #1: a small 30GB OS X 10.6.5 drive volume (can take the 30GB from one of your backup drive is fine) so you can run the latest DU plus other system maintenance (DVDs get old, out of date, slow to boot, can't use Finder and other programs).

  • Can't open Lightroom.  Getting Error message:  Trying to open Lightroom.  Get ERROR message

I can't open my Lightroom.  I keep on getting the message:
Trying to open Lightroom.  Get ERROR message:
Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.
Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches.
    This has happened before.
I also can't get my Plug-ins (like Topaz and onOne) to work within Photoshop CC and Lightroom.
Not the first time this has happened.
    Any suggestions?

I apologize. I should've told you to delete the folder with the same name as your catalog. So you want to delete the folder named Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata.

  • Still can't open Lightroom 3

I posted the following a couple of weeks ago but didn't get the problem solved.  Hopefully someone else will see this now who knows how to fix my problem.  Thanks!
After using LR3 for 5 or 6 weeks with no problem I now get the following error:
'Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working' A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.  I can't get past this error and can't open LR.  Tried uninstalling and re-installing and same error happens.  Any suggestions?

I finally solved this on my own! Not sure exactly what did it.  First,I downloaded and installed LR 3.5 upgrade.  Then, before LR would close it would try to open a certain .TIFF file.  I drug the file from my pictures to my desktop.  Now LR works perfectly.

It is in danish but what it says is: "Before you continue, you have to start adobe acrobat and accept the end user agreement". But I don't have Adobe Acrobat on my computer!! And I don't want it...

  • Can not open PSE 11 trial which I downloaded yesterday.

Yesterday I downloaded Adobe PSE 11 as a trial.  I can not open PSE 11.  I also can not access the organizer.  The set up asssistant keeps downloading instead.
Also, I read that PSE 11 will not automatically allow me to access my photos in LR 4.  How do I work around this?

We need at least some system info and a better description of what is happening. Yes, LR and PSE use different catalog formats. You need to index your collections redundantly in both programs.

  • HELP, I can't open Lightroom 5, all I get is a screen that asks me to select a catalog, but it wont even let me create a catalog without picking ONE picture at a time.......I'm lost

I'm ready to scream, I NEED to actually SPEAK TO A HUMAN, not type over and over what is wrong, and none of the support pages get me to a helpful point.

Sorry, this is a Lightroom user-to-user forum and LR users are devoid of all human characteristics. Nevertheless, maybe we can help. If LR is presenting you with a list of catalogs and asking you to pick one, you must have created several in the past. (Yoi would be better off with just one, but we'll leave that aside for the moment.) Pick one and open it. Now, either use the Import button at the bottom left corner or use the File menu entry "Import Photos and Videos". When the Import page opens select in the left side panel the location of the photos to be imported - a folder in your computer or a card reader or an attached camera. In the central area check all the photos to be imported and at the top tell LR if you want them left where they are now ("Add") or copied to another location. If the latter, in the right side panel select the destination and name of the sub-folder. Click Import and you're finished

  • Can not open Lightroom 5 image in Photoshop Elements 12

I just purchased PSE 12. In Lightroom 5, I can set up an Edit in Photoshop Elements preset.
When I try to edit a .dng or .cr2 raw image in PSE from Lr5, the first dialog I get asks if I want to edit a copy with Lr adjustments. Then PSE opens but no file(s) are loaded.
If I open the file directly from PSE 12, it will open (with Lr5 adjustments)... but that's not the point.
Any ideas on getting the Lightroom 5 --> PSE 12 workflow to operate properly?

I don't want to seem flippant, but that's exactly what I did - Actually I set up 2 presets here (one for Adobe RGB & one for sRGB).
As I stated previously, I set these up on 2 different computers (a MacPro and a MacBook Pro), each computer running a different version of OS-X (Lion & Mavericks, respectively).
I have successfully set up several external editors using various stand-alone programs - they all still work -- with the exception of Photoshop Elements 12.
