Can't open Quark or Dreamweaver

Migrated all my data from one laptop to new MBPro on 1/1/2010. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to 10.6.4. Now I can't open Quark or Dreamweaver. I have client work and am getting very frustrated. Have been reading on various forums, have asked for support from Quark and am getting nowhere. It will cost me a lot of money to do the upgrades that both Adobe and Quark techs are saying I need to "make things work," yet posts from others indicate the upgrades may not solve the problems.
Does anyone have any advice on where I should turn next? I have been using Quark products since 1993 and am very very frustrated that their only solution is to spend $299 for an upgrade.
Thank you for any assistance.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Cheaper would be $120 for a downgrade. Either your backup, if you have one, or making two backups and recovering information in a piecemeal after an erase and instal would be cheaper.
In the future only upgrade AFTER you verify all your software and drivers have caught up with the upgrade on production systems. Just because Apple says it is "recommended" for all systems, an upgrade will not necessarily fix problems with your system. If you have other underlying problems they often will only get exacerbated by an update, unless the update was specifically written to address those issues. Most upgrade documentation states what they are written to address.

  • After installing Lion, can't open Quark files?

Can't open Quark files after installing Lion.
It says "You can't open the application QuarkXpress because Power PC applications are no longer supported."
    What does that mean???
    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa,
you must be using an older version of QuarkXPress.
QuarkXPress 7.01 (and higher) and 8.x are Universal Binary, so can run natively on both PowerPC-based Macs as well as Intel-based Macs. QuarkXPress 9 (9.1 is current) is an Intel-only application. So theoretically you need to use at least 7.01.
However since version 9.1 QuarkXPress is officially supported on Lion, so Version 9 is probably your best option on OS X 10.7.x.
    Thanks

  • Dreamweaver's toolbar suddenly disappeared and I can't open files with Dreamweaver

I am using Dreamweaver CS5. I use it practically every day and have for several years.
Suddenly, when I open Dreamweaver, the toolbar items (File, Tools, Windows) don't show up and when I try to open a file using Dreamweaver from the Finder, nothing happens either. The application seems to open but nothing shows up or works.
A few days ago, I had to restore everything from Time Machine after a hardware fix at Apple. Dreamweaver worked fine for a few hours, then this happened....
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Dreamweaver - no difference.
Does anyone understand what the problem might be? Maybe some small setting, extension, or file?

I'd try clearing the program cache: Deleting a corrupted cache file
Then Restoring Prefs if the above doesn't work: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html
Then a clean reinstall if neither work: Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Can't open or uninstall Dreamweaver?

I downloaded the free trial weeks ago and haven't used it
since. I'm trying to open it and it keeps saying "Error: 1". I have
tried multiple time to uninstall it, but nothing shows up. I think
it may have been caused by a trojan my computer got last week. No
worries, I cleaned it all away. What should I do now?

why some seconds after this post cc now works? thanks i guess...

  • Can I Open a CS6 File in CS5?

So I guess the question asks it all.
Can I open an Adobe Dreamweaver html doucment in CS5 if I've made it in CS6?
Just wondering cause I want to do some work on a project at home.
Thanks in advance, hope this question isn't too noobish (it probably is...)

Absolutely.  You might not see all the new GUI features (ie: fluid grid), but the code will remain the same.

  • How can I open quarkxpress 8 files with indesign?

Hi, prior to purchasing CC a sales person whom I spoke with using online chat confirmed that InDesign would open QuarkXpress files and a plugin was already in the application.
I can't open any quark files from InDesign. Can this be done without purchasing a third party plug-in?
    Thanks in advance

InDesign can natively open Quark 4.x and 3.x files only. To open anything
later you’ll need a copy of Q2ID from Markzware.

  • Error message: "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg files"

    I'm using DW 8, and I have installed the 8.0.2 update. I'm
having trouble inserting certain JPG images into a site. I get an
error message pop-up that states "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg
files". It will allow me to insert some jpg files, but not all of
them. I've tried drag & drop and going through the Insert menu.
The files are not large at all. Doesn't appear to be any problem
with png's or gif's. It's incredibly frustrating. Anyone have any
    suggestions? TIA.

    > why was i taught that all my web images need
    > to be in 72dpi if it doesn't really matter?
most people suggest 72 because it was an old standard with
    the early
macintosh DTP programs. For web use it's easier to
    standardize on it because
when you make an image, you have to put ~some~ number in the
    resolution box
and it might as well be 72 as any other number. It simplifies
    moving image
files around in different applications if they are all the
    same resolution.
For display in a browser, these will all have the same file
    size and display
    size in a web page:
    600x600 pixels at 1dpi
    600x600 pixels at 72dpi
    600x600 pixels at 6000dpi
It's when they are used in other applications or when a
    direct url like
/photos/1.jpg is printed out that they may display in the
    resolution, not
    the pixel dimension.
I came across a page once where the designer always saved his
    images with a
resolution of 6000 dpi or some other odd number because he
    thought that if
people dragged the image off the page to save it- most of
    them wouldn't be
able to resize it. or some other idiot reason maybe.

  • Can I open Proto files in Dreamweaver?

Can I export a file from Proto to Dreamweaver?

I did some testing based on feedback here. I currently see slightly different behavior between the Android and iPad(iOS) versions. Either works, the iOS process requires a few more steps.
    For Android:
If you upload the project from within the app to the Adobe Creative Cloud it creates a .zip version of your project. This can then be downloaded and unzipped on a computer. To access the files on the computer you need to open the Creative Cloud website within a browser and download the file. The Adobe Creative Cloud address is https://creative.adobe.com/ . After you download the .zip file and unzip its contents, it contains the actual html and css files which can be opened within Dreamweaver.
    For iOS:
The process is very similar to what is described for Android however, the file extension on iOS is .pro. The .pro file contains some additional files but still contains a compressed copy of the project which can be opened in Dreamweaver. When you download the .pro file you will still need to uncompress it with some kind of .zip type utiliity (like Stuffit Expander). The .pro file once unzipped contains a renditions folder, within that folder is a html.zip file which is the project itself (needs to be unzipped as well).
It does work on either Window or Mac with either the Android or iOS version. You need to transfer the file through the Adobe Creative Cloud, but like mentioned previously, you can just set up an account for free.
    Hope that helps,
    -Dave

  • Can't open my files in Dreamweaver CS3..

The program opens but I can't open either my local or my remote files. Please help! As soon as I try to open a file, Dreamweaver crashes and i have to close it. I had a brief chance earlier today to update a couple of html pages but then it stopped working again. I have no idea what caused it. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of. up until, this program has worked excellently for me.
    Please help.

You need to rename the Configuration folder to Configuration_BU.
The folder can be found by following this http://www.dmxzone.com/go/16740/clearing-dreamweaver-s-cache/

As has been mentioned, the software in Mac OS X that supported the running of PPC applications rather than current Intel applications on Intel computers such as your MBP was last seen in Snow Leopard. However, since I believe your MBP originally came with Snow Leopard, you may be able to boot from the DVD's that came with the computer and install it on an external HD and try to install Quark on that.
I think a better solution would be to buy Snow Leopard Server from Apple by phone (800-692-7753 and be specific about wanting part # MC588Z/A), installing it as a virtual machine in software like VMware Fusion, and then installing Quark 6 in that. You'll still need a license number to authorize the Quark installation.

  • Dreamweaver can't open any files

Today installed Dreamweaver CC on my new MacBook Air and when i tried to open a .html file i simple saw flash of the screen that should appear with my code and then it went back to the start up screen. I can create new files, edit, and save them. However i can't open anything. The files that i tried to open were made on my windows machine running Dreamweaver CC as well so i doubt it any compatibility. Yes, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it had mad not difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure your system's hidden files are viewable, then clear the program cache and/or restore preferences...

If neither of those work, do a clean & reinstall using the Adobe Cleaner tool:

  • Dreamweaver can't open .class files

    Using:
    Dreamweaver CS4 Version 10 Build 4117
on Microsoft Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
I'm trying to edit Menalto PHP Gallery files via Dreamweaver. Some of Gallery's core php module files use the .class file extension. I want the following extensions to be treated as PHP files in Dreamewaver.
    phtml, class, cpt
I added these extensions to the following files.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\Extensions.txt
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\Extensions.txt
I set Vista to use Dreamweaver as the default program for opening .class files.
    I have restarted the computer.
I can open up phtml and cpt files just fine.  However, when I try and open .class files, I get the error:
    Dreamweaver can't open .class files
Please choose an HTML, XML, or other compatible file
I used Dreamweaver to create a new file in the Dreamweaver file pannel.  I called the new file test.class and opened it up in notepad.  Dreamweaver is successfully pre-populating the test.class file with the default PHP template.
So Dreamweaver is creating the test.class file using the default PHP template, but it still can't open .class files in Dreamweaver.
I think this might be a reserved extension or something.  Anyone else had a similar problem?

Hey, I gave up myself.  While I still use Dreamweaver for layout (HTML, images) work and for synching my website via SFTP, I don't code PHP in it anymore. Dreamweaver really isn't a PHP development IDE.  So, I do all my PHP work in something called NetBeans.  It is less user friendly but once you set it up... my goodness... is it great for coding PHP.  So Dreamweaver for visual stuff and HTML stuff.  NetBeans for PHP app development.  That's my suggestion.

No, he said that DW gives him an error message: "Can't open
    JPEG file" and
won't allow him to insert the file.
