Can't open PDF with open with (choose illustrator)

Hi!
We have another small problem . The person that use the Adobe Illustrator want to right click on a PDf file, go to open with and choose Illustrator, but it's not in the list. If I try to add it, it doesn't show.
How can I get that PDF file open with illustrator instead of opening illustrator then open the PDF?
Thanks!
Christian

I'm a bit confused by your answer.
Steve's reply was for a Mac. But you talk of the Start Menu and from your other post it appears you are on Windows. I didn't know it was possible to drag a file onto the Start Menu to open it. Doesn't work for me in Vista.
Regardless, in either OS, you should be able to right click and assign a program.
In Vista I right-clicked a PDF, chose Choose Default Program, then Browse, found Photoshop, and hit Open. The PDF opened in Photoshop and now when I right click a PDF I see Photoshop is in the list of candidates (it wasn't before). It isn't the default though, because even though I went through Choose Default, I didn't every actually assign a new default.

  • How to open PDFs by default with Adobe Reader?

    Hi everybody!!
I used to have Adobe Acrobat but I don't have it any more.
When I had Acrobat the PDFs in my sistem and the PDFs in the web were opened without problems by Acrobat but now I just have Adobe Reader (not Acrobat) and the PDFs in my sistem and on the web are not opened and can't read them...
Even the PDFs in my sistem don't show the PDF icon as when I had Acrobat installed.
What could I do to be able to open PDFs by default with my Adobe Reader?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Right click on a PDF file and select Open with, then select the Always open with button. Search for Adobe Reader and go from there. This is an OS feature, not a Reader feature. For further questions about Reader, check the Reader forum.

  • Difference between opening PDF within IE with pressing SHIFT key and without SHIFT key

    Hi,
I want to know when we open a PDF file within Internet Explorer it is using ActiveX control AcroPDF.dll behind the scene.
Now If I open PDF within IE with keep pressing SHIFT key the behavior is different then without pressing SHIFT key?
Is AcroPDF.dll behaves differently in this situation?
    Thanks,
    Twinkle

I've saved two files on my desktop:
    f1040.pdf - downloaded from www.irs.gov - 187 KB
    afmod07.2.1g.pdf - downloaded from my intranet - 1,04MB
I've powered off my PC and restarted for each file. I've opened files with double-click on them. I've encountered the same problem, when double-clicked on files in task manager two Acrord32.exe appeared, the PC was doing anything for about 10 second, after that I've encountered no activity in task manager (numbers not vary) for other 10 seconds (like freeze) and after that other about 10 seconds of loading. So after about 30 seconds the file opens with stand-alone Acrobat Reader (11.0.10).
If I retry now (after the first slow startup "of the day") the file opens in 2-3 seconds.
    So:
    - first open of the day or rebooting PC: 30-45 seconds
    - second open of the file: 2-3 seconds
This is happening only with PDFs with forms.
    Yuri

Not there? Maybe you didn't download it, or you downloaded but did not install it.

That choice is not made by Adobe, but your browser, of which you give no details. 64-bit browsers cannot open PDF files, as the Adobe Reader plugin is a 32-bit app.

  • How can i open pdf on safari with reader 11,0,07

i've got Imac with OSX 10,9,4 and adobe reader 11,0,07.
i can't read pdf on website.
i've got this error message :
Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement.
but i don't know where i can accept the licene and there is no support for reader 11.
if you have got a solution...

Did you open Adobe Reader on it's own (not through the browser)? If not, you can find it in your applications folder where all your other programs live. Launch it and accept the EULA.

  • Can't open PDFs in Netscape with Ver. 7.

I had Reader ver 7 for some time. I am using Netscape ver 7. Awhile back I succumbed to the nag notices and downloaded and installed Reader ver 9. Ver 9 caused problems so I uninstalled it and did a system restore to recover ver 7. Now I can't open pdfs from within the Reader window in Netscape. At first Netscape wouldn't even open Reader but I was able to correct that. However, now it will open Reader in a separate window but locks up whenever I try to download a pdf. I have XP Sp3. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

Right or control click a PDF file you have saved on the hard drive then click:  Get Ino
In the Get Info window you'll see: Open with
Select Preview from the pop up menu.

  • Opening pdf from harddisk with link

Can i set a link to a pdf-file on my harddisk in my keynote presentation? or to another document?
I am sure this question has been answered a thousand times, but i couldnt find it. sorry.

No, you can't. Well, I should say not in an easy user friendly way. Keynote allows you to link via http: which then opens Safari so if you turn on web sharing, point the http: link to localhost and your sites directory and place a file there then Safari would pop up, download the file then Preview would pop up and....
whew! This IS easier in PowerPoint because it allows direct linking to documents, Keynote doesn't. You CAN have the pdf's already open before starting your presentation and then view them that way. A little more elegant than the above.
Another question, is this meant to be a kiosk type thing for people to play around with or are you using the PDF in the presentation?

  • Cannot open PDFs in Mail with Mavericks

When I get emails containing PDFs in Mavericks, I can see the PDF in the context of the message, but there is no indication that there are any attachments, no way to save them to a location, and I cannot even click on them in the message to get them to open in anything.
The only workaround I have found is to double-click the entire message, so that it opens in a separate window. Then if I mouse over the upper margin of the message in the center of the top bar, a little oblong radio button appears, giving me the option to forward it, trash it, or save it.
Double clicking within the message does nothing.

Actually, I realize that the little pop-up radio buttons appear in the original message as well, when you mouse over the fine line that separates the heading from the body of the message.
Too bad that information isn't explained with the What's new in Mavericks information online.

  • Cannot open PDF files online with Firefox 4, help suggests foxit but don't know what that is?

Earlier versions of Firefox allowed me to open PDF files online, without downloading. Firefox 4 does not allow me to open and read PDF files online, but requires downloading to computer.
Help suggest altering settings in FOXIT READER, manually, but I don't know how to access Foxit reader, if I have it.
Can I alter settings in Firefox 4, or do I have to go back to earlier version.
    Thanks

I was under the impression Foxit was a pdf viewer rather than an addon for Firefox, but maybe there is more than one application with a similar name.
I did not notice mention of foxit in the help, but add-ons are not always mentioned.

  • FF 19 for Mac. changed preferences to open PDFs with Acrobat Reader. Now when I click on a pdf link, an about:blank FF window opens (pdf then opens)

The change in preferences opens the pdf appropriately with Acrobat Reader, as desired, but before it does, FF opens a brand new blank window (about:blank). How can that action be stopped?

Yes, I mean the eternal application.
Ctrl-click does open the dialog, but that does not cause new/blank FF window to show up.....however shift-click opens the new/blank window, then opens another FF window with a "New Tab" heading, then opens the pdf with Acrobat Reader.....
If open the dialog and select "open in new tab" (open in Acrobat Reader is not an option), a new tab is opened, and the the pdf come up in Reader (without opening a new FF window). In earlier FF, it just opened directly in Reader (or acrobat) without opening a new tab or window.
    Thanks

  • Safari is not opening pdf's anymore with preview. Help!

    Hello,
Can anyone help me to get safari to open pdf's using preview again?
I installed adobe reader and it seems to have highjacked safari and now is the default pdf viewer for pdf's opened in safari while browsing on the web.
Things I have tried so far....
I tried uninstalling adobe to no avail. When I uninstalled it and then tried to open a pdf in safari I found that I wasn't able to
I tried going to library/internet plug-ins to find and delete any adobe plug-ins but found none to be deleted.
I have tried going to adobe reader/preferences/internet to unselect anything there taht would "turn off" but that didn't work.
Any Ideas, please help! I don't like the adobe reader experience nearly as much as preview.
    I am running OS X 10.8.3
    Safari 6.0.3
    Thanks so much

Never Mind I found the solution....
Entered my main disk by double clicking and opening Macintosh HD found on my desktop. From there to Library/Internet Plug-Ins. In the Internet Plug-Ins folder I deleted all adobe reader plugins. I also deleted adobe reader app from my harddrive. Once I quit and re-opened safari all was working as it was before.
    I won't install Adobe again!
Hope that this would help someone with the same issue.

  • Firefox is unable to open pdf files even with adobe reader

i am unable to open pdf documents with firefox . i have installed latest version of adobe reader for firefox but still i am having problem. older versions of mozilla do not have this problem

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] If it functions correctly, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • Opening pdf files encrypted with private *.p12 key (ANDROID)

    Hi,
I was curious if acrobat reader will be equipped with this functionality?
I have secured pdf files signed with private *.p12 certificate key.
I have installed certificate in Android settings, but I still pdf files won't open. It's says this functionality is not supported.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? This is SHA 256 something. In other pdf readers it says secured with "adobe.pubsec"
Please respond,  I'll provide any details You want.

Currently we are not supporting this functionality with Reader on Android.
We have noted down your request and will try to incorporate the same in future releases.
    Thanks,
    Adobe Reader Team
