Can't open PSD? 0 bytes?

Hello, I have Photoshop CS5.1 and Windows 8.
I have been having an issue with opening a PSD file and I can't seem to find someone asking the same question anywhere. My issues is that I have a .psd file that was fine yesterday but today I tried to open it and photoshop (I have CS5.1) automatically opens up the box for making a new file (asks me the canvas size etc.) instead of opening the already made file I have been working on over the last few days. I have tried to type in a canvas size and hit "OK" to see what happens but it just opens a new file not the one I selected to open. I also tried to open it as a Smart Object (it just opened a blank new file) and also just dragged it into a new file just to see what would happen, I got this message:
I checked out the properties and found that it has "0 bytes"
I also tried to open it in PaintTool SAI (since I know it supports PSD files) and it refused to open it.
Any suggestions? I tried restarting the computer a few times and reopening things but it doesn't work.
I also am not sure what Adobe means by "the Explorer" in that message above.

The "Explorer" is Windows speak for your File Manager. Below you see an "Explorer window" not the same as Internet Explorer.
If your file somehow got corrupted, Windows 8 has a feature called "File History", where you can get an earlier uncorrupted version.
If you did not set up File History, you should have a "Shadow Copy" and should download "shadow explorer to retrieve it.

Actually you can open a CS3 file with smart filters in CS2
the only problem is CS2 will not understand the Smart filter and flatten it.
If you leave the smart filtered object alone in CS2 save the file and it should still be a smart filtered object in CS3

Can't open psd doc in photoshop cc

Hi,
I just downloaded the photoshop cc trail, and I am having issues opening psd documents. I am using windows 8. The document is a .7z file. I was able to open the file just fine on a mac, but can't do it here on my pc. When I try and open it, I get an error message reading, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
Any suggestions?

.7z is to the best of my knowledge a compressed file format. You can't open it in PS, you need to uncompress it first by using for instance 7Zip : http://www.7-zip.org/
Then hopefully you can find your image file inside of it...

Photoshop CS 5.1 - can't open psd files

Hi,
I have Photoshop CS 5.1 32bit and 64bit (running on 64bit windows), and sometimes it happens that I can't open files (jpg, psd, ...) in it. When I drag and drop a file to photoshop, or click on Open file dialog, or even try to make a new document, nothing happens.
I have tried tricks with deleting preferences, but it didn't help. The only thing that helps is restarting windows - but this is not a practical solution for me.
I would expect some help from Adobe on this, since we pay a lot for their products!

what happens if you right click fw>click 'run as administrator'? - same error.
i have to give local administrator rights to users that they can work with psd files.

Can't open PSD file to layers in Illustrator CS6 for editing?

I need to edit a Photoshop PSD file that has layers.
I believe vector lines can be edited in Photoshop but I only have PS Elements and can only edit the text.
I do have Illustrator CS6 but when I open the PSD file it will not open to separate layers, even if I choose this in the open options.
Maybe Illustrator cannot do this?
Can anyone advise please?

If you set up the file accordingly: yes.
You have to take special care of some stuff. Search for it on this forum or the manual. It has been discussed here.

Can't open PSD file after reinstall windows 7 64 bit

After reinstalling windows 7 stopped opening some files PSD files. I try to open them with Photoshop version 6, it does not work. I tried to open them on the laptop, same garbage. Tell me what the problem is. And how to fix it.

Perhaps these files were corrupted. I can not say how it happened, but it is quite possible. And the files are no longer open, immediately after reinstalling windows? Or not?
If so, it is quite rare in my opinion. You are very unlucky. Try reinstalling photoshop. Then check these files were opened or not. If not. Then the only option is a special software. I would use on your site this program

Can't open psd file on my moniter screen

My situation is similar. I saved a PDF on my Windows 7 laptop to my iCloud drive. I can open the PDF from my iCloud drive on that laptop. I can see the file in Finder on my iMac (running OS X Yosemite 10.10) in the iCloud Drive folder (PDFs) containing the file. I can even see a preview of the file in Finder. However, when I try to open it by double-clicking it, I get "The file "<filename>.pdf" couldn't be opened". If I launch Preview and try to open the file from my iCloud drive, I get the same result. I've tried logging out/logging back in to iCloud on both the Windows 7 laptop and the iMac to no avail.

Can I open PSD Video files in premiere elements 12?

I have Photoshop CS6 and would like to purchase a video editing software. My question is if I purchase Premiere Elements 12, will I be able to open PSD video files from photoshop in the Premiere Elements?

Ps CS 6 (and the Extended version back to CS 4) can edit Video (limited Import capabilities, and limited Export capabilities). However, Ps will NOT Export any Video as a PSD. The PSD format is the Ps native Image format, and is output via Save.
My *assumption* was that the PSD was a Still Image, that was perhaps going to be animated in Video via Keyframing the Fixed Effects, such as Motion>Position, over time, as there is no PSD Video. Perhaps my assumption was incorrect, as to what the OP has, and wishes.
In Ps CS 6, Video output will be to a standard Video format/CODEC, but the list of available formats/CODEC's is very limited, compared to Premiere.
Maybe I am just misunderstanding what the OP is looking to do?

PS crashed... can't open psd file

My PS Crashed while working on a project and PS doesn't want to open the file again...
I tried a few things like copie&past in an other folder and to rename it but al of these things doesn't work...
I tried to open the file with Irfanview but then there is just a black screen...
Do you know if there is a temp file or something to open the file again ? can i repaire it ?

yeah next time I will do it ! but it's sad that it is gone ... but i mean when i have the file and erase the cache in the bridge it is there but photoshop can't open it and others like irfanview neither ...

I have no idea to what is going on, but I did all this work and now that I try to reopen the psd file, I can't.
I don't see anything, no layer, no photo nothing.
I am using window xp. got the scratch setup on an external drive with plenty of space. got 4gof memory and plenty of processing power.
once again I can see the thumbnail but can't open the psd file.

I got it to work. I think my main problem was since my psd file crashed I was using existing pdf to save as psd. well that didn't go well with photoshop. Plus the fact my scratch was in an external location. Once I recreated the drawing and installed an additional hard-drive where I relocated the scratch file I was set to go. I now can save and reopen the file with no issues.

Photoshop cs4 - Can't open .psd files in Bridge

I cannot open .psd files in Bridge, only .jpg and .tif, as far as I know. The .psd files are flattened--no layers. What's wrong?

Generated in PS cs4...always starting with a .jpg, working on it, then saving as .psd.
I open Bridge, navigate to the file I want to work on. The round icon that is for opening files in Camera Raw is grayed out. It IS available for .jpg and .tif files. If I go to the File menu in the upper left, there is no option to open the .psd file in Bridge. If I just click Open, the file will open in the default program I use for quickly viewing all photos (Irfanview).

I hope I don't need to designate .psd files to always open in Photoshop in order to get this to work. I have all photo types set to Open for quick viewing in Irfanview, which I like very much. Often I want to look at a .psd file w/o opening Photoshop, which takes a while to load.

Had both CS4 and CS6 installed, CS4 Bridge added itself when I wanted just CS6 Bridge, so uninstalled CS4. Now cannot open psd files from SC6 Bridge. What do I do?.

What is Bridge doing when you try to open the PSD file? Do you get a warning, does nothing happen? Did you open the preferences in CS6 bridge and set the file opening preferences to make sure they are set to PS CS6?
