Can't open old garageband files (2006) on my new mac (ios 10.7)

Hope someone can help!!
I do have some own music made from my old mac. It broke and i've just been able to take all the undone files (only .band-files) on a external driver. As i've got now a new mac (version ios 10.7) all my songs are not able to open up. The software will start, but the tracks are all empty. what can I do?

try burning them to a disc on a machine that has it's software up to date. Then load them that way

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

How can I open old cwk files using OS X 10.8.4?

I have tried to open old cwk files using Pages, using Numbers and using Keynote as well as trying to open them with Word or even OpenOffice. However, the most I can get is what looks like gibberish. Any suggestions? Thanks

Don't know if you found a solution to your cwk File problem but I had the same problem and solved it by downloading this program and was able to open my old cwk files.

Can't open old AppleWorks files on new MacBook Pro w/Snow Leopard

Just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro, did the migration from my old (2 yrs) MacBook via FireWire. Many of the old application icons are not appearing in my Dock, just Question marks ???. When I click on a ?, it indicates the name of that app which was there on the old MacBook, but there's no icon & I can't open the app from there. I can't find my Adobe Reader app, & several others, on the hard drive. Maybe I can find a work around for those....
BUT - zillions of files in the old AppleWorks/ClarisWorks files open in sometimes unreadable text, with all formatting gone. I NEED these files!! Please help!!

Ahh...then it may actually be damaged. All of my old AppleWorks docs (word-processing docs) are opening just fine with Pages. On the other hand, if the AW doc is a drawing or database doc then Pages might not be able to open it. If the AW doc is a spreadsheet, it might open with Numbers.

No, If you still have your AppleWorks installation disk, I would suggest installing it and trying to open the 'damaged' docs that way. Later, if an item won't open in Pages but will open in AW, then resave it in AW as a generic format that Pages will open. In this way you can move these docs from the now unsupported AW and into Pages format. If we wait too long, we may not be able to install AW at some point in the future and then your old docs will be orphaned.

Running Logic 8, but can't open old LSO files

I have a few two old LSO files that I need to open, but can't because I am running 8. It says that I have to have Logic Pro version 7.2.1 in order to convert.
If you can help me out - i.e. if you can open and convert my files to new sessions that can open in Logic 8/9 - then I'd be happy to reimburse you for your time.

How old? InDesign can only PM files from version 6.0 and later.
If they're older than that you'll need to open them PM 7 and resave them.

Upgraded to C4, removed C3 - now can't open old C3 files with C4

Hi,
I have been using demo version of C4 and upgraded today.
My system automatically opened C4 files with C3 first of all so decided to remove C3 from my sytem.
Now i can't open any of my old C3 files in C4. what heppens is C4 says it needs to reformat the project so it can be used in C4 as expected. The system goes away and does it stuff but no differnt file is produced. I try to open the original C3 file and have to go round same loop again with no success.
Please Help as i can't do any work until i can open files.

How can i open old flash files in MX

I'm trying to open some old flash files that were created in
the late 80's (honest). i have flash MX but it won't open or import
these files. when i get info on the files, they want to be opened
in flash 8 but that won't launch without classic (which no longer
runs on my macbook pro).
any tips would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Check the folder for the songs on your external hard drive. Is the session file still contained in each one? The session file's the one with the .ses ending.

Can't open old RoboHelp file

I have an old.mpj file given to us from a client that I'm trying to open with the trial version of RoboHelp 8. I get the error "Projects created before version 2.23 cannot be opened with this version of RoboHelp. Call Macromedia technical support for assistance opening this project."
Does anyone have any ideas on how to open this file or extract the data from it? I'm very new to this!

I did reboot the system.
still can't see new user.
One thing though when the system finished transferring the files
at the end a message came up
" 2013-09-11 04:18:05 +0000 Paul Nirwan could not be created.
I did the transfer two times, same thing. first time I used the WiFi
and second time from my back up disk with USB connection, using Migration Assistant.
Second time also said that Paul'Mac already exist, Paul'Mac 2 created.
How can I get rid of first data trasnferred?
It will be using too much space on hard drive if Ileave it therre.

I have the following Problem with my Final Cut Express: When I try to open a project i get an error message: "The file format is too new for this version of the program". (my FCE is in german, this is the google translation!)
I have already erased all the rendering files, but no luck.

How can I open old audition files in New Audition Program?

Help, I had to do a RESTORE on my New Computer , I saved dozen of songs and sessions as well as My Audition 1.5 {Program) on an external HD. When I reinstalled Adobe Audtion on my Computer again, it opens. But when I try to open any of the "songs (seesions) I saved on my external HD, the files do NOT open up in Audition, instead Audition opens up as a New Session., with no Hint of the recorded file. When I insert the files thru Audio, they all come in at the beginning of the tracks, some slower eetc, NOT they way they werfe originally recorded in Audition... what can I do?...thanks./..victor

Can't open old numbers files in version 3.5

some old files can't be openen with the updated Numbers.

UPDATE & WORKAROUND:
Ok, i found a way to at least see the spreadsheet. Change the file extension to .zip and it'll bring up a few files in Finder. Mine came up as INDEX. I was able to do a Quick Look on the file and it shows my spreadsheet.
I'll have to re-enter the info into a new spreadsheet, but at least I was able to see my data.
I'll be using Google Docs from now on. What a hassle?!

Can't open old iMovie files

Hi. This has probably been answered before, but I couldn't find any thread about it.
Anyway, I'm trying to open a movie made and saved in an older iMovie program, and it doesn't work.
It starts fair enough by asking if I want to convert it, and starts doing it until 50% has been converted.. But then iMovie always falls out/quits by itself.
Is there anything I can do? Patches? Anything?
And if not, does iMovie 6 fix this bug?

I wouldn't assume it's a bug. There may some tool used to make the old iMovie project -- a third-party plug-in or a font perhaps -- that isn't installed for iMovie 5. (Even if installed, sometimes third-party plug-ins are incompatible with iMovie 5.)
It's almost impossible to diagnose the problem so I wouldn't spend much time trying. Rather, you should continue editing the project with the version of iMovie that created it, or import its video to a new iMovie HD project. (Instead of converting the project.)
The most recent versions of iMovie created a reference movie inside the project folder that you can import into a new iMovie 5 project. Look for the (small) QuickTime movie with the same name as your old project. Drag it into the iMovie 5 timeline and iMovie will import everything in the timeline of the old project to a new project as a single clip. (If that import fails, that suggests an underlying problem with the source video or audio.)

Can't open old config files?

I'm using 9.0 of the app virtualization software and have been trying to save the configurations as a .xappl file. If I try to open the file on any machine with the Virtualization Software including the one I originally saved it on, it gives an error stating that "The configuration file can not be processed because: The system can not find the file specified". Anyone know how to fix this and can tell me whats going on?

I have seen this before when the file contains references to files via relational paths (for example, if the output file is listed as ..\..\output.exe). I would actually like to take a look at one such file, if possible. I'm not sure if you have access to, but if you can and are willing please upload the file to the thread. Otherwise, you can send it to [email protected] and I'll take a look.
