Can't open pics in Preview since Mountain Lion install

Hi - I use Preview to open my iPhoto pics and then save them at a smaller resolution for using on my web pages, blogs, emails etc. It's a bit cumbersome but it works. Now, since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MacBook (so it will sync documents with my iPad) blow me - I find I can't open files in Preview! I get a box headed 'icloud for Preview.' The text then says: 'You can move your existing documents to icloud by dragging them here from the finder or other apps.' There's then an option to cancel, and a greyed-out box saying Open, but of course I can't open anything! It means, really, that I have lost the ability to edit my pictures with Preview. Is this right? And is there anything I can do about it? Also, I notice my iPhoto icon has disappeared from my Finder so I can't open iPhoto from there. It's all happened since the Mountain Lion install. Can anyone help, please?

I don't know about your Preview problem and I am interested to see responses about it.
When you say no iPhoto in Finder. Do you mean iPhoto is not listed in the Applications folder? If you do a Finder search on iPhoto is it found. Mine is in "Bobs HD>Applications

iTunes match hasn't worked since Mountain Lion install. Cloud icon keeps striking~ off. Won't upload new tracks to iTunes match. Same issue here with a MacBook pro recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. I hadn't tried iTunes Match prior to the upgrade so can't say whether or not it worked previously.

Mac Pro freezing since Mountain lion installed

I'm getting freeze ups on my Mac Pro since downloading Mountain Lion...any way to fix this or get my Lion OS back?

I haven't re-installed Sophos yet. The Sophos forum are saying there's still an issue, so until I hear that they have resolved it, I'm leaving it uninstalled.
Under Lion, it used to run in the background with minimal resources being used. I hope Sophos can get the issue resolved ASAP for Mountain Lion.

My Imac 27 keeps freezing since Mountain Lion installed

Is anyone else have freezing problems I have 8gbram i7 2.8ghz no help from tech support.

Odd Time Machine Behavior Since Mountain Lion Installed

I have used Time Machine to back up to a three-month-old Time Capsule (named 2012 TC) without problems until I updated my iMac to Mountain Lion.
Now, when I awaken my computer from sleep I often (not always) receive an alert window which says:
“Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to ‘2012 TC’.”
The alert window then goes on to say:
“The backup disk is not in the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required’.”
and
“Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk.”
And then offers a button to “Open Time Machine Preferences.”
The alert window goes away after some seconds, and if I restart Time Machine backup it seems to work OK. I do seem to be getting proper backups.
This did not occur with Lion, and has only happened since my upgrade to Mountain Lion (including its latest upgrade OS 10.8.1). My Time Capsule is in exactly the same format as before, which was set automatically when I connected it to Time Machine months ago.
What’s going on? Is there a problem? Is there something I should do to fix this?

Safari crashes on my imac since mountain lion install

Since installing hte mountain lion safari keeps crashing, any similar experiences/solutions

So I can just delete FCPX, install FCS 3, then re-download FCPX right?
I just have some projects that I'm working on in X, so I don't want to lose them, or pay to download it again.
I'm pretty sure I won't have to buy it again, but I just want to play it safe...

Pages not working well since Mountain Lion installed.

Since installing Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, Pages constantly freezes, and I have to force a quit, followed be restarting the computer - sometimes twice or thrice. I've never had to do that before, and it is very frustrating. Even today I turned on the computer, went to launch a simple document that I've viewed many times in the past, and instead of opening, I have to force a quit again! Any ideas?

I saw on another post yesterday that Apple is aware of this and should have it fixed by October 2013. In the meantime, my drive's going back to Apple for a refund today. Thank God it's still under warranty! Hope nothing else on my iMac crashed. Haven't seen anything. I've switched everything to apple - phone, ipod, iMac. Wish I would have gotten another pc and stayed with my Droid.

Can't download updates from appstore after mountain lion install

after installing mountain lion, i cannot download the update for Keynote (version 5.2) in the Appstore. I get since installing mountain lion continuously (for 2 days now) a message dat een error is occuring in App store and that i should try again later.

try this:
system preferences - security and privacy - allow applicatons downloaded from: put a dot to anywhere.

No digital audio out since Mountain Lion install

MacMini 2009. Digital audio out was working fine with Lion. Installed ML from scratch (had unrepairable filesystem). No digital out since.
During install I migrated from a time machine disk which installed SoundFlower. I've since removed SoundFlower.
Internal speakers work with nothing plugged in. Headphones work. Digital out doesn't. Sound Preferences has only a single output device that changes depending on what is plugged in. That is, Internal Speakers does NOT show when headphone or digital out is connected.
Have reset PRAM and rebooted several times. Deleted sound preference file.
Audio MIDI setup defaults to 44100hz "2ch-24bit Integer". If I change it to "Encoded Digital Audio" then Play in iTunes does not move the position indicator - ie looks like it is still paused.

I've the same problem but i don't realy understand how you have fixed it. It's my first macbook so i try to understand everything.
At my mac there are also ? In the places of adressbook and ichat, and i couldn't find imessage/message.

Can't open attachments from Mail since downloading Lion...

I have recently updated to Lion and since then I'm unable to open attachments in my email - either attachments received or documents I've attached to an email I'm composing. The app - Pages, Numbers, etc. - will open, but nothing happens after that.
When trying to open email attachments the document will open in Preview, but if I select "Open in Pages/Numbers" it gets stalled, as described above.
My only option seems to be to save the document and then open through the app or Finder, extra steps I'd rather not always have to take.
Help?

I'm having the same problem. I know there's an attachment. I can see the paper clip in the listing of e-mails, but when I open the e-mail, there's nothing to launch to see the attachment!

Can't print to Ricoh 3228c since Mountain lion upgrade

Since Mountain Lion install, sometimes Safari becomes very sluggish and sometimes unresponsive, especially when it is doing autocorrect.

I have had Safari crash in one instance. And, other times it is very, very sluggish while typing a post to Facebook. I had Safari become unresponsive this afternoon, and eventually the whole system became unresponsive. I ended up having to do a power down and power up to clear the system.
Anyone got some suggestions? This behavior came about since the 10.8.1 update.

The fact that the Time and Date settings are messed up tells me a totally different battery needs replacing. There are in fact two batteries on every notebook. The one that is a regular charging battery that frequently lasts anywhere from a year and a half to longer. But then there is a battery that controls the system clock known as the PRAM battery. It is this latter battery which also speaks to the firmware of the computer. That's one which often starts losing its charge after 4 years. You are closed to that stage now, and depending on the use of your computer, you might speed its demise. You have to understand how all batteries work on the computers from http://www.apple.com/batteries/ Apple can replace the PRAM battery, and verify your firmware is correctly up to date. By the way, I agree making a clone is preferable to Time Machine, as you can't really boot from a Time Machine backup. Until your PRAM battery is replaced I think you will continue to have problems.

After Mountain Lion install, my iMac powers off instead of just going to sleep. Help? Thanks.

After I installed Mountain Lion on my 2009 iMac, it will power off after I don't use it a while. It used to just go to sleep, I'd shake the mouse, and it would come back up. Now it powers off and I have to power it back up every time.
My Macbook has NOT had this problem since Mountain Lion install. It is fine.

Do these resets to clear errant commands:
SMC RESET

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
PRAM RESET
Zap the PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

I am really dissatisfied about the Mavs, how can i put it back to my Mountain Lion? since I've downloaded the Mavs, my iMovie, photo, contacts, notes has not been working properly at all. Please help! thanks

i downloaded the Mavs about 2 days ago. it restarted automatically as it stated... i have not really used it again until tonight. and boy was i so ******!
after downloading the new OS update, the list below stopped and wont work properly:

You don't need to downgrade. If it worked in Mountain Lion it will work in Mavericks. Do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
