Can't open project - incompatible format???
I just did a project on DVD studio pro, and ultimately made a disk image of my final DVD (standard procedure for me.) Anyway, I opened up the disk image and was checking it out on the DVD player (on my Mac) and realized I forgot to set one of the buttons. Not a huge deal, I can just go back to the project, set it, and redo the image, right? Yeah, not the case. When I try to open the project an error comes up telling me that the project cannot be opened, that it’s an incompatible formate???? I just had the project open 5 minutes ago, and now it wont’ open??? Any ideas? It shows it loading the project up, and this happens as the end of initializing the assets.
I could understand if there was something with one of the assets it didn’t like, but that should have been a problem when I tried to import the asset from the start. I got all the way to a finished disk.
Have you recently reinstalled FCE and forgotten to update it?

Can't open Project Professional 2013 projects in SharePoint 2013
I can't open Project 2013 documents from SharePoint2013.
My environment is:
Project Professional 2013 32 bit
Office Professional 2013 32 bit
IE 9 32 bit
Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
All other documents (Word, Excel) can be checked out and edited from SharePoint.
When I check out and edit a Project document I get the following error:
Project cannot open the file.
check that the file name a path are correct.
check that the file format is recognized by Project.
Also, I get the same error when trying to open a project document from a mapped SharePoint drive.
Note: This was working on a fresh install of Office 2013 and Project Professional 2013 UNTIL a windows update (Office 2013 SP 1 and other updates)
Am I missing an update?
Thanks!
KenHi Ken,
I would try first to repair MS Project from the control panel to see if it fixes your issue.
Hope this helps,

I bought a book form Adobe 'Adobe Premiere Pro Classroom in a book'. I copied all the lessons to my hard drive and when I try to open the Lesson1.prproj, I've got an error message: 'File format not supported'. Can anybody please tell me what is going on?
Curious. Well, my first thought is-- the book was written with valid media, so we can rule out the possiblity of a wrong file format. Which leads me to think either the DVD is bad, or the files were corrupted when being copied to your hard drive.
Can you open the same project directly on the DVD? -
Can't open Project 2010 file in Project 2007
I am trying to open a Project 2010 file in Project 2007, I get an error that asks if I would like to download the converter and I say yes and get a generic product page for Project 2010. I can't locate the file that I need, how do I find it?
Addressed here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/opening-project-mpp-files-from-different-versions-HA001045020.aspx
You have reached this page because the Project MPP file that you are trying to open was created in a later version of Microsoft Project. Check below to determine if a converter for opening later files is available to you.
Which Project version are you using?
Which file version are you trying to open?
Notes
Project 2007
Project 2010
No converter is available. If you received a Project 2010 file that you want to open using Project 2007, ask the person who sent the file to first save it to the Project 2007 file format.
Alternately, you can install the free
trial version of Project 2010, and then view the file, or save it to the Project 2007 file.
Note Once the trial version of Project 2010 has expired, it can continue to open and view project files, but it won’t be able to save them.
Project 2003
Project 2007
There are two possibilities here.
If you are using Project 2003 with SP3, project files from Project 2007 can be opened read-only.
Download Microsoft Office Project 2003 Service Pack 3.
If you are using Project 2003 without SP3, there is no converter available. Upgrade to Project 2003 with SP3, or ask the person who sent the Project 2007 or later file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
Project 2003
Project 2010
No converter is available. Ask the person who sent the Project 2010 file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
Project 2000 or Project 2002
Project 2007 or Project 2010
No converter is available. Ask the person who sent the Project 2007 or later file to save the file first in the Project 2000-2003 file format.
Project 98
Project 2000 and later versions
No converter is available. Consider upgrading to the latest version of Project, or install the free
trial version of Project 2010 to try out Project’s enhanced functionality.
Alternately, ask the person who sent the Project 2000-2003 file to save the file first in the Project 98 file format.
Note Project 2007 and later versions of Project do not have the ability to save to the Project 98 file format.” -
I downloaded RH6 on my machine and then tried to open my
WebHelp file by opening the .hhp file, since I'm unable to locate
the .xpj file. I get an error stating the open project was
cancelled or the app was unable to load database for [the path
name] with the file name Quik Fixes.cpd. I'm wondering why it's
pointing to the .cpd file. I've tried restarting, tried deleting
the cpd file, thinking that it would re-generate itself upon
startup, but I've received the same error. Also, I've always opened
the project with the .HHP file, and never had a problem before. Why
can't I ever see the .xpj file? Does anyone know a fix to this? I'm
under a tight deadline here, and this is the last thing I need
happening!

"Used a copied version" as in CopyFromA>PasteInB? If so,
that doesn't work.
Then two installs from original - did you properly uninstall
the first of those two before installing the last of those two?

What/where/how to find depends of the version od Windows.
Look for "Security Center" if in WinXP. I don't remember where to
look in Vista as I hated it and blew it away, never to use a byte

I can't help with that.

Can't open project unless trash prefs or eject ext hd... ???
I want to start off by apologizing ahead of time if I miss a detail or seem like I am rambling but I am going on 48 hours no sleep, half of which trying to figure out my problem, and my doc's air date is quickly quickly approaching. I will try to make this brief yet detailed...
I am working on a two hour documentary and I am having to hop between two machines.. one is at work and the other is at my home..
Home System:
MacBook Pro 10.5.8
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
FCP 6.0.6
Work System:
2.5 GHz PowerPC Still on Tiger
FCP 6.0.6
(I apologize I don't know more details but I am at my home system right now and weary to drive up there on no sleep..)
I am editing XDCAM footage which I digitized in low res DV and then highres at the end to DVCPRO HD (since my system at work can't handle anything higher)
I have completed that entire process for the first hour of the doc with no issues.. having two copies of the SD version.. one at home and one at work and I would just throw my project file on a thumb drive and relink..
Ok.. so now I am trying to finish hour 2 and I've worked the exact same process as I did for hour 1.. This past Tuesday, it was at the end of the day and I just restarted my machine and tried to open my project and it would get stuck on the loading page... it did pass all the plugins loading... and would stop while it said ...6.0.6. Honestly I didn't think too much of it (panic wise) cause it's always something... lol.. I just did some quick googling... found that I should run permissions and trash my prefs.. Which I did.. and it opened just fine after that.
Rest of the week went fine until yesterday. At work again... it did the exact same thing. Now I am getting a bit concerned since I've never had to trash prefs before and now it's happening twice in one week...? hmmm.. Since works computer is still on Tiger, I can't download Digital Rebellion FCS Maintenance Pack.. (BUT I do have it on my home system..) So.. I went through the above process once again... and it opened just fine again.
brought my project file home last night and it was working just fine until around 2am and I couldn't open the darn project.. 'application not responding' force quit by control clicking on the dock...
Now that I am on my MPB, I decided to run the digital rebellion package (except the trashing of prefs..) Im trying to see if it's something else. I booted in Safe Mode and ran permissions there... restarted..... still can't open. So I ejected the media and it opened.. so now I have two ways to open it but it's the only way??? I even created a new project and copied my assets over to the new project (offline still)... and it still won't open.
I have to highres Monday and I am terrified to see what will happen ...
Others I tried:
-pulled all the plugins out of the plugin folder and it still wouldn't open..
-Ran Disk Warrior on both machines.. nothing major happened there.

If anyone wants to see more of that report let me know...
Thank you so much for your patience and assistance.
Sincerely,
TracyFirst, I think your workflow is more complicated than it needs to be. If the media resides on both systems on drives with the same name and same folder structure, you shouldn't need to relink. FCP should find the media transparently.
If you have a corrupt piece of media, this might work. Try this, with the media drive disconnected, open the project and do a save as. Quit fcp and then reconnect the media drive and launch the project. You should get the reconnect window. Do not reconnect anything at this time. Then, gradually reconnect your media until you find the problem clip.
If the problem is corruption in your sequence, follow the initial steps above, but after cancelling the reconnect on startup, try creating a new sequence with the same settings as your existing sequence and copying the contents of the existing sequence to the new sequence. Then select the new sequence in the browser and control click and choose reconnect media.
Report back and if the problem still exists we can move on. -
Can not open project - error message
I have a project that is approximately 100 slides (55KB), which I saved yesterday before shutting down my machine. When I tried to open it today, I get this error message .
Basically it is saying that it can't open the project because:
-The file is already open (which it's not)
-The file is damaged, for examples it was sent as an email attach and not correctly decoded (didn't send it as an attachment)
-The hard disk doesn't have sufficient available space (tried moving some things off my desktop to free up space, also tried putting the project on a network with available space and opening from there)
-The system has insufficient resources, close all other applications (tried closing everything else, still didn't open)
Has anyone ever gotten this message? If so, is there a way to resolve it and get the project to open? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated so I don't have to recreate all these slides.
Thank you,
AmandaHi there
If at all possible you need to keep your project on the local C drive. There are a great many hazards lurking about when you decide to place the project on a network drive and make edits to it as it is on the network. Many things can go so wrong.

Was working fine on a project. Closed the project tried to access it again got this error message.
Error Cant open project file: {0}
The project is there when I check in windows explorer. Can anyone help? I have a back up so I am able to continue working but I am concerned has to how this may have happened.
Regards
BettyHi Betty,
The application bean might have gotten saved inadvertantly with an unnoticed / unintended change after you copied the code from it. Its a slim chance but could have just happened. If by chance it was so, then the IDE would have had difficulty in recognizing the file as a result of which that error was thrown.
In case you are sure the file was not modified could you please provide us the steps to reproduce the problem.
Cheers
Giri :-)

I am about ready to throw this machine out the window!! I
have installed Robohelp X5 and updated to 5.0.2. I also installed a
VCS patch since RH doesn't like to play nice with PVCS. I can open
projects from local drives just fine, but when I try to open a
project from our database, I get this: "Unknown exception error,
please contact ..." This occurs after I select my location to store
files and click OK. I know my username and password are good
because other users can open projects on their machines using my
login info. I cannot open any projects using anybody else's info
either. This is the second box that I've had this occur, I actually
requested a new one to see if it would work on a different machine
and the exact same thing happens. So, I would greatly appreciate
any help with this! Thanks for the reply. Let me give you some more details. Oh
and I'm not using PVCS for VC with Robohelp, but I do have it
installed on my machine for other projects.
What I am doing is trying to open the project through
RoboSource Control. Once in RoboHelp HTML I select the Open from
RoboSource option from the Open Project dialog box, and it prompts
me to enter the server and DB name, with my username and password.
After that, it accesses the project and asks me to select a
location to store the files on my local drive. Once I do that and
click OK to proceed, I get the error. What SHOUILD happen is it
should copy the files to the specified location on my local drive
and allow me to then open the project, but I can't get that far.
It's very frustrating, especially since everyone else can do it but
me. -

Can't open project on External Harddrive
I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 and working on a project that is saved on an external hard drive.
After 6 hours of editing, the power cord came out of the hard drive. I connected everything and tried to save the project. I then got scared and stopped the saving. Now I can't open the project. I can't save it to another part of the hard drive and open it. Every time I try to open the movie it says :
A project file is missing.
The file "_" couldn't be opened
and is being skipped. Click Ignore All
to skip any remaining missing file messages.
The iMovie quits. If I can find the files- all won't be lost. Plus, I have a high res quicktime file saved of the raw footage. But, I would like NOT to lose that 6 hours of work.
Can I open this file? Did I mess it up? Where are the video clips saved? I can't find them. I have iMovie on my laptop and the project saved on the hard drive.
Thanks for any help. This is why I'm so done with video Just a few more projects to do. After 15 years this type of crap drives me crazy.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!Don't do anything more with your iMovie. Don't try another save, as that can write over your last good saves. You MAY be able to retrieve the prior save. Hopefully, you saved as you went along during these 6 hours so you can retrieve a very recent saved version.
(These types of accidents have made me realize the importance of backing up my movies-in-progress as I am editing them. I did not do this in the past, and now I try to do it at least at the end of each editing session so that not all would be lost. I had an external drive fail suddenly and all of my movies were gone. Fortunately, I was able to reimport the original footage, but frequent saves would have been best).
In iM6, you can access the project files by control or right-clicking on the star icon and selecting 'show package contents' to let you see the movie files. One or more of the icons will have a tilde ~ or several of them. Those are prior versions of the iMovie, and can be used to get back to a prior save.
In iM5, I think you can just directly open the project files and see the movie files as ~ files with the name as "yourmovie.mov" It might be in a Cache folder and might be called "Timeline Movie.mov." If you don't see anything like a Cache folder, try doing the process for iM6 above. If you see multiple .mov files with ~ and then more ~~ or even ~~~ those are more versions. You may have to try one or more of these to find the latest one possible.
Once you locate the .mov version of your movie, open a new iMovie project and drop in one of the .mov~ movies into it and see if it works. If so, continue editing with this one. This version will be all in one clip, so more editing is a bit more difficult, but not impossible and at least you will have some of your work back.
It's crucial you NOT save the messed-up project right now, for that will destroy the good QuickTime movie, replacing it with a bad "empty" movie.
(Thanks to Karl Peterson for the info re: retrieving prior saved movies).
Good luck!

Can't open Project files... have latest FCP though
Hello, I have the FCP Suite 2 and it's updated. I got a Project file from a client and when I open it, it says something similar to 'can't open the project with this version of Final Cut'.
If i have the latest version of FCP how could this be? Will FCP open a Final Cut Express file?
Sorry i don't know the exact error message at the moment, I'm trying to figure this out before I get back to my office this evening (where the computer and file is) at which point I have to contact the client and tell him what's up.
And feedback would be great, thanks for your time. Will give better details this evening if needed
-MontyI installed the update... FCP still launches as 6.0.1 . So I tried downloading the 6.0.2 updater (Pro Applications Update 2008-01), and as I enter my serial to access the file it lead me straight to the Pro Applications Update 2008-02 download which i just tried installing.
Any quick ideas would be great, I've put the client on hold til tomorrow. I did do a search here and though it wasn't clear, it seemed like someone was recommending a complete system re-install. I hope that's not the situation, thanks for your time!
-Monty
PS-If it has to be a new install of everything, exactly what do i need to make FCP update to 6.0.3? Just update FCP through the Software Updater then install the Pro Applications Update 2008-02? Or are there other update I need to get manually, thanks.

"Can't Open Project" URGENT!
Hi,
After starting a FCP project on two different FCP5 nodes, I am unable to open the project. The project has moved around on a external drive and on several different computers and now will not open. Originally, to salvage, a recent auto-save file was used and backups were made of all project files. Now, ALL autosave files and the backed-up versions will not open. A clean install of FCP with all pref's trashed was done and the same happens.
As opposed to going to the other location, is there anything I can quickly do to restore these files and continue with the project. Any help would be great as the deadline is quickly approaching.Actually we didn't make the deadline due to the loss of the project files. I have been working on a higher profile job since the completion of this project and have been out of the country. Considering the deadline was within 10 hours, I think it was rather urgent.
Back on topic, The project opens fine on the two G5 Dual 2ghz but then gives a "Cant open project file" when I try to open the file(s) off the media drive/server/just project file with unconnected files on my powerbook.
Both versions are the same, G5s have a volume licence and the PB has its own version of FCP5 (not studio).
Not only did the un-documented error present a giant loss in productivity but neither several respected forums or apple support could help. "Work on the other machine" simply wasnt a option. Short of sumbitting a offline again as a rush, I need to fix this problem now. -
Im using premiere element 9 getting serious error occurred force to close can't open project crashes
Im using Mac and recently when openning projects in premiere 9 i get serious error occurred force close. It was working and my computer crashed and new hardware was installed. I was able to do one project before this started. I can edit and complete my video but cant burn or reopen the project without get the error message and closes. How do i repair?
What was it that Meatload said, "two out of three ain't bad... ?"
Glad that two Projects burned properly.
Before you trash that one Project, I would do this little exercise:
Move all of your Assets (your Media files) to another folder, so that PrE cannot find them. That part is much easier, if you set up your Project in its own folder structure, with sub-folders containing all media used.
Then Open that Project. In the loading process, you should get a dialog screen, asking "Where is file ______?" At that point, navigate to the new location, that you Moved the files to. PrE will then re-link to that first file, and then survey the PREL (Project) file, and re-link to every file used in the Project. If the media is in several sub-folders, you will need to repeat that navigation to the respective sub-folder.
Then, test the Project to see if that re-linking has "fixed" things.
If not, then the Project is probably corrupt.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
