Can't open photoshop 4.0 power pc apps no longer supported

is there a work around?

No, sorry. 10.7 won't let you run any PPC apps. If you need PPC apps, don't upgrade to lion. There was plenty of publicity about this ahead of time.

?  Why does my Photoshop PS2 open on my Mac Book Pro OS 10.6.8 Intel Core 2 Processor but not on my just purchased Mac Book Pro OS 10.7.3? I don't have a Power PC on either machine and this App does run on the older machine with an Intel processor. benrusy

This is not new.  The fact that Mac OS no longer supports PowerPC applications starting with OS X Lion has been known for over a year now.  You'll need to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Use the Finder "Go" menu while holding down the option key to expose your User / Library folder.
Look in the Application Support folder for PACE items and delete them.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • "you can't open application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"  continually appearing on my screen

I have an iMac with Lion 10.7.4 and tonight I tried to download and install a Maxstor drive from the internet, since then the following notice has appeared on my screen at approximately 6 second intervals.  “you can’t open application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported”  I have removed the Maxtor manager via the waste basket but the notices keep appearing.  Is there a way for me to stop these as they make my iMac virtually unusable or is this a virus?

none of the above worked for me....this worked after hours of messing around with Libraries, deleting things, etc.
Absolutely frustrated by the same problem, just lost 3 hours of my day trying to uninstall after getting the same error message. The ONLY thing that worked for me was going to the following Maxtor (Seagate) URL:
    http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/199931en
I downloaded their "remove maxtor sw.zip" file
Click here to download the remove_maxtor_sw.zip file and store it on your system's desktop.
And it worked perfectly. Took 10 seconds and - after restarting - it was done.
What a waste of the day!!!

  • I am running OSX 10.9.3 and my Word won't open. It says power pc is not longer supported. What is going on?

I am running OSX 10.9.3 and suddenly my Word program won't open. An error message comes up saying that Power PC applications are no longer supported. What is going on?

that means you have a very old version of MS Office ('04)?.  It can not run on any version of OS X higher than 10.6.8.  You need a more current version, can look at iWork, or try a free program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

  • New MacPro 10.9.4 included Keynote. Worked fine. An update was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update and now get error message "You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Any ideas?

New MacPro 10.9.4 purchased three weeks ago included Keynote. App worked fine. New update for Keynote was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update. Tried to launch app and now get error message "You can’t open the application “Keynote.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Confused as to why it worked prior to update. Nothing else has changed. No issues with recent iMovie, Pages or Numbers updates. Any ideas?

    I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder.  Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
    An Aperture "Hang" report
    xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
    quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your  precious photos.

  • You can't open the application NotificationExecbecause PowerPC applications are no longer supported

I have Lion on my mac and I've tried to install an application for an external Maxtor hard drive.
But it seems to be compatable only with previous Operating Systems because now every 5 seconds I get the popup
"You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".
I have deleted all the applications of the external hard drive from the Applications folder, and from the trash as well.
But it doesn't help because the message is continuing to pop-up.
    Thank you for your help.

I had already formatted the external Maxtor external hard drive but it didn't help because the problem came when after formatting I tried to install an application (belonging to Maxtor) to the MacBook. The application was meant for an operating system previous to Lion.
The solution is to remove everything belonging to Maxtor from your Mac.
I deleted the Maxtor application from the Applications folder, but it wasn't enough. After struggling in google I found this solution and it worked!
    HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
First remove all the Maxtor applications you've installed from the Applications folder (just trash them and empty the trash).
Then go to Finder and from Macintosh HD -> Library -> Driver Support -> DELETE THE MAXTOR APPS YOU FIND IN THIS FOLDER AND EMPTY THE TRASH !
But the Library folder is hidden, so if you don't know how to find it (I don't remember exactly because I did it at 1 am at night in the desperation after looking for the solutions in many forums for hours) you can go to Help and write library, then from All Help -> what is the Library folder? and there it is explained!
    Now you are free!!!

  • Finder can't open an application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported

Hello, i've got a really strange error when I open Finder, it says The application Finder can't open because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I have no idea why it does this suddenly... any idea ?

Well, the only thing I did was installing the update of Mac OSX 10.7.4...
And just after that, my Finder can't open anymore :/
I had Lion before that and Finder worked correctly.
Actually, I had a little problem during the installation of the update, it was stuck at the end of the progression for hours... I shut down the computer and turned it on again, and there wasn't any problem there, until my problem with Finder.
That might be the problem. But this isn't the first time my Macbook can't install correctly the updates.. Is there a way to reinstall the update ? It is marked as installed, so I don't know what to do here.
    Thank you for your participation

  • Mountain Lion- Power PC App no longer supported

Just downloaded Mountain Lion.  Got message cannot open Quicken.  Power PC App are not longer supported.  What happened?  Need Quicken.  Please help.

Just so all of the pertinent information is posted here for others with the same problem:
Intuit released Quicken Essentials some years ago, which is written for Intel and hence will work on Lion/Mountain Lion.  However, most Quicken users are very unhappy with the limited features offered in Quicken Essentials.  Normally the Genuis Bar advisors would be correct to advise users to update to the latest version of a software package.  Howerver, in the case of Quicken, it is a mistake; and one they are not likely to be aware of.
Users of Quicken 2005, 2006 & Quicken 2007, can now purchase for $15 from Intuit Quicken 2007 for Lion (which also works with Mountain Lion) and it will work from day one with your existing data file:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
Users of Quicken 2004 and earlier must use the PowerPC version of Quicken 2006 or 2007 to first update their data files and then they can use Quicken 2007 for Lion.  Obviously the PPC versions of Quicken 2006 or 2007 will NOT run in Lion or Mountain Lion, as is, so you must either update these data files BEFORE you update to Lion/Mountain Lion or find a way to run this PPC program in Snow Leopard (alternative computer, dual-boot into Snow Leopard or Snow Leopard installed in Parallels 7 in Lion).
Quicken 2006 PPC can be obtained from Ferd at this website:

What does this mean? I just bought a digital game from the Blizzard company the makers of Warcraft and Starcraft but I cant install the game. Its says that "PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Another route I tried as I was just messing around trying to figure it out then it said "cant run in "DOS mode"

    Welcome Moraco !
Warcraft 3 works great on my macbook (10.8.3)
The installation was made on 10.5
    I use this game on 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8
May be you don't have the universal binary patch installed.
Try to download the dmg on Battle.net web site after registration.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
    1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
    2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
    3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
    4. Install it in the new partition
    5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7

after migration to a new macbook i cannot open photoshop. I get error message "you can't open this application "adobe photoshop cs" because powerpc applications are no longer supported"

You cannot run Photoshop CS on a new Intel-based Mac running OS X Mavericks. CS is far too old.
You'll have to buy Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements 12. Or subscribe to CC.
