Can't open QT over network to Leopard Mac

Hi
We have a number of Mac Pro's some running Tiger and others running Leopard. I can open any quicktime file over our network from a PC to any Tiger Mac, but not to a Leopard Mac. Why not? I can see the files I can open any other file type, just not QT. Copy the same file over from a Leopard Mac to one of the Tiger Mac's and I can open it from the Windows PC. This would not be such an issue, but we are dealing with 1920x1080 uncompressed files and it is a real pain to move them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has Spotlight finished its indexing? Check in the upper right. If you get just the search field, it has, if it says its indexing, you have to wait before you can use anything.

Now a purchased a macbook (Laptop computer).
Using the laptop, I can wirelessly see my hard drive on the

On my laptop, using finder, I can see all the window apps

I didn't move anything - So I'm not sure why I can open Vista

VMware on my imac and it can't find Vista using my laptop.

Try the following steps, which has helped other users find shared printers. This has been copied from Apple Support Article: HT2275
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard uses Bonjour to locate shared printers on your local network, but it does not display printers shared by Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9 which are broadcast to the network using the "cups" protocol. The steps below will allow Mac OS X 10.5 to locate shared printers which are being announced to the network using the "cups" protocol:
1. Open Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities).
2. Type or paste this command, followed by Return:
cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'
The next time you add a printer, you should see printers shared by Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9. These printers will display "Shared Printer" in the Kind column. You may see printers shared by Mac OS X 10.4 or later appearing twice (once as a "Bonjour Shared" printer and once as a "Shared Printer") after completing these steps.
To revert back to the default behavior in Mac OS X 10.5, you can remove "BrowseProtocols dnssd cups" from the CUPS configuration file, or reset the printing system.

We open file error

This happens when using the recent file/items from within Safari.
The workaround seems to be to logout then login again. Or some seem to think that you should re-login with the UserName being case sensitive.
I have a hard time duplicating this problem but is does in fact occur and I have a ScreenShot.

Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.

There is a chance the spreadsheets were made with a Numbers or AppleWorks version so old that it's not compatible anymore with the latest Numbers version (yes this can happen)

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

Can't Open Microsoft Word 2011 on my Mac it crashes

I am hoping someone can help me. I can not open microsoft word 2011 on my mac book air (maverick operating system).
The problem actually did not happen until apple care helped me get rid of some malaware on my mac.
However as I google the problem and it seems to be something happening to a lot of people. I went thorough many forums and tried everything suggested (ie http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macexcel/microsoft-excel-has-encountered-a-problem-and/222d7f46-a092-4d8d-8f9d-e48c8a1a90ec?tab=MoreHelp)
I also restored the fonts and used another account user and it still does not work.
Does anyone have a suggestion. I am about to give up and use pages because I do not know what to do, I am stumped.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

Can you open a closed network?

I can no longer access the secure wi fi network set up on my Mac Pro, and must use the (insecure) network that came with my router. The regular network name doesn't show as an available network, but I know it is still there because both the name and security type appear when I click "advanced" on System Preferences/Network. I have apparently changed my regular network to "closed" by accident.
I have tried unsuccessfully to sign in as "other network", providing security type and passwork, but it doesn't work.
I need a way to open this closed network. Is this possible? How?
If it is impossible, what must I do to start over?

Or the network is no longer available, temporarly shut down, or you were purposely locked out. Contact the network admin.

Photos can't open library from network share

Hi all,
I have a Mac Mini connected to a promise R4 storage that I use for network sharing.
My iPhotos Library was stored on it and I was able to open it from my iMac and my Macbook Pro with iPhoto over the network.
I've upgraded my Mac Mini to 10.10.3 and so to Photos for Mac.
The iPhotos Library has been upgraded to Photos and I am able to open it on the Mac Mini.
But I'am no more able to open it over the network with Photos for Mac from my iMac or my Macbook Pro.
I get the following message :
"The library could not be opened. Photos has attempted to repair the library 'Photos Library', but it is unable to open it."
Is there a workaround to be able to open the Photos library over the network ?

'Truth' is the reason.
Syncing requires that one place of storage is considered to be the 'truth' to function correctly.
In olden days iSync used the first Mac as 'the truth'. Now iCloud uses Apples servers. Tim Cook mentioned this when iCloud was released (or maybe it was S. Jobs) - it is a fundamental part of how iCloud is different to iSync & the old ways.
That means devices only have to check in with Apples servers to get the latest data. There is no requirement for all devices to be online & up to date with this system.
Previously the Mac with the 'truth store' needed to connect to Apple & then other Macs (or devices) needed to get data from Apple. If the 'truth Mac' went offline for an extended time it could cause many conflicts when it finally went back online.
It seems like a simple feature (Mac to Mac syncing with no internet), but it isn't the way devices & connectivity is going. Devices are getting cheaper, that means more devices per person, having them on the same network is not always how the devices are used.
If you want Mac to Mac syncing use Dropbox - Apple don't need to reinvent it - it already exists. Just be aware of the inability of the Photos db to work shared like that.

Crashing in PS CS and Quark when opening files over network

Mac Pro and MacBook Pro 10.4.8 using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Quark 6.52 will crash or become VERY unstable when opening files from server or remote machine. Server is 10.3.9 or remote Mac running 10.4.7, all works fine IF file are copied to client machine, but cannot use -File/Open dialog. This is a network isue in relation to Intel translation, is there a fix (Rosetta?)

Try looking for some "special" characters in file or folder names ( e.g. / or ?).
I had similar problems with PPC-Apps (InDesign CS2 and 4D Client 2003) since 10.4.7 and 10.4.8. App crashes or shows strange grey boxes on the screen when I tried to open files over the network, no probs with same files locally.
