Can't open lots of types of Quicktime files.

i'm running leopard 10.6.3 and quicktime 10.0 & 7.6.6. I'm getting really sick of not being able to open quicktimes, lots of different types. Sometimes stuff in the lossless codec, loads of problems with pro res footage and countless others including h264. i'm at the point where i abandon the quicktime player all together and find an alternative because it's unworkable in the current state on my system. i hope your listening apple, my experience of the quicktime implementation on snow leopard really *****.
i have one clip in particular i need to open, Apple Pro Res 422 HQ with 48Khz audio, rendered straight from after effects.
if i try and open in quicktime 7 i get a crash (below is an excerpt from my crash log). If i try and open it in quicktime X it just hangs, i just get a window that says Loading Movie, but it never actually loads.
I've had this behaviour over 100 times over the last week. Can anyone suggest anything to try to fix? Have tried disk permissions, installing flip4mac, vlc and perian. but nothing helps so far.

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.

Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.

I came across this problem after upgrading to Mavericks. Here's what I did to solve the problem:
Issue: I began working on an existing spreadsheet. After I saved it and tried to pull it up again later, I got the message "index.xml file is missing...".
Go to your dock and delete the icon for Numbers (mine still referred to the previous version of Numbers).
Go to Applications and drag the Numbers icon to the dock. This icon now links to the new version of Numbers and (hopefully) your spreadsheet should work.

Yes I did software updates which updated fcp to 6.0.6 and QT to version 7.7. That's as far as updates have taken me although i have requested daily updates. I forgot to say the clips don't play in QT view either. Again sound but no pictures when they are played.

Bug: Logic 8 Can't open ANY of my pre L7 files

I know this has been discussed before. For some people, opening pre-L7 files in Logic8 works fine. For others, it's a problem.
But today I realized just how wide spread this situation is. Logic 8 will not open ANY of my pre L7 songs. NOT ONE.
That's literally hundreds of songs and projects on my hard drive that I will have to load into L7 one at a time to 'translate' so that L8 can read them. I call this a BUG because it's directly the opposite of what the manual claims Logic 8 can do:
"Opening Pre Version 8 Songs
You can open Logic Pro 5, Logic Pro 6, and Logic Pro 7 songs in Logic Pro 8. When
loading a song or project created in a pre-version 8 Logic variant, the format will be converted to the version 8 format. A Save As dialog will open, allowing you to save the project with a new name. The original version song will be retained."
I'm only posting this in the hopes that all of you experiencing problems with older projects will please LEAVE FEEDBACK on this topic with Apple. I don't want to lose access to years worth of archived work, and there's no good reason why L8 should lose the file import ability it had in L7. I do have L7 on an older machine, so I can laboriously translate the files 1 at a time if I have to. But keeping L7 and L8 installed on the same machine is problematic. And it's crazy to have to do this at all, since it's a basic functionality L8 should have if Apple would only get around to fixing it.
So please let Apple know if this matters to you. (Unless it doesn't and I'm the only one affected... just my luck).
The weird thing is that the "Can't Open" dialog that comes up on my system specifies that the files can only be opened by "Logic 7.2.1 or earlier". Wonder what was so special about 7.2.1???

Yup, and yup. I can run Logic 7 on my mac fine. And Logic 7 can import and play all my L5, 6, and of course 7 projects without a problem.
But Logic 8 CAN'T.
That's the problem. We're talking about literally hundreds of projects, and NOT ONE of them loads properly in Logic 8. Not a single one.
Clearly something in my default template makes Logic 8 unhappy. Don't know if it's the number of busses I use (16) or the effects routing or... who knows? What I do know is that a) Logic 8 should be able to open legacy files if it is to deserve the name "Pro", and b) I definitely do not have the time to open several hundred files one at a time in L7 and resave them.
And, even if I did resave all my version 5 and 6 projects in L7, the reality is they would still load improperly in L8 because of the revised bus/aux routing. When I open any of my L7 projects (which always ran just fine in L7), Logic 8's environment page gets completely messed up. The scroll bars stop working, making it impossible to see the channel you're working on.
Yes, I've emailed Apple's black-hole-o-customer-support. The silence has been deafening in response. If I weren't so lazy and cheap I'd be on Pro Tools I guess... But I know Logic like the back of my hand and I have work to do. Problem is, I'm starting to hate Logic like the back of someone else's hand which keeps slapping me in the face.

It's probably an activation issue. FAQ: Why are some codecs and sequence presets missing from my installation of Premiere Pro?
Try this: Choose Help > Sign Out, Restart Premiere Pro, choose Help > Sign In
