Can't open or create dmg files!!

I'm not sure if this is related to the recent update or not, I'm at 10.4.8 on an iMac G5 (w/iSight) Trying to open any dmg file yields a Warning message: "The following disk images failed to mount", with the image listed, and the 'Reason' is "Device not configured" Any attempts to create or mount an image via Disk Utility result in the same error. I would be calling tech support, but they're only open when I'm at work

After reinstalling Safari, etc., I tried installing the Schubert plug-in mentioned in an e-mail above. It didn't work until I went into Adobe preferences and turned off the instruction telling it to display downloaded pdf files. Suddenly, voila! I'm downloading files fast into the browser, and can save them fast to my desktop. So, thanks, whoever it was that suggested that little plug-in.

It sounds like all your launch services file associations have somehow been corrupted. I suggest your reset the launch services bake to their initial default settings.
The easiest way for you to do this is probably to get a maintenence utility like OnyX (download the Lion version for your case). It has, among many other things, a way to rebuild the launch services. Launch OnyX. It will ask for your admin password and a window like below will be dispallyed.
As you can see from the above picture in OnyX you select Maintenance, Rebuild tab, check the LaunchServices checkbox, and click the Execute button (not shown here but it's at the bottom of the window).
Note, the above shows the window for the Snow Leopard version of OnyX. I don't know if the Lion version is different since I don't use Lion.

10.5.5 Can't open previously created Illustrator files!!

I've recently updated to 10.5.5 and now I can't open previously created Illustrator files, prior to the update, I had no problems. I get the error message- can't open the illustration with an OK box which, when clicked, opens the document in preview mode, but I can't do anything with the document!
Anyone else have this problem?

Without one of those, your only solution is to try an Archive & Install installation.

Can't open existing/create new files after reinstall

I had the trial version installed to test the software and everything was running fine until I started having some issues with my computer. So I ended up reinstalling the trial version and now I can't open existing XLF files or create new ones. Both the "new" and "open" icons are now grayed out.

Make sure you take a fresh copy of Xcelisu and reinstall the entire application again.

Can't open and install .dmg files

Hi there,
I have this problem and can't find a solution, knowing that I verified and repaired all possible permissions already.
When I go to download one file, let's say Adobe Flash update, and I click on download, all I get is a fake start that ends with a black page.
I have the same problems on all my computers, pretty weird.

Back up all data, then uninstall "Speed Download." The developer is out of business and his website is gone. The following instructions were on the site:
You cannot simply trash the Speed Download folder to un-install it.
You must use the included un-installer.
Quit all browsers and any running copy of Speed Download.
Run the SD Uninstaller (located in your Speed Download folder).
Log out and log back in.
Empty the trash.
I have no other information about the product. I haven't tested the instructions, and I don't know whether they work. If they're not clear, I can't clarify.
Other system modifications that can cause this kind of problem are "iGetter" and "TVU Player."

Can't open iTunes 8 dmg file

Ok, tried downloading the file this morning only to find out that my G5 (OSX 10.4.1) can't read it. So I look at the requirements for it and it says I need 10.4.9. I have an existing ipod and to continue using it I need to upgrade to the latest version. Do I need to upgrade to the latest Tiger or is there some way I don't have to? I recently received one of the new nano's not to long ago and I really don't want to change my operating system, nor pay for the upgrade. And I am sick of having to be forced to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes because of the ipods (experienced this with my 3rd gen).

No one forced you to upgrade iTunes. You could easily have decided not to, but you didn't. Your choice. You aren't forced to upgrade your operating system. Just don't buy accessories that require it by reading their system requirements (usually on the box) before purchasing. Again, your choice. 10.4.9 is an incremental Tiger update. You can freely download the Combo Updater at support.apple.com/downloads/. Or not, it's your choice. No one's twisting your arm. Try reading the requirements before jumping into action.

I'm not sure I understand the question, so let's see if this hits the mark... When you open an encrypted .dmg file, you must supply the password. From then on, as long as it appears as a "disk" on the desktop, you can access that disk and all the files on it without a password. When you're done, you drag the "disk" (not the .dmg file!) to the Trash to "eject" it. At this point, it's locked up again, and you'll have to enter the password to open it again.
Does that answer the question? If not, you'll have to be more specific.

I'm using Windows, and just updated to Acrobat 9. (Installed Pitstop and quite imposing) and when i go to 'Edit' or quite imposing i get the following error message:

Hi, I've been asked to join this discussion. CCleaner is a nice tool, but if you used the Registry Cleaner that came with it, it might have done something to Photoshop's registry entries. There is that danger in using them.
One thing CCleaner does is leave a backup of the registry, or you can use Windows System Restore to go to that point before you ran the Cleaner. Let's go with System Restore. Review the instructions.

Can't open or run downloaded files

I can't open or run any files that I have downloaded through Firefox. I reset the profile, I uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox, I created a new profile, I changed the download location, I made a new downloads folder, etc. I think it is somehow being blocked by McAfee, because the only way I can open the folder is if I turn off McAfee or I go into properties of the downloaded file and click "unblock". If this computer were mine, I could live with it just clicking "unblock", but the owner wants it to work correctly without having to go into properties or leave computer unprotected.
