Can't open old files in Pages. Don't want to upgrade. Help please

I am happy with my old Pages program ... some files I created on the old Pages open fine, as normal. However, some files I created on the
old Pages (created in Dec. 2013) will not open. I get a pop up from Apple saying that I have to upgrade.
I would be delighted to upgrade and pay the $20 but I read horrible reviews about the new Pages upgrade. So I would like to stick with my old
Pages but how can I open these files that are closed to me unless I purchase the new upgrade. Inexplicably, I can open some files that I created this month on the old pages. But some will not open.
Is there a trick to opening these Pages files ?
Or should I go ahead and get the new download and take a chance. I only mix text with photos ... no footnotes.

Hi Jerry ... you were absolutely correct ... I must have downloaded the new version since I found Pages-Applications in Spotlight. Then I dragged it from Application to the dock where it now sits next to my old Pages. I tried to open up my file but still could not. How can I export it back to Word 09 (my old Pages) if I cannot open it. And this file will not open now, even when I have my new Pages in the dock. Or should I just give up on opening this file.
Also, I think I prefer the old Pages (Word 09) ... how can I make sure that I am creating documents in this program. I assume that I can keep it and continue to work with that. I guess the only way to prevent this from happening again is to check if I am using the old Pages before I start a document ??

BUG - Edge animate 2014.1 (October) can't open old files (from 2014 version)

In this new version I can’t open old files anymore…
When I open file that created in previous version 92014, for example) new Edge - 2014.1 - want to upgrade the file, but then I receive “an error occurred while upgrading file”…
And there is no way to download old version and to change old files if i need some changes in text, for example...

ERRORS Muse not menus working, JSON, can't open old files

Using 2014.4CC
I built out a site, went to save an upload to BC.
Midway thru upload, got a JSON error .. see screenshot below. It exited, reopened the file and happened again.
Renamed the folder at ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Muse CC to force a refresh of prefs ... Muse would open, but no menus, can't open pages, exit, etc ...
So I uninstalled Muse using the uninstaller in Apps folder, cleared the folders in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Muse CC
Reinstalled Muse from CC app ... opens, can create a new site, but open any old ones, the menus still don't work.
How do i get a fresh install and open my older files again?

All menus grayed out ... can't edit old files, can only create a new one ....
What folders do i purge and install Muse? This all started with a JSON error above ... using late Muse app 2014.2

I can't open my files. Pages asks me to save them in 09. How ?

Can't open old files in CS5 since upgrading to OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Since I upgraded to OS X, I can open all my CS5 programs and create new files. However, I can't open files I created (even a week ago on CS5) since I upgraded to Mavricks. I googled it and I tried updating my Adobe drive and I updated Java, but I still can't open any file I created before downloading mavericks. In Indesign, I get an error message "Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be opened by another application" and In Illustrator I just get the spinning wheel of death...
Any ideas or suggestions?

Can't open doc. files in pages

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Pages won't let me open doc files.
Is there a way I can fix this?
Also...I was just thinking about upgrading to the newer iLife09.
Would that be a better thing to do running Snow Leopard and what not?
And if I do upgrade to iLife09, I'll still be able to open iLife08 documents.

iLife & iWork are two separate software packages/suites sold by Apple. I do believe you mean iWork '08.
Many users are finding problems with the iWork apps in Snow Leopard due to not having the latest updates as of the September 28 installed. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. iWork '09 has since had update 3. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

Can't open .doc files in Pages with Snow Leopard

I just installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Pages can no longer open .doc files. I receive the error message: "The document “XXX.doc” couldn’t be opened."

But now I don't have the option "save as" word document as I used to before I installed the update for snow leopard. It only lets me save as iwork '06 or '05.
That's Pages 3/iWork '08. You may have both iWork '08 & '09 on your Mac & '08 has opened. You can have more than one version, I have three, but you'll need to find a way to identify each one. I have changed the icons for two of the versions & have aliases to each in a folder where I added the version number. This way I can know which one I'm opening & they look different in my Dock. Do not add a version number to the actual application, the updaters then won't find them. (Can you tell I like changing icons? )

Can I open cws files in pages?

I got rid of my old G5 iMac but kept the hard drive. It's got some .cws files that Pages won't read. Is there a converter out there that can open them?

How can I open rtf files in pages?

I just bought a "New iPad" (iPad3)
I am am to succesfully sync .doc files from my MacBook running Lion over to pages on my ipad using itunes.
Then I can sucessfully edit the .doc files.
But when I try it with .rtf files, I can see them on my ipad, but it won't open them.
I want to be able to move all my documents over to my ipad, but I don't want to have to convert each file individually to a .doc just so I can edit them on ipad.

Are you sure you haven't upgraded Pages on your Mac to Pages 5?
Check your Applications folder and the Applications/iWork folder. You may have 2 versions on your Mac.

Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files

I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8. I recently installed Office for Mac 2011. I cannot open some of my old files. I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?

I can open my files but not in color, and my base maps imported via cut and paste do not show up; and I cannot move most objects or alter text boxes. The top of the screen shows RGB/outline.

Logic: can't open old files..

I recently downgraded from Lion OS to SL 10.6.3, i installed logic pro and tried to open the files that i'd made back when i was using SL10.6.7 but it says that 'the document "..."(the name of the file) could not be opened.'
I formatted the computer and installed SL that is why im using 10.6.3, and i don't know if i have to upgrade it again to 10.6.7 to be able to open the files or not...
Help please!

Well, I will.
It is to be expected that files made in a higher OS will not open and/or give trouble when opened in a lower OS. So I'ld say: update back to 10.6.7, that seems the only solution. Any reason why you haven't done that?
