  • Can't open PNG files in Photoshop CS5...??

I'm seeing lots of threads with this problem but none of them seem to have an answer.
For some reason right now when I try to open a PNG file in Photoshop it just crashes.  I end up with a neverending "hour glass".
I had all of my website project directories on a network share.  As I'm no longer sharing all of these files with an office of people I decided to move all of these project files back to my own local machine.  Ever since I've done that I can't open PNG files in Photoshop anymore.
Any information on what could have caused this, or more importantly, how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I was able to edit PNG files just fine up until today, and the only thing I've done is move the files from the network share to my local hard drive.
Any PNG, large or small won't work right now.  All of the other threads I see where people are talking about this say it's happening with their GIF files, too.  I just tried one here and the same thing happened.  From within Photoshop I did File -> Open, browsed to my image directory and the moment I clicked on one of the GIF files it locked up.
So yeah, I'm certain it's isolated to my machine right now.  I just have no idea at all what could possibly be causing this.  The other threads are mentioning netework shares, too, but usually still trying to open over the network.  In my case it was working fine when I did it over the network, but now that I'm opening local files it's failing.

  • Photoshop CC can´t open .PNG files?

I can´t seem to open .PNG files with Photoshop CC.
Looking around the net for answers i found out that resetting your Photoshop preferences might be able to solve the probem.
This unfortunatly creates a new problem, how do i reset the preferences in Photoshop CC? - all the guides/tutorials i found was for CS6 or older versions.
So how do i solve this problem?
    Best regards

  • Can't Open .png Fiies

I have just upgraded to a new iMac and have transferred all my files, settings & applications from my old iMac. The old machine had MAC OS X 10.4.11 and the new machine has 10.5.5
Everything went perfectly except I can't now open .png files in Photoshop CS2 version 9.0.2. I get the following error message, "....Photoshop does not recognise this type of file"
Has anyone had the same problem?

I have just realised the I now only have 4 Plug-Ins listed under "About Plug-In" in Photoshop but on my old machine there must be about 100 listed. How do I transfer all of these?
    Thanks

Have you deleted any fonts from your system font folder?

  • Can't open .png in CS5?

I come across this frequently with all files I receive. PS does not recognize format. I need to open in Mac preview and save as something else before I can use PS.

Interesting. Client sent me that .png logo, probably grabbed from the company website. Can't open as .png in either PS or Fireworks, but when I manually changed suffix to .jpg, no problem.
Either it never was a .png or something fishy is up.
As stated before, I get this almost all the time.
As a .jpg, PS is still not a listed option when I go to "open with" (that feature is another issue altogether).
If saved back as a PNG from within PS, I can open it again.

  • Can't open file in CS4 due to plugins?

    Hi, hoping someone can help.
I am trying to open an Indesign file (I think it's a CS3 file) with CS4 but get this message:
    Cannot Open File
Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
    It lists about 15 plugins that are 'missing';
    eg:
    PDF.InDesignPlugin
    FontManager
    Group
    Generic
    Table Model
    etc etc
Any ideas how I get around this so I can work on the doc?
    Cheers
    Jac

That error message means that you're trying to open a file that is newer than your copy of InDesign. So, the file pretty much has to be a CS5 file. You can't open a CS5 file in CS4; you'd need to open it up in CS5 and export an IDML file, which you can then open in CS4.
There's an additional confusing element here:
InDesign CS4 is actually InDesign 6 when you click Help -> About
InDesign CS2 is actually InDesign 4 when you click Help -> About
    and so on
However, it's not possible to see that error message when you're opening an older InDesign file in a newer program.

  • [SOLVED]Gimp can't open png files

    Hi,
since couple of days Gimp throws me an error when trying to open png files:
    GIMP Message
Opening '/home/kleskjr/Documents/docs/kopenhagen/visa_ping.png' failed: Failed to run plug-in "file-png"
    GIMP Message
    Plug-in crashed: "file-png"
    (/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-png)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.
I am using gimp-devel from the AUR.
Is there somebody experiencing similar problems?
    cheers!

There was an update to libpng, and all aur packages that depend on it (such as gimp-devel) must be rebuilt.
Eh ... if you really wanted to know if someone else was experiencing similar problems, you would have looked at recent threads on these forums - and if you had done that, you would have seen much activity relating to libpng.

  • Photoshop Can't Open .png Files

Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble here with Photoshop CS5. When I drag & drop/open a .png picture in Photoshop, it gives me the following error:
I can open .jpeg files all good, and I'm not too sure about.gif or any others, cause I only use Photoshop mainly to do graphics and such. I did some research and other people insisted that is was a corrupted file within the Photoshop directory. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Well, Chris, I couldn't check by myself because I had a very little time in these days, too much work to do, but every kind of file have its own header as you may know, regardless of the file extension itself, so I wonder why Photoshop can't read the file header instead of the file extension, considering that file header is almost every 8byte long, so reading the first 8 bytes identify for sure the file type and then it can be handled by the specific function to view it. That's how programs usually work, extension are useful to the user to identify a file, but shouldn't be the only way a software identify a file type. Micosoft itself, that is known to be bad to user-friendly stuff, can open document with MSOffice even if they have not an extension. Mac open everything regardless of extension, Linux open everything regardless of extension.
Now, in this specific case I really don't know if the png have the right header, as I said I will check it as soon as I have time, but the above suggestion should be taken in consideration. Reading the first 8bytes of a file will not cause any performance issue, just two codes line to add (and an associative array with header->filetype to be passed to the PS CS5 function that open the files...).

  • Can't open .png file unzipped from an email in PSE 9

I get the following error when I attempt to open a .png file that was unzipped from an email:
"could not complete request because of a problem with the file-format module interface."
What is unusual is that another employee can open the file using Adobe Photoshop CS. I am also able to open other .png files. I was informed that this file was created on a Mac. I am using PSE 9 on XP Pro.
Any ideas to what may be causing this issue? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The OS should not make difference in this case.Try opening the same file through irfan view.

  • I can't open my Photoshop CS4 anymore- why?

I have been unable to open my Photoshop for some time now and I get this error message when I try:
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your compute before it can be launched.
I you continue to see this message after restarting your computer, please contact either your IT administrator or Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shah own at the bottom of this screen.

The 150:30 error is a common problem which, most often, occurs when you recover Photoshop CS4 from a backup or transfer to another computer. The simplest way to clear it up is to re-install CS4. Here is a link to the installers: Download CS4 products
You can use your discs or the downloads from the provided link. Either way, have your serial number ready...

  • Can´t open images in cs4

I´ve just installed CS4 on my computer. There´s no problem starting the program but when I try to open an image it first appear but in a second I get a shut down message that say Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encounted a problem and has to be terminated.
I´ve tried to reinstall three times but the same problem reoccur. I can open a picture in Camera Raw and Bridge but as soon as a export in to CS4 for it terminates.
    Any clues?

Ensure CS4 is updated to 11.0.1

  • Can't open PNG

I can't reopen some PNGs that had not previously given me any
    problems.
At the same time, I seem to be having a corrupt font problem
that's affecting Safari and Mail. Now, I am conjectruing that the
same font problem is keeping these PNGs from opening. Are there any
workarounds that will save me the time of rebuilding these files?

If the problem is actually caused by font corruption, try
    removing the
font from your system (or reinstalling the font). If the font
    used in PNG
get removed, FW should ask you for replacement.
