Can't Open New Song in iTunes

I just downloaded a song from the internet (not pirated--It was released as a promotion and was therefore a free download from Soundcloud).
The issue is when I tried to open it in iTunes, it would cause the cloud icon next "Music" under Library to exhibit animated diagonal lines, but the song will not open in my Library. I tired to update iTunes match in an attempt to upload the new song to iCloud for access from my library, but it still isn't in my library.
I dragged it onto a playlist and it is now available in playlists and on my other devices, but still not searchable in my complete iTunes Library which makes no sense to me. I've updated Match several times and it still doesn't exist there.
Any advice?

This topic has been discussed in some depth on the forum. First, quit iTunes the relaunch it. If that doesn't solve the problem then disable iTM, wait a couple of minutes, and reenable it. Either of these steps will generally clear up this issue.

I installed iTunes match and have uploaded my songs. Now a lot of songs appear more brightly grey (not black) with a cloud, so i can't open, steam, listen, them.

    Hello Claudia,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iTunes Match.  I found an article with some steps you can take when you're not able to play or download songs using iTunes Match.
I recommend reviewing the section titled "If you are unable to download a song, play a song, or access songs from iTunes Match" in the following article:

  • Can't add new songs to iTunes.

I have lots of songs in iTunes, but i suddenly can't add more songs... i tried so many ways, but i can't add any song.
iTunes has worked well in my Windows since I installed it and i had never had this problem. I would be pleased if you help me.

I have found that the maximum number of files that can be added with the new version 7 is three whether using the file add or the folder add function. I have been trying to contact iTunes but no luck and no answer.

  • Can't open purchased songs from itunes store

I downloaded songs from itunes store a while back. My laptop crashed and now i have a small ASUS eee pc with a 4gb hard drive. I have windows XP SP1 and cannot upgrade to SP2 (not enough room on my HD). i had to get an older version of itunes that's compatible with SP1. I can see the songs that I purchased but when I click on them it asks for password to authorize, then i enter it and then it says 'this computer is already authorized.' So now, what do I do? Help!!! I want the songs I bought!

Was your backup copy stolen as well?
If so, you can try e-mailing itunes support to see if they will make an exception, although they are under no obligation to do so.

I just spent several hours dealing with this when switching to a new PC. It was extremely frustrating as I knew my files were on my external HD but no matter how many times I copied my old iTunes folder over the files were still missing...because dummy me had forgotten to "unhide folders" on my new PC and my old files were actually stored in a hidden folder created long long ago.
This is how I did it on Windows 7 with iTunes 10
    1. Look in iTunes Advanced Preferences to see where iTunes is saving files. (Edit, Preferences, Advanced)
         Example: C:/Users/Woildbill/My Music/iTunes/Music
    2. Ensure you are able to see hidden files - Control Panel, Folder Option, View, Show Hidden Files
    3. Use Your Computer's Search Function to Locate the Missing File (Start, Search, type name of song - I started my search in "My Music" folder but be sure to expand to entire Computer if not found right away)
    4. In Search Results, right-click found folder and select properties. This will tell you where the file is actually stored.
    5. Use Windows Explorer (right-click start) to navigate to the location of the file. It is likley your other missing files are in the same location.
    6. In Windows Explorer, copy the newly located files to the iTumes location from Step 1 and everything should work again.
    Hope this helps!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Check the songs are really not in the Music section of the library by clicking the magnifying glass in the search box and unticking Search Entire Library if it is ticked, then typing in the name of the album. If the tracks still don't show try closing iTunes and deleting a hidden file called sentinel from inside your iTunes folder. This should make iTunes run an integrity check on the database when you start it again. Make sure the tracks are checked before you try syncing again.

  • How can I add new songs to the top (not the bottom) of my playlist in iTunes?

How can I add new songs to the top of my playlist in iTunes?
I thought thats what it did before but now it automatically adds new songs to the bottom of the list.
Not a huge issue but an annoyance.

    Go to your Music library
    Then, Click Playlist
Then, Click the sort arrow until it points down.

  • Ipod will not update new songs from itunes

My ipod will not update new songs from itunes. I've purchased several songs from the music store, updated my playlists and as added some from my CD collection and they are not transfering from my library to my ipod.
I've tried numerous configurations under the preferences - ipod menue but still can't get them to transfer.
One error I occasionally get is "ipod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the itunes music library"
There is plenty of room on my ipod so I can't figure out why. It almost seems as if it is trying to copy all of my songs not just the new ones because all songs in my librbary are checked.

    Thank you for responding.
Doesn't it have to be on either manual or auto update? What other option is there?
I will try downloading latest updates.
I know it will work if I reset it (have done it a few times already). I just hate having to restore factory settings everytime I want to put a new song onthe ipod.

  • Can't sync new songs to iPod after hard drive replacement.

A few months ago, I had my hard drive replaced on my Windows Vista laptop. So I backed up all my files including iTunes to an external drive. When the new hard drive was installed I restored the iTunes library back. Yesterday was the first time since the restore that I purchased new music from the iTunes store. I bought 6 new songs. I can see the new songs in the iTunes library but when I sync the iPod the new songs do not transfer over to the iPod. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

I found the link below and it worked. I added the songs manually.

  • Can't change new song settings/names/anything

I've recently put some new songs into itunes from different CDs. As opposed to the other songs I have on there, I can't change anything about the songs - the names, artists, can't change the volume settings (which is the biggest hassle).
what's going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    This hapened to me once.
What I did was burn the song onto another CD and then import the cd into Itunes.
    It fixed the problem.

  • When I try to open a song in iTunes it locks up for a time

Like the title says, whenever I try to open a song in iTunes (for example, if a friend were to send me something over MSN), my computer freezes up for anywhere from 1 to 30 or more minutes. Sometimes CtrlAltDel fixes it right away but oftentimes the computer is stuck until it loads. Does anyone know what is wrong, or how to fix it?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

My old computer crashed and I can't sync new songs from my new computer to my IPod without erasing all of the existing content on the IPod.  Can new songs be added without erasing?

    Yes by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
However, you can make this computer the syncing computer by:
    - Transering iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - For synced photos you need a program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. The do music too.
    - After everything is on the computer connect the iPod to the computer and make a backupo by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps, music, synced photos.
