Can't Open PDF in Windows Live Mail

I am having trouble opening a PDF file in Windows Live Mail that is sent to me. I can only open it if I save the file to desktop. I was able to open it just fine awhile ago. I don't know what I may have done. Can someone please help me.
Thanks
Mark

I guess I should have explained it better. If someone sends me a PDF as an attachment, I can click on the PDF in Windows Live Mail but the PDF will not open. I tried uninstalling Adobe Reader and then re-installing but had no luck as well. If I right click the PDF and then click "save as" then I can open it after I save it to my desktop or whereever. Hope you or someone can help me.
Thanks
Mark

  • Reader opens and closes immediately by itself when try to open PDF from windows live mail or browser

    Hi,
I'm having problems with acrobat xi since installing it on my windows 7 computer.
Every time I try to open up a pdf file from windows live mail or a browser.. it opens and closes immediately.  The only way I can view it is if I save the file onto the computer, open up acrobat reader first then open up the file in there.
How do I make it work properly again please?
I've tried several things  so far like..
-Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
-Disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
    Please help me.  Thanks.

How can I tell which one it is exactly?  I think it is Acrobat Reader.. 11.0.10...
I can only open up a PDF if I save it to my computer and then open up the Acrobat program then open up a file using file > open.
But if I try and view a pdf from an email attachment in Windows Live Mail.. or from a browser... it will open and close immediately.
How do I fix this please?  thanks.

  • I would like firefox to open links in windows live mail.

I want Firefox to open links I click on in windows live mail 2011 instead of internet explorer

This happened to me when I installed 4.0 BETA. I un-installed BETA as I didn't like it. I then used 3.6 but the links opened with Internet Explorer. I re-installed 3.6 and it's now working fine so I would suggest re-installing whatever version you have.

  • Can you use Hotmail or Windows Live mail on iPhone?

Is it possible to use Windows Live mail or hotmail on an iphone?

Yes, you can. See this link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930008
It is applied for Outlook, but it works on the IPhone mail too.
    a. Make sure that the E-mail Address field contains the correct account name.
    b. Verify that the User Name and Password fields contain the correct information. The User Name field should contain your complete e-mail address.
    c. Make sure that the Incoming mail server (POP3) field contains pop3.live.com.
    d. Make sure that the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field contains smtp.live.com .
    e. Click More Settings.
    f. On the Outgoing Server tab, make sure that My Server Requires Authentication and Use Same Settings as My Incoming Mail Server are selected.
    g. Click the Advanced tab.
    h. Make sure that both the boxes that indicate This server requires a secure connection (SSL) are selected. Make sure that Incoming mail port is set to 995 and Outgoing mail port is set to 25 .
    i. Click OK.
    j. Make any other changes that you want.
    k. Click Next, and then click Finish.

  • Can't open pdf in windows 7

    hi folks, i need help.
i got a new computer, windows 7, 64bits.  i installed adobe reader xi, but when i tried to open pdf file, there is a system error, can't opened and stopped to work.  i tried to uninstalled and re-installed; also installed version x, but same issues here.
system showed that there is "APPCRASH".  however, i can view pdf file via internet, IE and chrome.
i didn't installed too many programs / software in my new computer, just office 2007, avg free version, chrome, and some kind of chinese hand-writing program.
anyone can help and advise some solutions to me please?  thanks all.

thank you mike.  i tried to follow your shared link to unisntall and re-install the software.

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

  • Can't open PDF attachment in e-mail sent from Outlook, says I need to save first, how?

Cannot open PDF attachment in webmail sent from Outlook, says I need to save first; how do I save the link?

Looks like another user asked similar question with over 600 views and no replies ... hmmm.  When I click on the attachment, it says I must save it to my disk; with one button mouse just click once and save?  I've tried dragging and saving the attachment to word doc but opened up with a page of garbled words/symbols,etc.  Any ideas are welcome.

  • Can't open pdf attachment in Yahoo Mail. Worked in 25.0 not 25.0.1. Still works with IE.

Clicking on a pdf attachment in AT&T/Yahoo Mail results in "a file was downloaded". Used to open the file in Firefox 25.0 and prior. Switching to IE I can click on the attachment and it opens. Seems it could be something in 25.0.1. I cleared my history (cache, cookies) but this did not fix the problem. I disabled the pdf viewed and that didn't help either.

i'm not sure as to what exactly is going on, but it looks like yahoo has changed something on their server that makes certain old url formats dysfunctional - at least quite a number of other users have reported that... so if you have a bookmark for yahoo mail, change its address to the generic https://mail.yahoo.com/, which should redirect you to the current & working url

  • Can't open .pdf attachment to e-mail

After straightening out the conflict between Reader & Acrobat (deleted Reader per suggestion on this forum), I now have a new problem.  When I double click a .pdf attachment to an e-mail (I use Thunderbird), I get the following message:
"C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ADOBE.pdf could not be opened because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences."
I went to Preferences of Acrobat 9 std but couldn't find anything that seemed to relate to a helper application.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Turns out I found a note from Mozilla when this was a problem with
reader that said to simply delete that preference for acrobat.  Then,
when I click to open the .pdf file, Thunderbird asks me if I want to use
Acrobat 9.1 and has a box to click to enable this to occur every time.
    It worked.
If anyone else encounters this, here's the website containing the
solution for both Firefox & Thunderbird.

  • Can't add Windows Live Mail store folder, as per l...

I used to be able to backup my Outlook Express store folder (on XP) to have an up to date copy of my email, but for some reason I can't do this with Windows Live Mail in Windows 7.
    C:\USERS\logon\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPDATA\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS LIVE MAIL
    (where logon is the user)
When I try to do this using the Add Folder option, it doesn't calculate how much space is required or anything. I navigate to the location and click on the folder, but it simply reverts to the windows that has the <add folder> button.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks..........ebt

You can't back up pst files to BT Cloud as they are dynamic, i.e. constantly being updated.
The same will apply to the Windows Live Mail folder.
You will have to either export it to a static type of file or a zipped file.
There is a section referring to this in the BT Cloud Help. I can't find the exact link but you can do a search, or someone may post the exact link.
    https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=backing+up+pst+files+to+bt+cloud
The above will take you to the link....I hope.
    Hope this explains the situation.

    Hello jmcleod,
I see that you are having a problem with opening attachments in Windows live mail. Since the issue is only happening in Windows live it is most likely an issue with the program.
How long have you been having the problem?
Do you get any kind of error message when you try and open an attachment?
Has there been any changes recently to your computer? (Updates, new programs, pop-ups)

  • When opening pdfs with windows explorer I get "fatal error unable to connect to dde server"

I can't open pdfs using windows explorer. I double click, nothing happens, and after ten minutes I get the error message "fatal error Acrobat failed to connect to DDE server."
I can however open the file if I open it in acrobat, although it is very slow.
I always download the latest version of acrobat indeed did so last week. I'm on windows 7. I've had acrobat for many years on this machine and OS and never had this problem.

    Hey Eric,
I’d suggest you to uninstall Adobe Reader XI using this cleaning tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs and re-install Adobe Reader using this link Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions to fix the issue.
Re-install the program in administrator mode. Locate the program icon, right-click and select as “Run as administrator”.
Let me know if the issue persist.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • Pdf files wil not open under Windows Live Mail

PDF Files will not open in WIndows Live Mail. I deinstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled a more recent version but to no avail. It will open very well using WIndows explorer or when opening the reader. Any clues someone?

WLM is version 2009 14.0.8117.0416. I'm running under Vista and all other more recent versions are not compatible. The file association has been made and I can open all pdf files in Windows explorer. Under Outlook mail it works as well. It worked until recently when I loaded a program that was supposed to convert pdf files to Word but that did not work so I had to deinstall it and redo the file association. It worked everywher except in WLM.
