Can't open MTS files (AVCHD) - help please

I'm having trouble understanding a good workflow for my Canon HF S10 AVCHD camera. This stores files in the standard HD file structure (AVCHD -> BDMV -> STREAM), in MTS files.
I always shoot in 24p and need to do pulldown removal all the time. While FCP 7 allows you to access MTS files (as long as you keep them in their original directory structure) in the Log and Transfer window and ingest them just fine, there's no option there to do the pulldown removal there. Furthermore, Compressor will not allow me to open MTS files (whether or not they're in their original directory structure) to perform the pulldown removal I need.
As far as I've seen, the only thing I can do is to Log and Transfer first into ProRes, then go to Compressor and do the pulldown removal on those ingested files, writing back again to ProRes. But that's the old "making a copy of a copy", which I'd think would degrade the quality.
I'd like to open the MTS files and convert them straight to ProRes while simultaneously doing the pulldown removal so I can avoid recompressing several times and degrading the quality.
Ideas?

Yes, it's annoying that in Log and Transfer it won't remove the pulldown, but here's the workaround.
Log and Transfer as usual. Then create a droplet using Compressor that will remove telecine and transcode into your intermediate codec of choice (ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 LT would be my suggestions). Drag your original files onto the droplet and let it transcode them.
VoltaicHD is a good program for doing this in one step, but it is really slow in my experience. I find it faster to do it in two steps using FCP and Compressor than doing it in one step using Voltaic.
