Can't open some Canon D60 RAW files

Hi to all!
I have an issue with RAW fles. Most of the files is readable and can be edited but small percent of the files is not. Seems like problem with OS X 10.4.8 because neather Preview or iPhoto wan't accept this files too.
Thank you for help

I have this issue too.
I have a bunch of D60 files that can't be opened at all although they open fine in any other raw convertor.
Converting them to DNG may help though. Somehow they open fine then...
I'm going to file a bugreport and upload a couple of sample files.

  • Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR.  Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not.  I can think of only one thing.  I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen?  I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.  Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.
    Alex

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
Here is technical information on the reduce-sized RAWs:

  • Can't open a dng or raw file in cs5, just stops working. So many problems in cs5!

I totally feel for you. Just upgraded from cs4 to cs5 and it was the  biggest mistake i ever made. It will probably end my livelihood as a  photographer since EVERY time i open a raw file it crashes photoshop,  makes it freeze up after i have adjuted the file in camera raw then I  hit open; i get a few bars then it just stops working.
Even got  tech help, which helped when i was on the phone with them. The next day  the problem came back even when I danced the same jig that I did when I  had the guy on the phone - he had me move a raw file on to the desktop  rather than take open from my hard drive, then I was able to open it, so  we came to the conclusion that my drive was corrupt. I had the same  information backed up on a brand new hard drive so we compared files  from the each drive against the other. The files from the new drive  opened successfully. Yesterday. Now Photoshop cs5 doesn't open any raw  or dng files at all from anywhere so it can only be a problem with  photoshop. We thought we had the problem solved but we did not. This  never happened on CS4 unless i was trying to open 30 or more raw files,  and even then it gave me a warning that it had no more ram, it didn't  just lock up and do nothing. I'm at my wit's end. Even though there are a  lot of great new things in cs5, they aren't very useful if you can't  use the product to do the simplest thing.

    1) Install the Photoshop 12.0.1 update
    2) Install the latest ACR update.
If problems continue after that, then there probably is something wrong with your system.

  • I can't import my Canon 6D RAW files into Lightroom 4.2

Anyone else have this problem? I have a 5D Mk II, and just bought a 6D yesterday. I have Lightroom 4.2 on a Mac. Anyone else have this problem? It won't let me import the RAW files, won't show previews of them.

For a camera like the 6D that is relatively important and relatively similar to other camera before, it is not a case of Canon and Adobe not cooperating or Canon not supplying some information.  It is a case of timing in a competitive market.
Before supporting a particular camera, Adobe needs a profile for it.  Adobe has to create said profile from a PRODUCTION model camera not a beta version where something might change and the profile would be no good.  How far in advance is Canon going to have a PRODUCTION camera that they could supply to Adobe to profile but not supply it to distributors to sell?
Canon and Adobe are independent companies headquartered in different countries with different market forces and global economic conditions driving their revenue.  Canon is NOT going to hold off selling a camera waiting for Adobe to profile it and incorporate it into their next version of software it, and Adobe is not going to have a camera to profile until just before or just after Canon sells one.  Canon needs the freedom to tweak things at the last minute without coordinating schedules with Adobe, and Adobe needs to freedom to release things according to a schedule that allows things to be reasonably bug free and coordinated between various software platforms.   The plug-in concept for Photoshop means that a new release of Photoshop not have to be ready just to support new cameras, but with Lightroom, a new piece of software does need to be ready for release before new cameras can be supported.  For this reason Adobe releases their camera support on a relatively fixed schedule, rather than a small update closer to the time of a particular camera being ready internally.
If Canon and Adobe were the same company or somehow coordinated the release of their camera and software support, the only thing different would be that the camera or Adobe software would be delayed until the other was ready.  A particular photographer can accomplish the same thing by waiting to buy their new camera until after it is supported by their raw-processing software of choice.   With the current situation of Adobe and Canon being separate companies and having independent release schedules, for those without need to use Adobe software, they can buy the camera sooner.

  • Can't open my Nikon D7100 raw files in Photoshop 9.0.3

Cannot open my raw files (NEF) in Photoshop 9.0.3

You need to upgrade to get camera support for your model.PSE9 is quite old. PSE13 is the latest version.Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • I can't open Nikon D800.nef (raw) files in my Photoshop CS6 (64 bit), however, I can open .jpg files

I just purchased and installed Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) to use with my Nikon D800.  However, I can't open the .nef (raw) files but the .jpg files from the same camera will open.  What do I need to do to open .nef files from the D800?

Hello! By default, Photoshop CS6 cannot open the NEF from a D800, you need to have at least Camera Raw 7.1, as explained in this document: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Go to the Help menu, and select "updates" and you'll launch the Adobe Updater that should suggest to install Camera Raw 7.2 that supports the D800, and many other cameras.

  • Can I open Nikon D600 Camera RAW files in Photoshop CS5 Extended?

We've got CS5.5 and a new D600. The NEF (RAW) files will not display. I've downloaded the DNG converter (7.2) as a workaround but it's not great. Spoke with Apple and they say I'll have to upgrade to CS6, which in turn will mean upgrading the OS on this Mac which will in turn require a new computer. All this to get a version of the ACR Plugin that works. OUTRAGEOUS!!

Sorry, but the D600 is not supported by Photoshop CS5.1, support for it was only added in CS6 with ACR 7.2. What kind of computer do you have?
If you (understandibly) don't want to get a new computer, it might make sense to use Lightroom to do your RAW editing, and then open them in Photoshop if you so need.

  • I can't open Sony NEX-5 raw files with PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.

When I try to open raw files from Sony NEX-5 instead of going to PhotoShop like all my NEF files, they go to another software suite that I have (On-One).  I am running MAC OS 10.7.5 with latest PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.  On-One seems to hi-jack these Sony raw files and won't give me the opportunity for the adjustments that I get with the Adobe Raw File converter.  Any help??

    Great news!

  • I can't open some of my older files.

Upon attempting to open an older file I'm prompted to get the latest pages update.  When i go to do so, I'm told I have all the latest updates available.  Last update was Jan 27 2014.  Need these documents asap!!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Suddenly can't open some of my jpeg files, says error-43

    Dear All,
I'm currently using OS X Leopard 10.5.1. I have a NTFS formatted HDD connected to my OSX, to store and share data with another Windows PC in my network. I installed MacFuse and NTFS-3G to enabled me to write and read from that particular HDD.
Recently, I found out that some of my jpeg files and a particular zipped files can't be accessed. When I tried to access it, it says "Unknown error-43" or similar.
When I tried to delete it, it can't be deleted (can't be copied or anything else). Tried to drag it to Desktop, but it doesn't allow me to (it shows a small icon of the "not allowed" sign). I also noticed that in my trash bin there's a file that can't be cleaned as well (even though I tried to emptied the trash), the file name is some weird characters and ends in .?: or something. If I dragged that file to Desktop, it'll be gone and trash emptied, but if I tried to access one of the "missing jpegs" file, it'll show up again.
I also connect another external HDD for my Time Machine, but when I found out it performs so slow and tend to freeze my Mac, I disconnect it and stop using Time Machine. When I connect the HDD again, it doesn't backed up the file I'm trying to find.
What gives? Any thoughts would be appreciated

The error, 43 is a "file not found" error or some such similar thing:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618
It sounds as if the file has become corrupted and while it shows up in the directory it may not exist or it may be corrupted.
I suggest that you deal with these files in the Windows environment. In OS-X they sometimes show up as "ghost" files when trashed, because the trash bins are "shared" and OS-X cannot delete a Windows file even though it can be put into the trash.
Accessing files between Windows and Leopard must be done very carefully since each OS may "touch" the file and change it in some way that the other OS cannot deal with it, as you may be finding out.
It's best to copy a file into OS-X and then deal with it, and vice-versa when in Windows, and never directly access it with another app.

  • I upgraded all of my iWork apps and now I can't open some of my old files.  I get a message that says I need a newer version.  Same for all three iWork apps.

I've checked all of the version numbers, and the latest versions are installed but most of my old files can't be read.  Tried restarting, etc, but nothing works.

    Gary,
Thanks.  After posting that problem, I discovered that my upgrade of iWork did not replace my old versions, and some of my links started up the old versions.  When I looked at version numbers, I saw the new ones.  My links now go to the new versions and all seems to be OK.

  • Opening CR2 (Canon 5D RAW files) in Photoshop CS

    hello,
i have a canon 5d and am trying to open them with the original Photoshop CS. Is this impossible? Is there no plug-in that is compatible with this older version and the CR2 files? thanks for your help.

thanks for the info john. i downloaded DNG converter and converted an image. however, when i tried to open it in photoshop it would not allow me to because it is "not the right kind of document". does photoshop cs perhaps not support .dng files? any other ideas?

  • How can I open Nikon D5300 NEF RAW files in the DNG converter?

I have the latest version of the DNG converter, but it won't recognize my NEF files. I have a Nikon D5300, which is on the list of supported cameras. I have a 64 bit W7 computer.

You don't open in the DNG converter. You use it to batch convert, folder by folder, and the converted copies can then be opened in the ACR version you have.
Two things to watch: One, don't try to convert single files, it won't work. The DNG converter operates on folders. Two, set the compatibility level to the ACR version you have.
If it still doesn't work, the files may have been corrupted by an early version of Nikon Transfer (later versions fixed). There is a utility  to "uncorrupt" them if that's the case (Google it).

  • Can't open Nikon D80 nef (raw) files in Editor

I installed the 3.7 plugin and I now am able to view my files in the organizer but as soon as I try to edit them I get an error message in editor (my copy is in french but loosely translated it says it does not recognize the file) I believe I followed the instructions for installing the plugin correctly, otherwise I wouldn't of been able to see my files in the organizer.
    Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are using Elements? If so, you're more likely to get a response if you post in the Photoshop Elements forum:
