Hi Valerie,
What happens if you try to open the same files after launching Acrobat, by choosing File > Open?
Has anything changed since on your system since you were able to open Acrobat/PDF files by double-clicking?
For starters, please try repairing the Acrobat installation by choosing Help > Repair Acrobat Installation.
Please let us know how it goes.
Best,
Sara

  • Adobe X: Can't open multiple files by double-clicking

I have Adobe Reader version 10.1.0.534 running on Windows XP SP3. Once I have a .pdf file open, I cannot open additional .pdf files by double-clicking on their icon from within a folder or on my Desktop. I can only open them by going through the File>Open dialog in Reader or by dragging the icon onto the open Reader window. I can open the first .pdf file by double-clicking, just not any after that. This behavior is new in Adobe X.
    Does anyone else see this?
Is this by design? If so, why? It seems to be an unneccessary annoyance and a deprecation.
    Thanks

  • OFFICE 2010 can not open EXCEL files by double click, only File Open....

    Hi:
I am using WIN7 ultimate 64 bit and excel 2010 (office 2010 Pro plus).
I can not open any excel file(.xls and .xlsx) with a double click on the file. if I double click on the file, the application launches and excel starts, but no file is loaded and no error message, I have to manually go file open and select the file and
    then it opens correctly...
I have tried every solutions I can find from internet, but none worked....
    1.Repair the office 2010 instalation.------doesn't work.
2.Right-click the file >>Select "Open With" and select [Excel 2010]>> Check always use this program. ------doesn't work.
3.Options>>Advanced>>General section>>unchecked "Ignore Other Applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)".------doesn't work.
    4.Run>> input "Excel /regserver". ------doesn't work.
    5.Create new user profiles.------doesn't work.
6.Delete EXCEL folder under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\".------doesn't work.
Is there any other solutions can fix this problem? Any help are appreciated.

    Hello Yong,
Thanks for posting in our forum. Seems you've already tried lots of things, and I can see that those are all steps that reportedly have worked for others.
Here is one more thing that you might want to have a try:
    Open Registry Editor
Go to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\command
Highlight the key, select the (Default), select "Modify..."
from the pull-down menu and then enter the value below: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\EXCEL.EXE"
    "%1" (include the quote marks)
    Then OK your way out
Please have a try and feel free to post back.

  • CS6 - can't open a file by double-clicking

upgraded to CS6 and now when I double-click on a jpeg or RAW file it will not open. All I get is a greyed-out Photoshop window. I have to go up to the Photoshop Tool Bar and go File > Open > ........ to open the file.

    1. Are you using Windows/ Mac OS?
    2. Check the filetype association to ensure the desired filetype is associated with Photoshop CS6 by default. If you upgraded from CS5 or earlier, you may want to force change your filetype association to Photoshop CS6 once for all filetypes you'd like to open with CS6
    3. Do you have any dialog box (such as Open) open in Photoshop when you try double clicking a file from your explorer/ finder. In this case, Photoshop will not open the file when you doubleclick outside
    4. If the prior solutions don't work, try resetting your Photoshop Preferences by following these instructions: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776

  • Opening a file WITHOUT double-clicking

In Windows one can open a file from Explorer either by double-clicking or by hitting the Return/Enter key.
In Mac OS X I can only open a file by double-clicking it. So far, using the keyboard I can only rename it (when I hit Return), or delete it (if I press Command+Return).
Is there a keyboard shortcut for opening a file? I am a keyboard person and, sometimes, when I navigate from one folder to another, I would like to open the file without moving my hand to get the mouse.

It's Command-o, for open, of course. As you discovered, pressing Return is the handy short-cut to high-light the file for renaming.

  • Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?
    Many thanks!

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?
    Windows 8.1 pro.
    thx

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.

  • I can't open pdf files.  The popup window says to install adobe but when I download adobe it says I already have it

    I can't open pdf files.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave

    Where is this?
