Can't open printer sw

I have an HP C4280 USB'd to my Time Capsule. Today I tried to open the HP Photosmart Studio sw in my dock. But as soon as it opens it "quits unexpectedly" and leaves me with a Problem Report which includes this:
Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 3
Is there anyway to fix it?

So I renamed 3 HP printer plist files (com.hp.keywords.plist, com.hp.Photosmart.Studio.plist, and com.hp.printerutility.plist) and did a Software Update with restart and 2 of the plists were updated while com.hp.printerutility.plist was not. Trying to open HP Photosmart Studio from my dock still results in "quit unexpectedly."
I checked permissions on these files and I have Read and Write permission on all 3 of them.
I also looked around and found a Printers directory which contains only 1 file named HP Photosmart C4200 series.app. I can open this file and it tells me things like "The black print cartridge is low on ink" which is what I was looking for in the first place.
I'm new to Mac but I'm poking around and right clicked on the icon in the dock and was able to select Open in Finder and got a "Device Utilities" folder opened with 10 HP .app files including HP Photosmart Studio.app. Clicking that takes me right to "quit unexpectedly" again. So I renamed it and am going to do another Software Upgrade now.

  • Can't open print & fax preferences, can't print

I know I've read about this problem before, but I can't seem to find the thread. I'm a total novice when it comes to terminal, but I don't even know where to start. Whenever I try to print, or even open print & fax, I just get the spinning wheel. I'm using Leopard on a 17" MBP, and I'm set up on a network with several printers (I can't even open the individual printers...everything related to printers or printing just freezes!!)
    Any help is much appreciated!

I think I have bigger problems here...
I think you may be right.
    Have you installed anything recently?
Open up Console.app and see if there are any messages that repeat regarding the crashes.
How much free space do you have on the disk?
You can get into the CUPS web config through http://localhost:631
I couldn't find anything like "Reset Printing System," but you can view the error logs (which you can do from Console.app), and edit the Configuration file. There is a button to use the Default configuration, but I don't know what that will accomplish. Might be the last ditch effort before reinstall.
EDIT: From About the Reset Printing System feature:
What does Reset Printing System do?
Deletes all printer queues and jobs.
Resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files.
Performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.
    1) Can do that from CUPS interface
    2) Noted above
    3) They should be rwxr-xr-x root:admin

After installing Firefox v.17, I can't open my printer's web access page.
It is a network printer and IP address is 192.168.0.105.
Typing that IP in the browser should open the web interface, but since installing v.17 all I get is error.
Previous versions of Firefox had absolutely no problem opening that page.

  • Can't open printer connection

I now have the following setup:
iMac G5 (LAN port) <--> Belkin 5-Port Network Switch via Ethernet
HP 7210 (LAN port) <--> Belkin 5-Port Network Switch via Ethernet
Airport Extreme Base Station (LAN port) <--> Belkin 5-Port Network Switch via Ethernet
Cable modem <--> Airport Extreme Base Station (WAN port)
The network seems to be working fine as far as internet access goes. On the Airport Admin Utility, I have the Distribute IP addresses box checked.
When I try to print, the HP Officejet 7200 series dialog box opens and says "Opening printer connection" but nothing ever happens.
    What do I do?

    HI Sean:
I had the same problem too!!! I was getting frustrated because I was trying to
get my hp photosmart 7260 and my hp deskjet 3740 to print wirelessly. The solution I found by accident. What happened is that my network went down so I decided to unplug my cable modem connection from the Lan Connection on the Airport Extreme Router and plug it in the Wan connection and presto my printers were printing wirelessly. When that happened I literaly just wanted to cry in happiness.
Hope this works for you. Please let me know what happens. My email is [email protected] if you want to contact me.

    It's what it says really.
Try opening up a Word document. Then go File > Print. BUT instead of selecting your printer at home, you should see a printer called 'Print to Go'.
Select it and Print. The Word document should then be 'printed' to your PlayBook.

  • Can't open print settings with CS5 and Epson R1900

In Photoshop CS5, go to File > Print.  In the Print dialogue window, click on Print Settings... and no response.  The blue Print button in the lower right corner flashes when I click, but nothing else happens.
I've tried running Photoshop in 32-bit mode as well.  Doesn't behave differently.
Running on a Mac Pro 2.26 GHz (most current generation).
    12 GB RAM
    OS 10.6.4
Printer is connected to Airport Extreme USB (most current generation).
Can successfully print with CS4; seems to be a new issue with CS5.
Hope I've included enough info to troubleshoot this problem.
    Thanks for any help!
    Brian,.

I've been trying to trouble shoot this problem since the beginning of September. I wasn't sure if it was a snow leopard issue, a Driver issue, or a CS5 issue. I guess it's CS5. I recently discovered the work around of asking Photoshop to manage the colors, opening the print settings, saving, then returning to printer managing colors but this just doesn't cut it in our graphics lab. We need the settings to be as straight forward as possible for our students.
Also, unrelated sort of, Photoshop remembers the settings from the previous print job. Which again doesn't work well in a lab/public environment. So if jimmy printed 20 copies of a file and set it to print colors as gray; Susie, the next in line, would have the same print settings for her file. This seems to only happen with photoshop. Not Preview, not safari, nor any other program.
We're seriously considering moving back to CS4.
...at least that had contact sheets.

  • I can not open print and fax

Last Friday we installed a new printer on our computer at work. It is running OS X 10.5.8. It worked well all day friday, and we were printing with no problems. Now how ever, when I came in on Monday, booted up my computer and went to print something, it just sat there with the wheel spinning and did not progress. I tried to go under the print & fax setting to see if anything was qued in the printer, but now that wont open either. Everything else seems to open, although the computer has slowed down quite substantially. What can i do?

Usually this is because you've got graphics that are cmyk or grayscale not RGB, or that are larger than 4000 by 4000 pixels.   Move them on your hard disk so fcp can't find them and make them rgb and resize to an acceptable pixel dimension.

  • PS6 - can't open print dialog

Hello, first thing: sorry for my poor english.
I'm running PS6 (CS6 Design Standard) on Mac OS Mavericks, all up to date.
And there is some problem with printing: cmd+P  results with "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." Tried reset PS settings - it helps only for newly opened document once, saved docs won't print. Tried to change default printer, installed new drivers (for Epson P50 - USB, Xerox DC 252 - LAN, Agfa Apogee - virtual).
Printing works fine from Adobe Acrobat Pro and other programs.
It happened to me also few weeks ago but uninstall and reinstall of CS6 helped,  now it's suddenly not working again.
    Any clue? Some Patch maybe?
    Thank in advance
    K.
    [edit]
Once again: uninstalled (whole CS6- uninstalling only PS itsn't working),  reinstalled, maintenance (permissions) with Onyx - it's working. But for how long?
