Can't open Safari and MacHelp
hi there,
strangely, from yesterday afternoon, ive got problems with opening some of the applications (in the morning everything was perfect and nothing really odd happened in between).
whenever i try to open safari and OS X help, it opens-loads..-and closes and i get the message that 'the application quit unexpectedly' blee and that Mac OS and other applications are not affected. thats all. so basically i cant use these two, all the others seem to work fine. one more thing is that since it occured, my power book starts up really slowly, it takes about 2 minutes to get it going. why?
i tried to sort it out in a simple way, so i run disc utillity thing and i fixed permissions and i run disc repair from the install disc level (as there was some Volume Header error - whatever it is..),and..nothing. the only good thing is that now there is no errors on my hard drive. i also checked it all with apple hardwere test and its all fine.
im not sure if that puts any light on my problem, but im coping in here the report i get after safarii closes:

Dr. Smoke's Troubleshooting Help Viewer is an excellent resource for fixing the help viewer.
For Safari you may wish to trash the com.apple.safari.plist file (this will set Safari back to default settings) and try starting the application.
Best of luck,

HT1338 i can not open safari and it says safari quit unexpectedly
i can not open safari and it says safari quit unexpectedly
Right or control click the Safari app in the Applications folder then click Get Info
If you see version 5.1.6 or 5.1.7 in the Get Info panel, updating to Safari 6 may help.
Apple has not posted a standalone Safari 6 installer, but there is a work around.
Click here > Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Then click the link posted by: gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file > Safari6Lion.pkg.download
Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari. -
Can't Open Safari and Word at Same Time
Urged my daughter-in-law to replace her old PC with a new iMac. she did and loves it. But now ther is this glitch that she has asked me for help with. I am stuck — thinking there was a simple selection item somewhere. But if there is, I can't find it. any ideas? Basically, the problem is this: when she trys to rum Safari and Word at the same time, one window disappears when the other application is selected in the dock. Then the other application will appear when selected but the one in the window disappears — nothing crashes. Here's how she describes it:
I could see both windows when I had iphoto and itunes open, but it wouldn't let me have itunes and word open simultaneously, or itunes and safari open simultaneously, or word and safari open simultaneously (as we already knew). I could have iCal open with the other programs at the same time (I just wanted to try another program in the dock to see what happened). I dunno... still it doesn't seem like a faulty operating system.... just a quirky way of organizing opened windows.... I wonder if it has to do anything with the function of using the command + tab function to scroll through open programs. I vaguely remember setting that up, or finding that function somewhere when I first was getting used to this computer and maybe that has something to do with it.
Any ideas? Is she using an account with parental controls enabled and the Simple Finder option turned on?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8166.html
If not, the only other thing that comes to mind (other than Spaces issues, which I don't use and thus can't comment on) is that maybe she's holding down the option key when switching apps, or has installed some third-party software that does this sort of thing.
Edit: I knew I'd seen this recently... someone else was having this problem due to LaunchBar:

HT1338 after recent update, I can not open Safari and Mail. Please help this out!
error message:" The last time you opened Safari, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?"
Same error message from mail. Thanks!Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
â Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
â In the Finder, select Go â¹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
â Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View â¹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

I downloaded the new iOS 7 and i can't open safari in my iPad mini, what's going on?
I downloaded the new iOS 7 and i can't open safari in my iPad mini, what's going on?
You can't open it meaning it does not launch when you tap on the app icon? If that's what's happening try this and then see if Safari will launch.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Now close Safari. To close Safari, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to Safari and then swipe "up" on the Safari thumbnail app to close it.
Now reboot the iPad. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If Safari does launch and this isn't what you are experiencing - you need to explain in more detail what is going on. -
I can't open safari. I tried Mac HD to library...it does not show a input manager, only methods and there are no files associated with it. This just started this
morning. Firefox works.Hi,
There are two libraries. One is System one is your User account.
InputManagers folder is in the system library.
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder. The Input Managers folder is in there.
I think you are looking in your "users folder" which you can access in the same Finder window by selecting your user account (it has a small house icon).
I saw your post here. https://discussions.apple.com/message/15025894#15025894
If you think you have the Community Toolbar installed you need to check these folders.
/Library/Application Support/ Move the Conduit file to the Trash.
/Library/Application Support/ Move all of these files to the Trash: SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
/Library/InputManagers/ Move CTLoader to the Trash.
/Library/Receipts/ Move ctloader.pkg to the Trash.
/Library/ScriptingAdditions/ Move any Conduit / CTLoader related files in that folder to the Trash.
/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/ Move Conduit to the Trash.

My 1st generation i-pad has been acting up lately. Can't open: safari, email, facebook, i-book and other apps, it keeps crashing. Is there a solution outside of replacing it.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that didn't help either, try restoring your iPad > iTunes: Restoring iOS software -
I open safari and one site takes me to their app in the store automatically. How can I prevent this?
some sites that use flash (or other issues) dont want you trying to view the site in your browser on an ios device, because they know it will not be a good experience - they detect your device, and if it is an ios device they want you to use their app instead of your browser.

I downloaded Safari 5.1. Open Safari box appears and reads:"Can't open Safari, missing file Libicuuc.dll.Reinstall Safari. Tried that no luck.
I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.
The tip posted by Linc on Oct 3, 2011 9:22 AM, resolved the issue.
Thanks Linc!
HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
It did not work?
Does anybody have any ideas/solutions regarding this issue? This is becoming VERY aggravating! -

Can not open safari. When I launch safari it opens and closes very quickly
I have an internet connection but I can not open safari, my apps that require internet connection still work. When I launch safari it opens and closes very quickly. I have tried rebooting the Ipad several times, and have already cleared the history, cache and cookies. Please Help!!
As Michael says - a reset will most probably fix this.
Here are instructions on how to do this should you not have your manual handy:
And the iPad Manual:

Please let us know how it works out.
Best of luck..

Opened Safari and it has an open window that says "Congratulations you are the winner for April 11th. Please select your prize and enter your email" I did not follow the link but I can't quit safari. Can't shut down either Safari stops my request. How do I get Safari to be normal again?

when Update to 10.7.2 ,I cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.
OS:10.7.2
Macbook Pro 2010-mid 13inchI also have the same problem, however if I use Firefox or Opera sites with ssl connection work fine. Still, I can't use Google Chrome (ssl), Safari (ssl), the Mac app store (generally), or the iTunes store (generally). Both the iTunes store, Safari and the app store won't respond, and Chrome displays this error: (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT). The problem persists regardless of what network I'm using. Also, when trying to access the keychain or iCloud, the process will not start (will hang). I didn't have these problems at all before updating to 10.7.2.
Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes not. If the problem disappears by rebooting, then it only lasts a few minutes before it reappears. It is very frustrating, especially since there doesn't seem to be any obvious or consistent way of which to fix it.
I'm also using a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2010. -
Can't open Safari 5.1.7 in 10.6.8 on Macbookpro
Dear fellow Mac users,
Today I got a Software notification to upgrade to Safari 5.1.7 and there was also a Java update. I went ahead and subsequently I can't open Safari without getting the 'there was a problem' messgae. So I started searching this forum and found a few things. I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8 as someone said this resolved their problem but it resulted in giving me Safari 5.05 which also had problems so I downloaded Safari 5.1.7 and updated it and it wouldn't open again. I also tried logging in on a different account and still it wouldn't open. Now I'm a bit stuck and am not sure what to look for in this report below. Does anyone else have any wisdom as to what mgiht be the problem. Many thanks in advance Damon

Great, so now we've been able to rule out a few possibilities either by analysis or empirical testing...
I came here because I was helping out some people who did have problems with SafariStand and Security update 2013-001 for Snow Leopard and this was one of the "More like this" linked by apple discussions.
Hopefully DamonUK followed your initial advice and has resolved his problems. Probably I should have noticed that you gave the best solution without needing to explain the log. But seeing as he has not responded to your initial post or marked it as answered I have offered my limited expereience too.
FWIW I can see that there is no mention of SIMBL or its plugins in the list of binary images in the crash log but how can you tell from the log that this doesn't involve extensions? What would be different if it did involve them?
I mean, is this because of an absense in the log (like even I can see that SIMBL isn't there) or becasue the OP's description and Dyld Error Message preclude it being an extensions issue?
( Don't worry I'm not requesting a tutorial - no doubt I can find one online if I want to learn in depth - but you clearly know what you're talking about so I'm interested how your conclusions are reached. )
"Networking is not disabled in safe mode."
I'm happy to be corrected if I have given factually wrong information.
I should have said WiFi is generally disabled in Safe Boot mode in Snow Leopard and others (along with Spotlight in my experience). As most people network via wifi these days, there is a strong probability that wifi won't work for DamonUK, though ethernet networking is still available.
"Repairing permissions is a waste of time unless you have an indication of a permission error involving system files, which this poster does not."
Nonetheless, as I stated, "it never harms to run disk utility and repair permissions when in Safe mode."
True, repairing permissions not the panacea many believe it to be, but it does no harm and some users will be surprised at the permissions errors that do get picked up over time (excluding the numerous repeated ones that Apple says it is safe to ignore).
Finally, I would think that a dyld error won't be harmed and wonder if it might even be helped by a safe boot as it removes dynamic loader shared caches at /var/db/dyld/
I don't know if Safe Boot will help (I understand it is usually helpful in a bluescreen boot siuation) but it won't harm and if he finds he can launch Safari in safe mode, at least that is progress.
