Can't open Maps programme on N95 8GB!

Hi all!
Was using Maps absolutley fine for a quick trip, went to use it for the trip back and after trying to open Maps it shows the "World" pic and the loading bar then disappears! I end up with my standby screen. I can't get in to it at all!
Help please!

if you go to file manager, and into CITIES folder, and check out if you have any maps in there. I had some before, but somehow they disappeared.
so, i downloaded the new Nokia NSeries PC suite, and the map loader program, once that's done, select the delete maps on phone, just to make sure, then choose maps to download and then, mine worked.
not sure how they disappeared in the first place, but they're back , and that's why my maps program would just go back to standby screen, cos there was no maps in there anymore.

They all said, it is support but I cannot see any WinLive folder in Nokia download application. I wrote another thread about this, but no one has written in that thread so i ask here two.
I have a 3 branded phone (Sweden).
And due to the weak features that 3 have in thier own version of this i downloaded and installed "Windows Messenger Live for nokia S60" version 1.0.6141 .
(if i got the wrong version please let me know)
During installation i synch/find my contacts for the account, so everything is installed fine (Windowslive.sis & dep.sisx).
Every time i try to login since i installed the program i get this message "messenger is not available at the moment, please try later".
If i read the FAQ here @ nokia pages it say's that the service is available here in Sweden.
But i have no idea how to get it to login.
Anyone who can help ??

Can I open maps using an address in a calendar event

I created an event in my calendar and added the address, we then wanted to check where the location was and how long it would take to get there. I assumed that I could just tap the address and maps would open to show the location. Instead I had to copy the address from the event, open maps and then paste it!!!
This can't be right, surely I am doing something wrong here. There must be a simpler way of doing this why can't I just tap the address to go to the location.
So then I think maybe I can open maps and I can find a location based on an event in my calendar, but no there seems to be no way of doing it.
Why is there no integration between calendar events (appointments In my diary which may require me to go somewhere) and maps.
Please someone prove me wrong. Is this not an obvious requirement !!!!!

you can use Runtime.exec() to execute something, if it's a signed applet. But I'm not sure it'll stay open after the applet were closed...

Pls help - can't find contacts easily on N95 8GB

Hi there. Just got my new N95 8GB -2 & when i add a new contact i can find it by scrolling all the way down but not by one letter. eg I have entered a contact just as M but when i go contacts> M , i get a list of everything with M starting at A!! eg Alan M,Bob m & so on -How do i set up to get it (1st letter) as 1st choice as with all my other phones? Have tried First name or surname but makes no difference......... Can anyone help?

Not giving excuses for Nokia.
But the way the search function seems to work is that when you type M it brings up all the contacts that contain M in it, in alphabetical order.
But if you have many many names then as you type it starts filtering them.
This is how Video Center and Music Player works as well. So it's a bit of backwards logic you think but really I think there's a reason.
Say you have many contacts saved. Now you know that this person first or last name starts with ME, but you don't know if it's the last or first name or that ME may be part of the name but not at the beginning then as you type ME it will bring all the contacts that have ME either at the beginning the middle or wherever.
So there's some logic to it but maybe not a lot...

Best would be to use Windows System Restore functions - this way you will be able to restore your systems to their previous conditions. It is present in every Windows system since XP / 2001.
Please, run this option and restore back to a restore point some hours/days before the problem started.

I can't open Maps, iBooks, or the App Store on my Mac

I just installed OS X 10.9 Mavericks on my Mac (specs below). The install went fairly smoothly with no hiccups. After installing, I ran CleanMyMac, which cleared my cache, language files, etc. I've run this program millions of times before with no problems.
I've now discovered that I cannot open Maps, iBooks, or the App Store on my Mac. I can open and run iTunes, but when prompted by iTunes to update to the latest version, I click 'OK' and see no response (i.e., the App Store does not open).
Can anyone provide any guidance?

Mid-2009 MBP 13.3
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
750GB 7200RPM HDD

Yesterday was the first time I use the CleanMyMac and thanks it damaged my OS.
My solution was Reinstalling OS X
How?
Restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Note: be sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
I did it today, it's finally working without any loss!

Can't send text message from N95 8GB

I suddenly cannot send anymore text message from my N95 8GB.
"Message cannot be sent" - "Verify network settings" - that's what I get.
Can anyone help? thx.

Do you have enough credit/balance to send texts?
Have you checked the Message Centre number? Contact your service provider to obtain the number, and then update it in Messaging -> Options -> Settings -> Text message -> Message Centres.
Did you try a SIM from another Service provider? If the new one works, contact your service provider for help.
You can try these steps one by one, if the steps above do not help:
1. Turn off your phone, leave your battery and SIM out for 5-10minutes and put everything back in and turn it on .
2. Restore factory settings: type *#7780# at the standby screen. Enter 12345 for the security code or the one you've changed it to.
Before you try the next two steps, backup your phone memory using PC Suite.
3. Soft reset: This will clean up your phone memory. All user data, applications etc stored in the phone memory will be destroyed. Type *#7370#. Enter the security code when prompted
4. Hard reset: This is the last resort. Turn off your phone, press and hold down these keys: 3, * and the call (Green) button. Turn on your phone without releasing them. Leave the keys only after you see the region selection screen.
5. Reinstall the firmware: Download and install the latest Nokia Software Updater from the Nokia website. Connect to the internet, connect your phone to the PC and run NSU. Follow on-screen instructions carefully. Make sure you have a full battery and a stable PC before you proceed.

How to remove map from n95 8gb

i have no use for the map in my n95 8gb.its of no use to me and wanted to remove it.how to do it and if i remove it will it make any difference in the speed of my phone

Nokia Software Update.
It will wipe clean the phone and re-write it again. With everything the same as if it were bought new. If the firmware has been updated then you may get new added features and fixed known bugs or issues with the phone
P.s dont do it if you dont fully understand how. You can destroy the phone if done incorrectly.

N95 8gb dead or can i fix it? help!

hey all,
first time ive posted here but im hoping you guys can help. I have a n95 8gb that was working fine until today.
I turn the phone on it loads normally but once its booted the only button that works is the power button.
When its loading i can cancel the nokia hand shaking video with the C button so i dont think its a hardware thing. Ive tried doing a hard reset but that does work. I have tried to do a firmware update but i cant select the mode of transfer when i plug it into my computer (because the keys dont work). One thing i didnt notice was weird one of the times it loaded the list of open programs came up and had programs ive never heard of before running/opening one was carosel and the other one was adatserver.
so im kinda stuck
any suggestions?

If no keys work after you boot up then you can only try the Hard Reset.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
The "3 finger deep reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM.
Failing the above, your only remaining option is to send it to your nearest Nokia Care Point.

N-Gage says "System error" on my N95 8GB

Is it an European or North American (USA/Canada) version of the N95 8GB?
When you installed it, were you asked whether you want to install it in phone memory or a memory card? If so, which one did you choose?
What's the firmware version of your phone? What language?
Where did you download N-Gage from? The n-gage.com web site, I presume?
Any errors during the installation?
Have you had the earlier, unoffcial and unsupported version that was available on some web sites during the "First Access" phase (February/March) installed on the phone previously?

I can't open App Store, contacts or imessage

last day I update my Imac to Mavericks.
I create the icloud for my iphone and ipad.
After doing.. I run the program Cleanmymac.
After this I can't open,maps, imessage, app store, contacts, ibook and others. calender, itunes is running. mail also. finder too.
perhaps something happens while running Cleanmymac.

Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.

Zero, the N95 8GB (the black one) does not have a memory card slot.
If you are talking about the original N95 (the silver one) the maximum size of micro SDHC card it can accept is currently 8GB. It is believed that 12GB and 16GB cards will work. It is important to use a good branded card like sandisk, cheap cards can cause problems.
If you have seen a black N95 8GB with a card slot it is a fake.

Can I safely change N95 8GB Mass Storage's name?

I have many software installed on my N95 8GB. I have an option to change the Mass Storage's name.
Is it safe to change the name from "Mass Storage" to something else?

Yes, the name of the mass storage can be changed with no ill effects.
Software always accesses the mass storage by "drive letter", pretty much the same way Windows does. To see this in action, create a playlist containing a few music files that are on your memory card and then open the resulting playlist file in a text editor. You'll see that all the tracks are referred to as E:\whatever_path\music_file.mp3
Interestingly enough, from a technical point of view, the name assigned to the mass storage is in fact a special kind of file called a "volume identifier". By changing the volume name you're merely renaming this special file.

Nokia N95 8gb Nokia maps problem and comparing E61...

I have a nokia n95 8gb, i cant use the gps sistem of the nokia maps program without using the bluetooth, internet or Wifi(if i use it, the marker on the map is a square. In other words, i cant use it like a tom tom, but a friend of mine has the nokia E61i and he can find himself with his mobil (it comes out in a red dot) and he doesnt have to use the wifi or bluetooth, or anything else like a tom tom. If somebody knows why please tell me and if it changes or anything i live in barcelona.

Hi Nick,
Not certain what is causing the problem, but I do know that your phone needs to download maps, so you should connect using GPRS or Wifi to download the maps and then you should have maps for your locality, but you will need to connect again if you move outside of the locality. The best advise I would say is to get an internet add on for your phone so you won't be charged extra.
you may be able to download maps and load them on also. You may also need to turn off the network assisted GPS so you are only using the built in GPS not the internet to find where you are.
