Can't open .pkg, can't find installer

I'm trying to install new drivers for a M-Audio recording interface, the file is a .pkg, and I can't find Mac OS Installer. What can I use to open it, or where can I find a download for Mac OS installer? I don't even know why my computer doesn't have Mac OS installer.. I just installed Tiger only 5 days ago.

It should be in your Applications/Utilities folder. If it isn't there you can do a custom install of software from your install discs (no need to do a full OS install). You can't download it from anywhere.

For the installer log file, search for Sun_Java_Studio_Enterprise_6_2004Q1_install, or some portion of that.
To find Java ES component product log files, search on Sun_ONE.
You can also search for the timestamp that is part of each log file name. It is of the format MMddhhmm (Month/day/hour/minute)
Refer also to the Troubleshooting chapter of the Installation Guide for additional details on reports and log files used by Java SE

  • Dynadock V10 - " error can not find installation file" INSTALL ERROR

    Hi I have a toshiba dynadock V10.
Every time i try to install the drivers it says " error can not find installation file". I have downloaded the latest drivers and switched off my anti virus and shut off all running proiceses and no go. There are a few references to this on the internet but none has a solution.
I amn trying to install it on an equium U400 running windows 7.
Funnily enough it loaded on an old dell pc easily!
I have spent hours searching the net and there is no answer. I dont have anything showing in programs to uninstall.
    Thanks

    >Funnily enough it loaded on an old pc easily!
    Hi
This means that drivers are ok and there must be something wrong with the system preinstalled on Equium U400.
    How did you proceed?
Its important that you would NOT connect the Dynadock to the notebook before the drivers and software installation has not been finished.
Therefore you have to install the software firstly. Then after new reboot connect the Dynadock to the notebook and the installation would finish the next steps.

  • Photoshop Elements 7: Can't find installation file to reinstall

I recently upgraded from WIndows Vista business 64 to Windows 7 Professional 64. Unfortunately I cannot reinstall Photoshop Elements 7 which I downloaded and purchased a license for. I can't find the downloaded file back on the hard drives nor in the backups.
Easiest would be if there was a utility that adds the photoshop elements entries to the registry with the right paths, but if that is not available, where can I download a new install file for Photoshop Elements 7? I do like the program and would like to be able to use it again.

Well, that's another lesson learned: Always get a DVD and don't count on any Adobe customer service. Buying new is pushed everywhere, getting any service or help from Adobe on stuff you bought in the past is not to be found... Guess it doesn't exist.
I will just go have a look at what the competitors have to offer.

  • HT4848 Can't find "installation information for this machine"

I have a brand new Mac Mini that came with Mountain Lion Server pre-installed. After having some difficulty(s) migrating from Snow Leopard I wish to revert to a clean re-install and start over. When I attempt to do this I get "Could not find installation information for this machine."
    Any help appreciated.
    Urgent !!!
    Thanks,

How are you trying to do the re-install? Are you using the Recovery HD or Internet Recovery. Information here on how to proceed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If you do an erase and install so that the Mac needs to be setup as if straight out of the box, then Setup Assistant is probably a better way of restoring your data from backup. Details here courtesy of Pondini:

  • Must repair disk, can't find installation disks!

    Hi,
My macpro 10.6.4 has been running slow (but correctly) so I downloaded onyx to do some maintenance work on it. unfortunately it found that there are problems on the startup disk and advised me to insert the installation disks, and press C while restarting. Then go to disk utility and repair disk. Unfortunately I cannot find the 10.6 disks, I can only lay me hands on the 10.4.7 disks. Will this work? Or should I just keep working with a faulty disk (I have time machine backups) and request replacement disks form apple (I have my receipt)...
    Many thanks for any advice

Ah, the rule I would adhere to: never modify / download or install something on a drive that is in needs of repair.
Mac Pro: there is NO reason in that setup to not have a small emergency system volume, a good bootable clone backup.
Rule #2: never use older versions, even within the same OS family.
#3: pick up Disk Warrior; backup hard drive.
    #4: Apple $29 Snow Leopard DVD 10.6
What you can use though is fsck, which is one part of Applejack (it has others like cache cleaning which is very useful), check for corrupt prefs and 3-4 other features. Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner is almost identical, they rely on Apple's command line diskutil / fsck from Single User Mode.
There is also Shift key and SAFE BOOT.
Depends on the severity of the error.

I would not download an app/utility in such a situation.
Running slow is not normal or healthy.
And I keep seeing problems lately from (a few) using Onyx, obviously with underlying problems to begin with.
Do a favor, invest in Disk Warrior and setup OS X on another drive.
Disk Utility RESTORE can copy your system to another hard drive and allow you to boot from there. Use that.
Make sure "Ignore Ownership" is not selected first (with internal drives, it wont but with USB/FW it usually is).
In future, SuperDuper or CCC can keep your backup clone current and up to date.
For now, DU Restore will give you another drive to boot from and use; and to repair your current system drive. But I would not put off getting Disk WArrior and a better maintenance and recovery procedure. Rather than waiting for slowdown or issues and focus on prevention.

  • MacBook Pro, BootCamp Can't find installation CD

Hi, I have recently bought my first intel mac (osx Mountain Lion, 2.53 ghz Core 2 Duo, Mid '09) and am using BootCamp Assistant for the first time, i have read a few articles on this but BootCamp is system specific, and my problem is it cannot find the installation CD.
I am trying to install XP with SP2 32 bit, which the apple site said was OK, so I cannot work out why it won't work, The superdrive is fine, because I burnt the driver DVD OK and so is the XP disc, because I have Installed off that disc before (but never on mac)
Thanks for any help, but the easiest option is appreciated :-)
    Callum.

Yeah - it's only a 14-day free trial. I just upgraded to version 8 when it came out a couple of weeks ago: no problems with Mountain Lion.
You just need to install XP to a new VM - Parallels will guide you through the process. No need to option-boot or anything like that. And yes, it will work with 64-bit OS's just fine.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

If it's updates through the Office auto-updater that are having problems, that's probably an issue you'll need to take up on Microsoft's support site. If you're having problems installing Office from scratch and it's saying it can't find Installer, you may need to repair your hard drive. More help will probably be obtained if you post in the Mac OS X 10.6 forum; this forum, where you originally posted, is for help with the Communities themselves.

  • I can't open .pkg files.  i get an error telling me to choose an application to open them.  the Installer app is not in my Utilities folder or in System/Library/CoreServices.

i can't open .pkg files.  i get an error telling me to choose an application to open them.  the Installer app is not in my Utilities folder or in System/Library/CoreServices.

Install the UnArchiver and try again.
    http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver
There is no Installer.app in the Utilities or Applications folder, there is one in the System/Library/CoreServices.
If yours is not there, then you need to:
1: Backup your data off the machine to a non-TimeMachine drive and disconnect all drives.
2: If you have TM, try to restore the Installer.app from the TM drive and reboot. See if things work.
If the above doesn't work, your going to have to re-install just OS X 10.6 (and bundled programs) from the disk by holding c and booting off the 10.6 disk and simply installing OS X. Then software updating to 10.6.8.
This will replace all bundled programs and OS X, not touch your files (backup regardless) and most third party programs.
Some third party programs will have to be reinstalled form original sources because they install Kext files into OS X and thus kicked out by the 10.6 reinstall form disk.
All should go well, however if you boot to a gray screen or other freeze, reboot holding the shift key down, then update all your third party software to be current to 10.6.8.
Another method is to re-install in to CoreServices the Installer.app from the 10.6 disk using the extraction program called Pacifist from CharleSoft, then running software update to get any updates for Installer.app.

  • How can i re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to hidden Installer?

I am near the end of the process of setting up my new Mac Pro (early 2009) eight core. Quite the wonderful difference from my "Mirror Drive Door" dual 1.25 GHz machine!
The Mac Pro came with Mac OS X 10.6.2 installed. I updated this to 10.6.6 via Software Update along with a slew of other updates presented there. I downloaded and installed a bunch of software. Finally, I was ready to install iLife 11 from the "CPU Drop-in" DVD that was on top of the box when the computer was originally unpacked.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't even begin the install. The "iLife.mpkg" file, when double-clicked, returned the error message "no application associated with this document". Hours of investigation reveals that NO .mpkg or .pkg file will open; doing a "get info" on the files reveals that those files have lost their link to the Installer app.
AND since the only installer I can find is hidden in /usr/sbin, there is no way I can re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to it via "get info".
I downloaded Pacifist and used it to open the "Mac OS X 10.6.6 Combo" package and re-installed the Combo updater. Much to my surprise, that didn't fix the linking issue.
I've logged in as root, but still can't re-link the package files to the Installer as /usr/ is still hidden. Is there a way I can temporarily "un-hide" the /usr directory so that "get info; open with" can see it?
I've started from the Mac OS X installer DVD and repaired permissions on the hard disk and "repaired" the hard disk. No luck there either.
I did a clean install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 to a different hard drive and applied the combo updater and the packages worked as expected there. So some software I installed or by running a slew of updaters via Software Update broke the link between packages and the Installer.
I'm sure that re-linking to packages to the hidden installer app can be done via Terminal and possible other ways, but I don't know how to do it.
Short of doing a complete Mac OS X 10.6 re-installation and update and having to re-do several days of other software installations and data transfers, I'm hoping someone will offer some solutions or tips on how to solve my problem.
How do I re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to the Installer?

Thanks for the reply. I know I had previously checked for the missing installer in /System/Library/CoreServices/ and I rechecked and it's still not there. But your tip spurred me to check the test 10.6.6 installation on the other hard disk and yes! It's there!
A quick copy from the second hard disk to my current hard disk and doing the "get info" trick and everything now works wonderfully. Only one day lost to trying to figure this out. Now that the problem is fixed, quite the relief.

  • When I attempt to open firefox an error message appears telling me that firefox is already running, but I can't find it running. How do I do so or in any case close the already running Firefox process?

When I attempt to open Firefox instead of Firefox opening, an error message appears saying "Firefox is already running but isn't responding. To open another window please close the existing Firefox process or restart the system.", but I can't find that process of Firefox in order to kill it, and after restarting the system there is still the problem. I have found an emergency fix to at least get online, and that is to use"Firefox_Profile_Manager" in the start menu's "run" start menu, but the
