Can't open pages doc from iCloud on iMac

I have been using pages v5.2.2 on my iMac (OS X 10.9.5). I have saved several files on in the iCloud location, so far no problem. I opened pages to access a critical file, clicked on the iCloud button, saw my file, clicked it and got the "The file "xxxxxxx.pages couldn't be opened." Is there anyway to access this file??!!! Help please!!

One way to download the file to your Mac is through the iCloud website: https://www.icloud.com and click on Pages and find your file. Click the file, it will open in a new tab, and click on the spanner icon, choose "Download a copy" (see spanner icon below)

I am using the most up to date version of Mavericks and Pages and can log into iCloud without any problems. Is this just a glitch? The files all behaved properly under previous versions and the initial release of the new version of Pages.

Pages for iCloud beta is a weird beast and as it says "beta".
I think it is the least compatible of all the many different .pages files floating around out there.

I can't open pages files from USB and iCloud due to : "The necessary file index.xml is missing". Original file is written on iMac (2014) and saved to an USB stick and then transferred till macBook Pro (2009, Yosemite) for editing. Then I shared the files by iCloud but I am not able to open them on iMac again. Niether can I use the USB stick to transfer the edited files back. I'm running Pages '09 4,1 (923) on the macBook and Pges 5.5.2 (2120) on the iMac.

Pages 5.5.2 is extremely incompatible with even other Macs let alone the vast majority of PC and MsWord users out there, so not a good idea to leap into the fire with both eyes shut.
After having done that to the first Pages 5 files, Apple has repeatedly done it to even the most minor point updates. Apple can't even anticipate its own erratic changes let alone what everyone else needs doing.

it says i need a newer version but it won't let me download it from the app store and i can't for some reason just go buy a copy either. I'm willing to pay money but apple doesn't want it.

For those who question why I "unnecessarily" need to repeat the following endlessly, when Apple employees repeatedly don't get it right:
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

I have newly edited Pages docs that I cannot open despite my system telling me that all Apps are up to date and that the latest Pages is "installed".
My OS has been updated too. What's up? I get this error message repeatedly no matter what I try.

Open Pages doc from server by two persons !!!

Hi,
We have noticed that you can open a pages doc from a Apple MAcOS X Server from two diffrent persons, what wil result in not saving any data. Normal you CAN'T open a file that s already open ... !! This is a really big risk .. ?
What to do about this .. ?

This is a flaw that has existed since version 1 of Pages. My solution is to work locally and save globally (locked). It is a pain, I know, but it keeps multiple people from attempting to work on the same file at one time.

Problem open "pages" documents from icloud

Hi,
I have pages for MAC and IPAD. Quite often I cannot open or save documents located on icloud drive. The same document can be opened if I transfer it to local disk or if I look to it using "preview" but when I try to point to the orginal idrive location I get the message "document cannot be opened" or "document cannot be saved" This is odd enough as in icloud settings have pages enabled. The all idea is making my documents on MAC and being able to read them using IPAD or MAC at my own convenience.

I found it helpful to convert all my old Pages '08 files to .doc files. They can be opened by the new version of Pages.
Since the new version of Pages is no longer back compatible, and so not good for anything you want to keep for a long time, you might consider using an open source word processing application like Libra Office. That's what I had to do. After seven years of being a happy Pages user - archiving thousands of files in Pages -Apple has abandoned us. I no longer think it is wise to use the new Pages and then five years down the road (or sooner) not to be able to open them in a newer version.
If you would like a quick way to convert your Pages '08 files to .doc, let me know.

Is there a way to create a batch export of pages docs from iCloud?

I have been using Pages pretty much exclusively for the past couple of years. The new, crippled version has put an end to that. But I have about 1000 docs in iCloud that I need to get out of iCloud an onto to some usable platform like Goggle Docs (which does seem to keep improving, unlike iWork). I suspect that Automator or Applescript may be able to do this, but I'd appreciate any pointers.

If you synchronize Notes with iCloud, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Notes. If you sync Notes with another mail service, disable that in the Internet Accounts or Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane. You may be warned that notes stored on the server will be deleted. If you trust your backups, confirm. Leave the window open.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.apple.Notes" selected. Quit the application if it's running. If you back up with Time Machine, enter it and select the snapshot from which you want to restore.
Log out or restart and empty the Trash.

Applescript: open Pages doc from Templete, change filename and replace text

I just got started with applescript and i want a script that does the following:
1. open "choose from list" dialog to choose the topic of my document
from 4 possibilities (here for example A, B, C, D)
2. open document from TemplateXY
3. set document name with date and topic (dd.mm.yyy) "16.02.2011 - A"
4.inside of document: replace text "date" with the currend date (dd.mm.yyy)
and the text "topic" with the topic chosen in (1.) "A"

How do I Open Pages doc from iOS 2.5.2 on Pages OSX 5.2?

I am trying to open a Pages (I miss '09 sooo much) from my iPad (Pages 2.5.2) onto my Mac (10.9.5) with Pages 5.2. I get an error message every time I try to open the page. It says it can not open file.pages.
Is there anything I can do? I can no longer use the iOS version as I have to do very basic word processing stuff that the stripped down doesn't allow. I know Apple ruined Pages on Mac OSX as well but I am hoping I can use a page break and have it actually insert a page where I want and not at the end of the document (I know asking to rearrange pages is asking too much).

I was able to save it as a Word Document and then open it in Pages and then save the document as a Pages file.

I thought I'd translate some AW docs into Pages format for future safety. Can't apparently do it on my iMac (Intel -Snow Leopard) probably due to lack of cooperation of Rosetta but can do it on my G4 under Leopard. However when I copy these to my iMac and try to open them I get a blank sheet (having gone through a font replacement step). Still nothing. Do I give up? or is there some way to have my AW docs as Pages docs.

As I said in my reply to your e-mail, I had no problems seeing the content of the file in QuickLook in Finder or in Pages 4.3. I checked in both OS X 10.8.4 & 10.6.8.
This is a good example of why it helps for users to post the exact version of Pages (or any app) & OS X they are using. Often we see users post that they have "the latest updates" but, when they finally post the specific version numbers, we see that they don't have the "latest."

Can't open ai doc from flash drive.

Hello.
I run CS3 on my Mac, but have CS4 running on a PC laptop. Last night, I was working on a few ai files that I originally created on my Mac (in CS3). I had no problems with the files and saved them all directly to my flash drive. When I tried to open the same files this morning from the flash drive on my Mac, I got the following message: A file I/O error has occurred. Each ai file I worked on gave me the same error. (Incedentally, the InDesign files I used opened on the Mac just fine.)
I have swapped platforms/versions before with no trouble. I back saved the ai files to CS3. I tried to open the files on the PC, but it wouldn't open on the PC either.
I am not sure if I have an Illustrator problem, a flash drive problem or what? Also, I saved some of the ai files from the PC as eps files to the flash drive and they have seemed to disappear all-together. Maybe it is a PC thing? (I have very little experience with PCs)
Help is desperatly needed. I hate to redo the artwork if I can help it. Naturally, I am under a deadline, so I may have to anyway, but I would like to prevent this from happening in the future.

For some reason, when I tried (again) to open the files from the flash on the PC, the PC wanted to scan it for problems. I allowed it - thinking it might clean up anything that might be causing problems. Only it didn't help at all. In fact, it converted one of the ai files into a text file! Then, more of the files disappeared from the flash after the scan, though it didn't ask permission to delete any files.
I am a Mac girl, so this kind of reinforces any prejudices I have had against PCs. In all of my years of using a Mac, never have files disappeared from my hard drive!
If anyone has any great ideas as far as fixing the ai/text file, that would be great. Otherwise, I had better get busy re-creating all the art. I promise to be cautious using flash drives with ai files going forward.

Can't open pages docs

I can't open any of my existing documents, even ones I created just one day ago! Pages says - You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. So I really need to spend $20 to access my existing files? When I do a check for software update, it says no updates available.
I'm running Pages 09 ver 4.3

OK... my fault. Had both 4.3 and 5.1 versions active on my mac. Got rid of 4.3 and all seems well.

Can't open Pages files from iPad in Word 2010 on PC

I have not been able to open any files created on my iPad (iOS 6.0.1) with Apple Pages in Microsoft Word 2010 on Windows XP Pro and hope someone can suggest a solution.
I am emailing the files as attachments (.docx files) When I try to open the file on my PC, I get an error message when I open them in Word that says:
Word was unable to read this docuemnt.
Try one or more of the following:
* Open and repair the file.
* Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. (C:\Users\...\name of file.doc)
In addition, I tried to open the .docx file in Openoffice.org 3.4.1 and it got a read error.
Any suggestions? Is there any kind of plug-in/add-in for MS Word 2010 that would correct the problem?

Additional: Pages was purchased today from the App store; iPad is Gen4 a couple days old

So...I have played with it more. Simple documents work most of the time. But if I take a more complex doc to Pages, edit it and save it as a Word doc then trasnfer it back to PC or Mac it will fail to open.
Would be nice if I could trust the App. WIll mess more with it but it is very frustrating.

Yes, the deleted docs can be recovered if you have edited the iCloud file with Pages on your Mac and have synched your Mac with a Time Machine before.
I have just mistakenly deleted some iCloud Keynote docs on my iPad and they were erased on all my devices. But I managed to find out the cache location and copied the files from a Time Machine folder(please refer to the picture I upload).
The folder is hidden, so you first need the Mac to show all the hidden files and then try my method.
