Can't open Pdf files after download

After downloading the new iOS 7 manual from the Apple web page, I find neither preview nor abobe reader will open it.  dialogue box comes up saying file is damaged and could not be opened.
However, other pdf files already on the Mac open fine.  Can anyone help here?

Remove any Adobe PDF plugin files from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Then try redownloading the file.

  • Can't open pdf files after downloading from Safari 6.0.5

I was wondering whether anyone else has encountered this bug. Ihave a retina MBP with Safari and Firefox. If I save a pdf to the desktop via Safari I get the following message when I try to open it "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired".
When I download the same file via Firefox, it opens no problem.
It would, therefore seem to be a Safari 6.0.5 pdf problem, rather than an Adobe Acrobat Pro (11.0.3).
I have tried with both extension displayed and not displayed options, no difference.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks for reading.

I encountered the same problem.  In my case, the culprit was a plug-in in the Internet Plug-Ins sub-folder of my User Account's Library folder.
Here's how I proceeded, based on a suggestion by Carolyn Samit here:
    <https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5117605?start=0&tstart=0>
    1. Open the Finder.
    2. In the Finder menu bar, click on the heading Go.  Scroll down to "Go to Folder," and then click the mouse button again.
    3. Copy the following phrase:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
and then paste that phrase into the field in the navigation window that appeared at the end of Step 2.
    3. Click Go.
    4.  If you find a plug-in named AdobePDFViewer.plugin, drag it to the Trash.
    5. Quit and then relaunch Safari.  Then try to load in Safari a PDF from a web site.  Then try saving it.  Once saved/downloaded, try opening the PDF.
When I followed this procedure, the corrupted-PDF problem went away, thanks to Ms. Samit's suggestion.

  • My Safari can´t open .dmg files after downloading

I updated to Mac OS X 4.9. But since this update, Safari cannot open .dmg files after downloading! On 10.4.8 it was not a problem. What can I do?
    eMac G4 PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Darn...I thought that would do the trick.
Given the other problems you mention, more and more, it seems a reinstall of the OS, using Archive and Install is going to be necessary. Have you ever done an Archive & Install of the OS? Important you carefully read the description of the process. If you are uncertain, I find the Take Control Upgrading to Tiger E-zine to be a very helpful guide.
Once you reinstall the OS, then you can upgrade to 10.4.8 using the combo update, repairing permissions via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when complete.
One question: Not sure why you have run into all these problems on the 10.4.9 upgrade. It worked without problem for me. Anything unusual happen during the install?

  • Upgraded to Win 7, now can't open .pdf files after installing Acrobat X

I upgraded OS to Win 7 from Win XP, reinstalled my Acrobat X software and now am unable to open any .pdf files created and saved prior to upgrading OS and reinstalling Acrobat X. I see LOTS of discussion here about this issue (There was an error opening this document. Access denied.) but could someone tell me in SUCCINCT terms what I need to do to restore my ability to open files I created previously. My version of Acrobat X is 10.0.0. Thank you for assistance.

    HI szwarycz,
I will be happy to help.
Please tell me whether you have Adobe Reader or it Acrobat Professional X.
Meantime you can also try to go to edit preferences under categories choose General under general there is button called Select Default PDF Handler.
Click on that button and choose Adobe Acrobat X.  Check the screen shot.
Also you can try right click on any PDF document and choose option "Open with" their you need to choose option "Choose default application"
then you need to search for Acrobat application. Also you can visit this Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/change-default-programs#1TC=windows-7
    Regards.

  • Can't open PDF file - after installed the latest version X on windows 7 (prof) 64 bit.

    I

It sounds like the file association (.pdf → Adobe Reader) is not set.
The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall, then reinstall the Reader.
Download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • I can't open PDF files even though I have downloaded Adobe Reader.  I am using a Mac book Pro

I can't open PDF files as the screen message says I have to reopen the computer and sign the Adobe Reader agreement but even though Adobe has downloaded I don't get any screen message indicating where I would do this.
    Where is this?

after downloading, did you install adobe reader?

  • I can't open pdf files even though adobe reader is downloaded.

I can't open pdf files even though adobe reader X1 is downloaded.

May seem like an obvious question but, did you install it after you downloaded it?
If so, how are you trying to open these files and what happens when you try?

  • I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader ( I had it until recently) and don't have an "edit options"

I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader. (I had it until recently.) None of the "helps" seem to help. I can't even open Adobe Reader now.

Ignore the instructions about "edit options", to install Adobe Reader download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and run the installer. Alternatively, a direct link for the latest version of Adobe Reader is:
    http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3.4/enu/AdbeRdr934_en_US.exe
The following article should help you set it up - [[opening PDF files within Firefox]].

    I can't open pdf files.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?
    Many thanks!

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?
    Windows 8.1 pro.
    thx

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.
