Can't open pdf files-get error message

I'm trying to open pdf files from a CD, but when I do I get this message in Adobe Reader:
"Adobe Reader could not open part1.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has become corrupted."
I've tried other copies of the CD and still have the same problem.
Other things I've tried:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling adobe
-Copying the file to my hard drive
-Making the file not Read-Only
If anyone can help that would be great! Thanks!

That does not look like a valid PDF; it should start with the constant '%PDF'.  If you can find that constant within the first 1024 bytes of the document, then there is hope: see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-error-1015-11001-update.html

If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...
    •Apple - Support - iTunes - install & update:

    Good luck & happy computing!
ps: i see you resolved this issue. it's magic!

  • Can't open Lightroom.  Getting Error message:  Trying to open Lightroom.  Get ERROR message

I can't open my Lightroom.  I keep on getting the message:
Trying to open Lightroom.  Get ERROR message:
Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.
Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches.
    This has happened before.
I also can't get my Plug-ins (like Topaz and onOne) to work within Photoshop CC and Lightroom.
Not the first time this has happened.
    Any suggestions?

I apologize. I should've told you to delete the folder with the same name as your catalog. So you want to delete the folder named Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata.

  • Can't open Indesign file. Error message says I need to upgrade plug-ins?

I created a business card for my husband from my indesign 5.5 version. I haven't upgraded my version since creating the file and for some reason I can't open the file. I get the error message 'Cannot open "Business Card - Ryan.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.'
When I look at the business card file with finder it says it was created with InDesign 5.5. When I view my InDesign application through my finder applications it says I have InDesign 5.5 so I'm not sure why this error message is saying to upgrade my version of InDesign.

I wish I had a dollar for every person who claimed there was no way a file was saved in a later version only to find out it was.
If you post a link to it someone here will save it back for you.

  • How do I password protect a pdf file - getting error messages?

I'm trying to protect a pdf file (i.e. a tax return printed to PDF) with password to open and password to modify. However I'm getting an error message in a pop up window saying..."The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save document with a different name, or in a different folder." I'm using WIN 8.1. and I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI (student / teacher version). This is a standalone PC so I can't imaging someone else is using this file. Also I've tried renaming and saving to a different folder (from the folder the original file is saved). I've also looked at properties of the PDF file and its not tagged as read only. Please advise if I'm missing something. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for responding...I'm getting the same message that I got at first..."The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save document with a different name, or in a different folder."
The next day I emailed the file to my work PC and encrypted it with no problems. I have WIN 7 and am using Acrobat 8.0 there. So the problem seems to be with my new PC here at home (i.e. WIN 8.1 and Acrobat XI). Frustrating. I'm betting its some obscure setting in WIN or Acrobat, that is way over my head. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks again.

  • Can Not Open PDF? See error message

This document could not be imported. Its file type is either

I get that error message everytime I try to open a PDF and
when I try to open a few different word docs. Why is this?

    Hi Pete,
Thanks for getting back to me. I will start off by saying I
am a moron when it comes to PDF files. I had a reader for pdf files
on my computer and thinking I didn't need it anymore I deleted it.
Well to make a long story shorter, when I realized I did need it I
tried to download it again. I got buzzword. which I thought is what
I was supposed to have. I guess this isn't what I need, so how do I
    get the old reader back?
The word docs I tried to open were ext ending in .doc. I just
want to open and print them, not edit them. I don't know what
program wrote it, as I did not write it. I don't have word on my
computer, I mainly use notebook or word pad to do anything of that
type. I am mainly a part time photographer and use my computer for
editing photos and emails. Now I am trying to get freelance work
and apparently there are all kinds of forms and PDF crap I now have
to deal with. SOoooo..... that's it. any help you can offer as to
how to get my PDF reader back would be appreciated!
    Thanks again
    Susan

Can't open PDF file from iBook on MAC. error "The application “ACDSee Pro” can’t be opened."

    Hi arewers,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

Hi.  I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 64 bit.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader,  It worked yesterday.  Today I have job training to do that is due tomorrow morning and I can't open PDF files.  I have to open a guide and read it and take a test tomorrow.  I have deleted and reinstalled the application.  I have rebooted.  I have made sure my PDF's are associated with the program.  Every PDF on my computer won't open and I get the same error message.  It simply says Attempt to access invalid address.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

  • Adobe Reader XI - Can't open PDF files

My mother has Adobe Reader XI installed on her laptop and still can't open PDF files. We've tried uninstalling and installing several different versions and nothing seems to work. Can someone please help? Thank you.
