Can't Open Slideshow that's in Progress - iPhoto 11

I am not able to open a slideshow I have been working on in iPhoto 11. When I click to open, I get the spinning wheel of death and it does not stop. When I open the Activity Monitor, it says iPhoto is not responding and I have to Force Close in order to close iPhoto. I don't have any problems opening any photos in my library so the photos aren't corrupt.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I need to complete the slideshow and burn to DVDs for an event on Saturday.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Backup the library and try the fixes below in order as necessary:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

whoever is emailing you the photos is sending them as a .zip file not a .jpg most likely because there is more than one photo. unfortunately iPhone does not have a .zip file reader so whoever is emailing the photos has to make sure they are not zip ing them and resend them as .jpg files. (usually gmail tries to convert several images into .zip files)

I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.

A bit confused. Are you saying your friends are using your itunes on your laptop to buy apps and that you are then syncing them to your iphone?
"..friends have downloaded.." - downloaded from where (or perhaps they downloaded directly from itunes store to your iphone?). Are we talking about a jailbroken iphone?

Can't open files that are downloaded

Hi,
I can't open up the files that are downloaded. When I try to open them up, they all say "the file may be corrupted". What's going on and how can I fix this?

I am having trouble opening .dmg, .xls, and .ppt files. Most recently I tried to download a printer driver from the HP website that is a .dmg and it opened a window to save a binary file and saved as a Quicktime file. The .ppt file was a forward in an email and the .xls file was a file from another Mac. I have no idea why this is happening.

I have an unusually large (for me) MPEG file that I succeeded in downloading and viewing sometime in the last year and a half, and I kept it on my disk despite its being over 3GB because I thought I might want to look at it again. Now I do, only it won't open: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." I tried using Time Machine to bring back earlier versions of QuickTime - 7.5 and 7.5.5 as I recall; I now have 7.6.2 - but these wouldn't open the file either, so I figure it may have something to do with a change in the system. In any event, should it be possible to open this file (again, it did open previously, with no problem), and if so how? Thanks.

I have a similar major problem and wonder if it its to do with file sizes or codecs. I recorded video at work from a laparoscopic medical camera and output the video at the end of the session from the device's hard-drive to my 16GB memory stick. It is a 750Mb with file extension .mp4 and I now get exactly the same message as others if try to open it with Quick time (I can't open it with anything else either and nor could our medical illustration department). I bought the quick time pro upgrade as was told that would probably work and got same problem. Interestingly, I have had a second problem today having worked on a separate movie I put together in i-movie that I had recorded from a hi-def panasonic camcorder, imported and successfully edited (with ease) in i-movie and exported it "uncompressed" as a quicktime movie. It was only 5mins of video and produced a 15GB file. I wanted to save this onto a 16GB memory stick, but found out that the FAT32 folder system doesn't allow that file size! So, I formatted the memory stick to "Mac extended journalled", and was able to save the entire file onto the stick. But, now it won't open in quick time! I get the same message as above! Does anybody have any idea what these two issues might be?

Safari can't open pages that Firefox can

If there is a break in connectivity when Safari is loading a page, it says it can't load the page. When connectivity is back on, Safari still can't load the page. Firefox can. I empty the cache and reset the cache, as well as shutting Safari down and restarting it, but none of that seems to work and the crap program still can't load the page.
Any clues as to how to get Safari to do what it is supposed to do?

I've had this issue ever since owning my macbook with leopard (nov 2007) Safari will display:
Safari can’t find the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://whatever page you wanted” because it can’t find the server “watever website”.
This error is completely random and doesnt always effect the same site. I could be on paypal looking at my account then the next moment trying to click a link in paypal I get the cant find sever page. Now the entire paypal site will no longer pull up. I can still surf other pages just nothing that revolves around paypal.
And again its not paypal only. Just about any sites. There is no set number of sites that pulls this up. However, I can use Camino on the same site on the same computer and while Safari pulls up a can not find Camino pulls it up just fine.
Something is wrong with how Safari handles/translates websites. I have tried disabling IPv6 but it doesn nothing to it. Since I have had this error for a few months I have concluded it is an error with Safari as another browser on the same computer and network settings work just fine.
The only way to get the site to pull back up is to reboot the computer (Clearing cache or resetting safari does nothing to help)

Up until 2 days ago I never had a problem like this but on both mine and my girlfriends computers we can't open the same webpages, like photobucket.com but i know the sites working. I was using safari and also tried to use explorer and firefox to view the site but its not working, anyone know how to fix this besides reinstalling osx. oh yeah i also do not have any updates to dl

Your problem may be caused by two Internet companies who are currently having a dispute and are not allowing direct connections between their networks. This problem is also affecting some people's email. Not everyone is affected because some people have alternate routes around the disconnect.

Error mssg: can't open library with this version of iphoto

Help please... I have iphoto 09 but I can't open anything. For some reason, I have multiple copies of the library on my desktop. The message says I made changes and can't open with this version. One of the library folders says Library6.iphoto, which makes no sense.
Here is what I have done recently to maybe cause this?
- I did drag one library out of the trash yesterday (due to paranoia from a previous case of deleting ALL my photos).
-I also deleted photos from my photobooth from within Finder in the "today" section.
I hope this make sense, I am pretty much a newbie still.
Anyway, I can't open any photos. I don't know why, or what's with all the multiples.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

This is an element that should be inside an iPhoto Library. I wonder if it belongs inside this one:
When I use the alt/option key and choose library, there is a third library that will not open, with the message saying "cannot open, changes have been made, and to use a newer version".
If not, you can find the location of this Library easily: When you use the alt key to choose Libraries the location of the Library is given to you:

You could try rebuild that Library by downloading iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Can't open CD that came with a textbook. CD is for Windows and I have MacBook Pro

There was CD that came along with a textbook I recently purchased. The CD states it is for Windows 95/98/2000/XP. Is there anything out there that would enable me to open it on my MacBook Pro? iPhone? iPad (1)? Someone in my class mentioned something about "wine" or "win e" but I haven't been able to determine what that means. Any help is appreciated. I'd really like to use the CD for studying.

An inexpensive program called Crossover Mac can be used to create an environment in which some (by no means all) Windows-based software can run on a Mac without the expense and hassle of actually installing Windows on it. Crossover Mac is available in a free demo version that you can try out to see whether it enables the software on your CD to run. If that doesn't work out, you'll need to install Windows on your Mac.
