Can't open pdfs all of a sudden

Have Windows XP.
Have Adobe Reader 10.1.3
Have never had any issues with .pdfs
TODAY I can't open one sent in an email. So I sent it to another worker (same server) who opened it with no problem.
I get an error message when I try to open anything (just saying Adobe failed to open)
Can't open it if I save it to desktop.
Can't open it if I save it to the network.
Then I checked older pdfs and can't open them either.
Uninstalled and reinstalled from adobe website.
Can't open up from within the program either.
The actual program will open if I click on it - but that's it.
Any ideas?

  • I can't open iTunes all of a sudden... no problem before!

I tried to open iTunes the other day and the message "iTunes requires Mac OSX 10.4.7 or later". My OS is 10.4.6 but I never had a problem before- why now all of a sudden it wont let me in? What can I do to resolve this? Within the past few weeks I got an iPod nano and hooked it in- could this have anything to do with it?

thanks for the link ... i did do this (more than once) but ...?!? so i am currently doing the update again .... i will see what happens .... i noticed though that the downloading is occurring (like before)and it shows the bar on the bottom of the box the # of MB (...right now "241 MB out of 304 MB--about 8 minutes to go").
... but i did notice that the previous time there was no indication of it being finished with another box saying..."update complete".... so we will see in a few minutes...
...by the way, i appreciate your help....

  • Can't open PhotoshopCS4Extended all of a sudden

Suddenly it won't open when I click on any button or link; and I can't find the exe. file in my program files.  So here's my question:  I have the install disc I bought a couple of years ago.  If I take the scary step of uninstalling CS4 from my computer will I be able to reinstall from my disc or is it only good for one initial install?  Or, will I have to have an authorization # or something?
Thanks so much for your invaluable help!

File loss isn't something to be glossed over...
Have you been doing things in Windows Explorer near the C:\Program Files\Adobe... area?  Sometimes subfolders get dragged to folders next door accidentally.  Usually the recovery from this is just to drag them back to the right place.
You really do need to explain why files would suddenly go missing on your computer before trying to recover from the failure, or you just chance losing more.
Once you understand what happened, your best bet would be to recover the files directly if at all possible.  Do you have backups?
In answer to your question, if you do have to reinstall you may well be able to activate again without trouble on the same computer, but you will have to call Adobe if you can't.  Usually they'll fix you right up.  There's no limitation to the number of times you can reinstall from the same disc.

  • Suddenly Can't Open PDFs. Starting about three days ago firefox will no longer open any PDFs. I get a blank page in a new tab.

Suddenly Can't Open PDFs in Firefox. Starting about three days ago firefox will no longer open any PDFs. I get a blank page in a new tab. Nice timing, with finals and everything where I need to view PDFs of practice tests.

Mozilla Firefox did not do their job, here. I am an editor and am constantly online. Now, I have to go to Safari to download PDFs. I reinstalled an earlier version of Firefox to get rid of the problem, but somehow Firefox has deactivated my PDF download feature. This is a total wreck and I am so angry I could spit. Stop launching new products until you have fully tested them. Customers are not your guinea pigs. Please fix this now- and fire a few idiots on the way- the ones who let this happen.

  • Suddenly can't open PDF's

I am running Windows Vista and have never previously had a problem opening PDFs.  I updated something from Adobe and now I can't open PDF's.  I've uninstalled, reinstalled the old version, gone back to the new version, run repair and nothing changes.  Every time I click on a PDF I get a message saying : "There is a problem with Adobe/Acrobat Reader.  If it is running, please exit and try again (1:1)"
    Can anyone help?

1, Please post in the future in the Acrobat folder. This is the for Distiller Server forum.
    2. There is nothing wrong with your copy of Distiller.
    3. The content of your pdf file is that complicated. If you don't need the detail it is providing you can try rasterizing the pdf file.

  • Can't open PDFs in Firefox

All of a sudden I can't open PDFs on my website when using Firefox, works in IE though - any idea?

In firefox you need to check two things:
    1) Make sure an application has been associated with the pdf files.  To do this try this:
    Tools >> Options >> Applications
The first item should be Adobe Acrobate document.  Click on the Actions Column to open a drop down list.  Now select the default program for your documents.
    2) you also need to check whether the scripts are enabled in the browser.  To do this try the following:
    Tools >> Options >> Content
Now Check on "Enable JavaScript"  this is the third item on the list.
Now click on Advanced Button on the right hand side.
Make sure all three items are ticked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't open PDFs in any viewer but Quicklook works

All of a sudden I can't open PDFs in Acrobat, Preview or PDF Pen. They display fine in Quicklook, though. I can't recall anything that changed that would cause this. Ideas?

    Highlight your file>File>Get Info>
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
Unselect the "Change All..." button if you want to "Use this application to open all documents like this.”

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.

I can not open PDF files in safari. How can I fix this problem?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Can't open pdf items in safari, and can't get adobe reader installed/working

can't open pdf documents/can't download and open adobe reader on imac

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 4
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 5
Do as in Step 3 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • I can't open PDF's from websites!!!!

Please, I need help! So, I went to attesting.com and was having issues purchasing something from them, so I went to there technical requirements and uploaded their link for Adobe Acrobat Read X. I have a MAC version 10.9.4. It seemed everything was ok. Then I went to my school's website to print a form which is in PDF form and I get this ADOBE LOCKED THIS PDF. or something like that. It doesn't say it now. Now, when I try to open a PDF from a website it says BEFORE VIEWING PDF DOCUMENTS IN THIS BROWSER YOU MUST LAUNCHADOBE READER AND ACCEPT THE END USER AGREEMENT, THEN QUIT, AND RELAUNCH THE BROWSER. So, I've un-installed Adobe and reinstalled Adobe numerous times and I STILL CANNOT GET MY PDF's. I've NEVER had any issue before. Can anyone please help!?!?! I tried contacting Adobe and chatted with someone online and he said that he doesn't help support this issue since it's not something I've paid for. I'm so frustrated and mad! ugh! Any suggestions is much appreciated!

And I've also just realized I can't open PDF's at all. Tried exporting on of the PDF forms from my school website to my desktop and it won't open from my desktop either. It's saying it's empty.
