Can't open photos

after I've imported photos from my camera into Lightroom & put certain ones in a file to put on a flash drive, I am unable to open my own photos again. Adobe claims that my serial number is invalid but it is the one right there on the computer

Hi there,
I would first do this, drag photos to your desktop if possible. and then just click on them and I believe they will open in Preview.
You can always import into iPhoto by dragging them to icon or using the import function in iPhoto...

  • Can't open photos in edit mode

I can;t open photos in edit mode in iPhoto '08. When I double click on a photo the main window remains blank (no "!" no"?"). This problem occurs with every photo in the library. My permissions are OK. I've also tried setting the preferences to edit in Photoshop but double clicking on the photos then still accomplishes nothing.

    Steve:
Do you get a blank white window in the edit mode? If so that may mean you do not have access to the files. Try the following:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    FYI:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Hi joolyjools,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are getting an alert that informs you to reinstall iTunes on your computer and you are concerned for your music and apps. If you delete iTunes and reinstall fresh you shouldn’t lose any content from the iTunes Library because the content is not actually stored in the iTunes program. The following article will assist you uninstalling iTunes and its components. After the uninstall, make sure to restart your computer and then you can download iTunes fresh from the Apple website.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    I hope this helps,

  • Can't open Photos library, and how to fix it?

I successfully migrated from iPhoto library to this new Photos Library in April.17th, and everything seems okay except for some minor bugs.
but from yesterday on, I started Photos and got this message "Can't open Photos Library, try another."
If I try reading iPhoto or Aperture Library. Photos started migration from iPhoto or Aperture Library process again.
So, In short, the newly migrated default library can't be read by Photos.
Recently I did some import from cameras and a newly bought Gopro, and MAYBE A HINT, when I connected Gopro to Mac, Photos automactically opened up its window and tried to import videos but only left me a permanent freezing, so I did forced close to Photos...maybe at that time the library was damaged...
Please...Is there any method to recover or rebuild the damaged library? I really don't want to re-immigrate from iPhotos library. Do Photos get any build-in fix tools or alike?

try to backup your photos library and hold down the option and command keys while launching Photos - repair the library

  • You can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use the latest version of iphoto

you can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use latest version of iphoto. iphoto 11 is installed.

This is a message you got?
If so, as your post isn't clear, it may be a bogus message caused by a corrupt database.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • I have an iPhone 5S and I can't open photos that are emailed to me. It just says zip archive when I click on the jpg. Help?

I Have an iPhone 5S and I can't open photos that emailed to me. It just says Zip archive when I click on the JPG file to download it.  Help?

whoever is emailing you the photos is sending them as a .zip file not a .jpg most likely because there is more than one photo. unfortunately iPhone does not have a .zip file reader so whoever is emailing the photos has to make sure they are not zip ing them and resend them as .jpg files. (usually gmail tries to convert several images into .zip files)

Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore all photos on iPhoto on Macbookair?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Can't open photo attachments from Gmail through Safari - Ipad2 ios7.1

    I have an ipad2, running ios7.1
If I try to open a photo attachment from www.gmail.com (in Safari, not Mail app) it causes my ipad to hang.
Here's what happens for a 2mb test jpg I just sent myself:
    1. Open email in Safari
    2. Click on the thumbnail or photo.jpg hyperlink at bottom of message
    3. A new tab opens in sarari, pointing to mail-attachment.googleusecontent.com
    4. The progress bar moves between 30 to 70 % of the way across and then hangs. It never fully loads
    5. The ipad is no longer responsive, you can't close safari
    6. All other apps hang or become super slow
This is very frustrating and I regret updating to the latest ios. I've tried restarting and cleaning my cache/history etc and it makes no difference to the problem.
    What's the fix please? Thanks

Thanks, but doesn't really help the situation, which is that safari can't open my pictures for some reason. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

  • Can't open photos after carbonite restore

I just did a Carbonite restore on my recently fixed iMac. I got a new hardrive and the guys who fixed my computer upgraded me to OSX Lion (I had Leopard before). My photos will not open in the newest version of iPhoto 11. iPhoto will not even launch, saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto". When I click upgrade, it says "iPhoto is unable to open this library"
I understand that my photos from my previous iPhoto 8 are not readable on iPhoto11. Carbonite can't help me with this as they say it's due to the upgrade. I'm beyond frustrated, especially after how long it took to restore the photos back onto my computer.
I can see that all my photos are on my computer and thought about trying to fix all this manually, but I'm not sure how to even proceed as I can't open up the iPhoto program. And I'm worried about messing anything up by poking around.
Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!

You'll need to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

  • Can't open photos from later version....

    Hi-
I have a mini at home and a G4 at work. I burned a DVD with photos @ home and when I try to open them at work it says that they were created with a newer version of iPhoto. I understand this part but my question is....is the only way to get the newest version is to buy iLife? I'm assuming this came on my nini and that's what's giving me the trouble. I'm not sure what version I'm running at home as it's....at home!
    Thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi Paul,
The only way to get the newest version is to buy iLife 6.
You can export the photos from the mini and burn them, then import to the G4.
    Use the following method.

  • Can't open photos in Camera Raw from Lightroom

    Hi!
I used to open my (RAW) photos from Lightroom (2) into Camera Raw - it did it automatically when I clicked "edit in photoshop". Now it doesn't work anymore, and I have no idea why - it opens the pictures directly into Photoshop (CS4).
However, it works from the finder and from Bridge. Any idea what I should do to get that functionality back? I know some of you will say I should just develop my RAWs into LR, but I prefer Camera Raw and would love to get that option back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    1. I'm shouting because you don't seem to be hearing me when I'm speaking normally.
I (and others) are hearing. And we are offering what we can.  You're
just not accepting it, in the spirit given, even if it's not what you
    had hoped to hear.
    2. I DO want to open CR. What I'm trying to accomplish is NOT to edit several pictures at once, but to open CR from Lightroom.
So ... you don't really care about editing multiple pictures; you only
    care about using CR?
Even if I can edit multiple photos in LR, I will continue to use CR, by opening my pictures from the finder or from Bridge (which
    >I've been doing all week). I'm not trying to be hardheaded, I just like my workflow the way it is, and I made that clear in the
    >question to specifically avoid people coming around and telling me "oh but you can do this from LR". I don't care. I don't WANT to
    >do it from LR. Otherwise my question would have been "how do I do this from LR"!!
Yes, we all got your preference (repeatedly). What you don't seem to
get is the fact that - even if you can't get what you want (i.e.,
using CR), you can still edit multiple pictures. Isn't doing that
the most important element?  That you get your photos to look how
want/need them? Or your client wants/needs them, whichever? Or is the
most important thing to use a specific program?
Having a fallback plan to accomplish what you need (i.e., editing
multiple pictures) is key. Any fallback plan will be more unpleasant
    than you first preference.
Suppose the answer had been "Nope; no way to do that using CR. None at
all" ... would you then not have edited those photos some other way?
Or would you simply have abandoned your images, since you couldn't get
your first preference (CR) to work the way you wanted?
My question was clearly "how do I open my files from LR into CR". Anybody who's responding anything else than "this is how
    >you open your photos from LR into CR" or "you can't do that anymore" is just here for attention, not to help me. I would
    >understand and appreciate the impulse to show me a new workflow if I hadn't SPECIFICALLY SAID IN MY QUESTION NOT TO
    >DO THAT.
    >
How can you not understand how frustrating that is?
I can. I can also understand how you sound, when you didn't get what
exactly you wanted, which you can't seem to understand.
Regardless, others have given you insight into how to let you use CR
(or other areas to explore, anyway), which (according to you) is what
you care about. So good luck with that, and I hope you find a final
solution that makes you happy. CR is an amazing program.

  • Can't open Photos in Finder

I cannot open my photos in finder...
because I can't open them in finder, I can't open them with any other program.
Any ideas as to why, or how I can fix this?
    Thank you!

    Kelsey
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There is no version of iPhoto were it was recommended that you access the files via the Finder. On the contrary, each version has recommended that users do not access the iPhoto Library Folder. There are no user serviceable parts there.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Any of these are a:faster and b: safer than rooting through the Finder.
Remember: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
