Can't open mail for my hotmail accts

no real problems loging into hotmail
but when i am inbox mail will not open so i can read it,
cannot compose a email.
oh i am useing ubuntu 12.04 LTS
i have notice this on other installs of ubuntu products so not sure if this is there problem or a firefox problem.
Debian "Whezzy" ice Weaseal works great in my hotmail accts

Thanks for posting back. You wrote,
i am going to stick with just useing debian so there is no firefox its called ( ice weasel) an i find it works very well again thank you for all your time i hope this is not a big bug or problem i think it something in the "ppc version" an hotmail etc accts
I found a recent question here describing a similar issue (but no solution), http://askubuntu.com/questions/407582/web-based-hotmail-acct ''hotmail acct accts log in fine but am unable to open mail, compose mail, etc yahoo mail, gmail work fine Useing Firefox 25.0.1 Ubuntu 12.4 LTS ppc'',
In case it helps you or anyone else, I also found this older thread on a debian forum that mentions hotmail problems on a Mac Powerbook G4 PPC suggesting the "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ User Agent Switcher]" Firefox addon: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=63740 ''Hotmail seems to recognize PPC systems as embedded- not all are- and categorizes them with mobile devices.'' <br>
... I also found this thread which also indicates a possible "user agent" issue, http://hackaday.com/2011/07/24/hacking-14-year-old-power-pc-mac-back-to-life/ ''... the PowerPC architecture comes up as PPC, which Hotmail interpreted as PocketPC which caused Hotmail to present a severely reduced login page''
Bottom line, if you want to try Hotmail on Firefox again, your best bet might be the [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/hotmail/hotmail-help Hotmail forum] which is now http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=260870
In any case, I'll mark your last post as resolving the issue, for now. If you still need help with Firefox, please post back.

  • Can Not Open Mail CNOM

-The application Mail quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
The above error message appears after I attempt to open the Mail application. Recently the Mail icon was a question mark, however it was found but still clicking on it I can not open Mail. After attempting to click Relaunch twice in a row, during a third time the follow error message appears:
-Do you want to resent application settings for Mail? The application quit unexpectedly after itwas relaunched. Resetting the application settings may fix the problem. You will be givethe opportunity to restore your original settings when you quit the applications.
When I click Reset and Relaunch I am brought back the error mentioned I previously encountered first, ergo the whole problem beings again, and the same thing happens again when I click Relaunch.
When I click Ignore or Do Not Relaunch the application quits, of course. When I click Report the application sends a 'report' page.
Somebody please help me get my mail working again. Thank you.

    Really? Nobody has any idea?

  • On 10.4.11 Mac Mail I get this: Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unnedded documents or move documents to another volume. I can't open mail.

On 10.4.11 iMac Mac Mail I get this message: "Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume." I can't open mail to do this. I have reinstalled software but no effect. How do I get into Mail to delete?

Found this on the "more like this" Worked like a charm!
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Move the Envelope Index file to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import mailboxes. Select OK and allow the import process to complete.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully imported and available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old Envelope Index file from the Desktop and this should resolve the problem.

Thank you for the very clear basic instructions—helpful for a newbie.…Also my first screen shot !! I see that it does not have .App next to it
Most likely because you have Finder's preferences->Advanced->Show all filename extensions unchecked. Check it, log out, and back in and all the apps should display the .app extension.
Now, back to your problem. If you installed the Security Update 2012-004, it failed to update Mail to 4.6; thus, your problem. Manually DL it from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586 and reinstall it.

  • Hi Iv'e downloaded mountain lion but now can't open mail?

Hi Iv'e downloaded mountain lion but now can't open mail?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Can't open mail or safari after update

I updated my software when the notice came up and after shutting down and restarting, I can't open mail or safari or itunes. The icons bounce as if starting and then nothing. Can anyone help me with this? I know very little about computers. I am writing this on a PC. (Yikes)

Hi cantfindwan, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Just updated to Yosemite and now can't open mail, or finder or others.  That wheel, just goes round and round

i just updated to Yosemite and now can't open mail or finder or other apps.   Wheel just goes round and round

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • Vi error on nfs mount; E212: Can't open file for writing

    Hi all,
I've setup a umask of 0 for testing on both NFS client (Centos 5.2) and NFS server (OSX 10.5.5 server).
I can create files as one user and edit/save out as another user w/o issue when directly logged into the server via ARD.
    However, when I attempt the same from an NFS mount on a client machine, even as root I get the following error using vi;
"file" E212: Can't open file for writing
    Looking at the system.log file on the server, I see;
    kernel[0]: add_fsevent: no name hard-link! dropping the event. (event 2 vp == 0xa5db510 (-UNKNOWN-FILE)).
This baffles me. My umask is 0 meaning files I create and attempt to edit as other users are 777, but I cannot save out edits unless I do a wq! in vi. At that point, the owner of the file changes to whomever did the vi.
This isn't just a vi issue as it happens using any editor, but I like to use vi.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Hey, beer is on me!

    Hi all,
    Thanks for the replies
I've narrowed it down to a Centos client issue.
Everything works fine using other Linux based OS's as clients.
Since we have such a huge investment in Centos, I must figure out a workaround. Apple support wasn't much help as usual however they were very nice.
There usual response is "its unsupported".
If Apple really wants to play in the enterprise of business space, they really need to change there philosophy. I mean telling me that I shouldn't mount home directories via NFS is completely rediculus.
What am I supposed to use then, Samba of AFP? No, I don't think so. No offense to Microsoft but why would I use a Windows based file sharing protocol to mount network shares in a Nix env???

    Hi,
I check this issue in my environment, but cannot repro this issue.
Please check the following path to click the right cpl file:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\MLCFG32.CPL
If that works, you need check this registry path to see if it points a right path to the .cpl file:

  • You can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

I updated my Mac to Mavericks and after that, I can't open the Mail, Contacts and Calendar preferences.
Every time I try, I get the following message:
"You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I tried this workaround from the Mountain Lion thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21303574#21303574) but it didn't worked.
Further I deleted all files in the Library Preferences folder, but it didn't helped also.
    Can anyone help me please?

    Hi Michael,
I had the same problem. And I found a fix.
I noticed that on a different system running Mavericks without any problems, the preference pane isn't called 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' anymore, it's now called 'Internet accounts'. The fact that it's still called by the old name on your system, means it somehow wasn't replaced while updating to Mavericks.
So the cure is pretty easy:
On a different Mavericks system, go to /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ and copy the file InternetAccounts.prefPane. Take it to the system you're trying to fix, and paste the prefPane file in the same directory. Reboot, and it should all work fine. At least it did in my case.
    Cheers
    Niels
