Can't open mpg format

I recently used a Sony HD camcorder shot some movies connected to the macbook tried to use iDVD didn't recognize format, so I dragged folder from camcorder to Mac hard drive, tried to open the mpg file using Quick time couldn't open it. iMovie too could not open.
Asked an Apple store said only using Final Cut applications would make the movie not iMovie. So thinking of buying Final cut Express HD 3.5. But before I buy is there still a way where I can open my mpg file?

Hi(Bonjour)!
As FCE nor iMovie don't support natively new media captured on hard disk or media card or DVD, see those poste:

You have to convert your material before importing in FCE.

  • I have a Nikon D810, I have a trial version Ligtroom 5 and I can not open NEF format, help me please.

    I have nikon D810 , i can not open Nef format .

LR 5.6 is needed, and your destination needs to be writable by LR, and you cannot have touched the files with Nikon software that is old, like what you might have used with your previous Nikon camera, to transfer or view the images before importing into LR.
Obsolete Nikon software changes something in the metadata of newer-camera NEFs that makes the raw files unrecognizable to Adobe software.  You can correct the corruption with a utility from here:

  • Can't open raw format files in photoshop elements 3.0

I'm sure this question has been posed here 1,000 times already, and I've just spent over an hour surfing the web, using adobe on-line support, etc. -- too much to sift through, and none of it giving me a simple answer.
    So here's the question:
    - Using Windows XP
    - I have a Nikon D40
    - Photoshop Elements 3.0
    - 2.3 Camera Raw Plug In
From what I am able to gather, I SHOULD be able to open raw format files using PE 3.0, but I get the various error messages:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
Am I missing some sort of simple step before I start downloading plug-ins I don't need and messing up all the settings on my computer? Any help would be appreciated, and once again, apologies if I'm repeating a question that's been asked a million times before.

Support for the Nikon D40 was added in Camera Raw version 3.7. So you would need Photoshop Elements 4.0 or later to be able to use that.
To use your version you may need to download the free DNG converter from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and convert your D40 files from NEF to DNG.

  • Help - can't open .mpg file with Quicktime 7.3

    Hi folks,
Just tried to open a .mpg file of a recent santa visit for my little boys and Quicktime indicated it couldn't open it saying it wasn't a movie.
I upgrade to Quicktime pro but that didn't solve the problem.
Any thoughts as regards possible symptoms ? When I left Lapland the assistant played back the clips on a USB disk so it seems as if the file is okay !?
I was trying to import the clip into an iMovie project to burn a DVD in time for Christmas - any other application I could use as a workaround to get this into a format that iMovie would recognise ?
    Thanks,
    Kieran.

  • Can't open AVCHD format in Premiere Pro CS4

I just bought Premiere CS4 and updated with all available updates from Adobe. I tried to import a AVCHD file and it says this file format is not supported.
I thought I read the CS4 supports AVCHD now. The thing is, the format option is grayed out in the Media browser, so I must be doing something wrong.
I think I might try reinstalling the software.

I believe I'm having a closely related problem... I am new to video, with a Canon HF20 camera. I have shot some clips to
the internal disk.  I have the trial of PPro CS4 on a Vista-64 machine.  I was able to port the files over to my computer
using Canon's file transfer s/w, but when I try to bring them into PPro using the Media Browser, it says my .mts files are
not recognized and refuses to import them.
Is it confirmed that the trial doesn't support AVCHD?  If so, I find that weird!  But if confirmed, can I simply pay them for
the full version, insert the serial number, and suddenly see the s/w start working for me in AVCHD?  Or do I have to (1) use
Harm's Clean CS4 to remove all traces of the trial, and (2) go purchase and download a full working copy?
Yechhh!  I guess I'm amazed that Adobe would set up a "trial" that isn't for so many users...
By the way, is my setting of project options also key to getting this right?  This also looks not exactly intuitive--I'm
shooting in Canon's FXP mode, which I believe is 1440x1080, 60 fps interlaced, and 17 Mbps.  I'm just trying to learn the
s/w. but would like to use the results over the web or via CD/DVD exports to friends/family.
    Thanks,

  • Can't open Windows-formatted disk

My accountant sent me a CD-R with my Quickbooks file on it. The disk name is UDFREADER. When I open the disk, I see only three things: Autorun.inf, Udfrchk.exe, and Udfrinst.zl.
I looked at the disk with Disk Utility, which shows it as 9.4 MB Untitled, and beneath that, as UDFREADER.
The fact that it reads as 9.4 MB suggests that my file is on there, but all I see are the three listed above, which are all small (KB-sized) files.
Is my QB file on here, and I just can't see it?
    BC

The .exe file and .zl file are kind of suspicious to me. I don't think they should be there if the disc is only supposed to contain QB files. Its entirely possible the disc was burned incorrectly with the wrong files.

  • Can't open Pages 08 document in Pages 09?!

I,ve created a document in Pages 08 on my Imac. When I'm trying to open that document in my Ipad (which has Pages 09) I get a message saying I can't open a document created in Pages 08 in Pages 09. Is that really correct or is there any way around this problem?
    Cheers
    Michael

In the description of Pages for iPad, it's clearly stated that it may open Pages '09 documents which means that it can't open older formats.
I add that this question was already asked and answered.

  • Can't open very large JPEGs from PSE 13 on other computers

I've produced JPEGs in the 40-300 MB range in PSE 13 (Windows 8.1).  However, I can't open them on other computers operating with Windows Vista or Windows 7.  I get an error message to the effect that "Windows Photo Gallery can't open - file format not supported, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Gallery".  I do have the latest updates, so that's not the issue.  The photos will open through PSE 11 on one of the other computers, but that won't help if I give the photos to someone who doesn't have PSE on their computer.  Any ideas?

    Does this help?

  • Can't open file after editing video in CS5

I have now tried editing a video file three times in PHotoshop. Each time it has frozen during export, and when I Force Quit and try to reopen the file I get an error message that I can't open this format of document with my version. I have an Education version of CS5, so I have the Extended version of Photoshop. This is driving me crazy. Any ideas?

Found another related thread and the tip to confirm that PS was up to date. After updating the file worked.
Finding the right answer in here takes too much work (or did I miss the way to search for answers?). Lots of posts on this topic, but only one helpful answer that I found.

  • Can't Open Numbers file, wrong format

Hello I have Numbers version 3.2
I have a friend who has created 3 numbers spreadsheets.  I can not open them on my mac.
On my Mac with mavericks , I get error can't open file. I checked console and got detailed message "8/13/14 8:04:54.759 PM Numbers[284]: *** Assertion failure #2: -[TSAImportController prepareForImportDisplayingProgress:] TSAImportController.m:292 Could not create importer for document at /Users/bill/Desktop/2014 Conference Spreadsheet.numbers."

What does this indicate, they can take the same file and make it an Xcel and I can open.
I tried to move the file over to the cloud and open , and I get error 'invalid file format"  what is going on here ?

Update #3 .. I tried to install an old version of numbers.  Interesting enough files still error, but they error with the error reported on iCloud.  "could not open file, wrong format" console : 8/14/14 8:23:49.220 PM Numbers[425]: Error opening document in -[SFAppApplicationDelegate(Private) doCoordinatedReadWorkForURL:]. • Error while opening pdf in reader in windows 8:Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format

I have a problem with a pdf file which does not open with reader in windows 8 but it opens properly with adobe pdf reader. All other pdf can be opened in reader. But when i open a pdf(see this link for pdf for which i got error http://incometaxsoft.com/temp/Form.pdf)
it gives error as "Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format".
The same file opens properly in adobe pdf reader. You can check the pdf file which i have mentioned in the link above. But the reader which comes with windows 8 can open some other pdf in the same PC.What may be the error causing this??

This has turned out to be an enormous issue for me as I sell PDF files as ebooks. I have done a fair amount of investigating this for my system.
My files have to be compatible not just across readers but across operating systems.
To date, I have over 200 PDFs that have functioned flawlessly across Mac, PC (Windows 7 and below), Android, iPhone/iPad, Linux.
I personally test my PDFs using a variety of readers and PDF editors including
    PDF XChange (my favorite)
Foxit (runner up for me and I recommend for most people)
    Adobe (the bloated monster)
Nitro 9 (great for moving graphical elements around)
    ABBYY
And the Nuance PDF Create toolsets
Those are off the top of my head. There are a bunch on Android that I test with too.
I am running the Windows 10 Pro Tech Preview and I have this same problem so I know it isn't fixed yet in any kind of pre-release way (-sigh-)
Here is what I've learned for my situation
The PDFs I created using NUANCE'S PDF CREATE PROFESSIONAL VERSION 8
all fail using the built-in Windows 8/10 PDF reader.
When I look at the PDF properties for these Nuance created files, the underlying engine used to write them is called "ImageToPDF". Using ABBYY it indicates their own engine as does everyone else that I've tried. It is easy for you to check to see
what created your PDF by doing a "Control D" (look at the document properties). Perhaps there's a common engine causing issues.
If I use the exact same source files to create a PDF using any of my other tools I have no issues. I checked the PDF versions made by the tools and they are all set to 1.5.
A customer mentioned being able to convert them in a way they worked by saving them without having to do any kind of extraction, but I have not been able to duplicate that. Perhaps he did a "print" which seems like it could work.
In summary, the workaround everyone is talking about, using an alternate reader, of course works. But not everyone wants to change.
The culprit I have found is my Nuance PDF Creation tools that are using the ImageToPDF engine.
I hope it gets FIXED as I really don't want to have to regenerate all of my PDF files.
