Can't open some documents

Yesterday I downloaded some files, and could open them, today I can't, it says it's already open, but I haven't, and don't see either it is open.

I'm not sure whether to start a new thread so I'll just add to this one.  After installing Adobe X I am having trouble reading pdf's on several different sites that I normally use including school and work where the pdf's either just don't open or stall out while loading and never open.  I uninstalled Adobe X and dropped back to Reader 9.4 and now all is well...
It seems pretty obvious that Reader X is not completely backwards compatible.

I downloaded the recent Pages update but now I can not open some documents done in the past year.  I get an error saying that I need to download a newer version of Pages.  I am running version 4.3.  Do I have to purchase an update of Pages?

You are not on Mountain Lion anymore, right? You are on Mavericks and have downloaded Pages 5 and then created docuemnts in it which can't be opened in Pages 09.
No, you don't have to buy a newer Pages but you have to be particular about which version you use.

  • Can't open some documents in Pages on my macbook pro

I'm running 10.8.5, when trying to open some documents in pages, some of docs are greyed out and will not open.  Many others are fine.  These are docs that are on the mac, not icloud.  Any suggestions on how to open these docs? I am running pages 09

I figured it out.  Most of the documents that I could not open were PDF's, so when I went to Finder, they were all there and they were all available to open.

  • I can't open some documents On my Pages app' - any ideas anyone please?

Documents created before a certain date have been replaced by a picture of an ink well and a fountain pen and when I try to open them the iPad keeps going back to the menu page. I've tried resetting and deleting the app' and reinstalling and none of it has worked. There's are some important notes from meetings and aia desperately need to get access ASAP, all help appreciated!

Attachments that show as a bold downward pointing arrow in a gray rectangle in a dotted box have not yet been downloaded to your phone (usually because they are large). Tapping such an icon should download the attachment if you are connected to the internet and your mail server is reachable. Once downloaded, they should appear as normal (which would depend on the attachment type).
This is the "Using iPhone" forum, so I said phone, but the same applies on an iPad.

  • Can't open some of my documents using firefox

first of all I can not open some of my document's that were downloaded onto Firefox how can I open them?
second of all is there a way to download them onto internet explorer and if so how, in order to read them through that site?

    1) Try a reset. Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
    2) Download any app right now, free or paid, from the App Store and try your other apps now.

  • Word Web App (2013) can't open this document ... Because the service is busy

I have just set up Office Web Apps Server in a SharePoint 2013 test environment as per document here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx
Although I had some issues with Excel Web App at first, I've solved this and excel seems to work ok, However, the Word Web App just sits there spinning and ultimately give the error dialog:
"Sorry, Word Web App can't open this document because the service is busy. Please try again later"   The Same link as above has a simple solution :
Did you install Office Web Apps Server on a domain controller? Office Web Apps Server cannot run on a domain controller. Office Web Apps Server must be installed on a separate server that is part of a domain. For more information, see
Software, hardware, and configuration requirements for Office Web Apps Server.
I certainly did not install on a DC - its a standalone server.
ULS Logs are growing by 2K per second even when I am not doing anything on the server.
    VERY FRUSTRATED!

So after further research we have found the following:
Un-bind and unindstall Web Application Server
    Clean Server
Reinstall (by Mistake to the C: Drive)
    Bind and Provision
    WOW it works!
Un-bind, deprovision, Uninstall, Web Application Server
    clean Server
    Re-install to the D: Drive
    Provision and Bind
wow - it DOES NOT work
Again - repeat the first scenario
    and once again IT WORKS
SO Why doesn't it work on the D Drive - We've checked IIS Setting and Permission - there don't seem to be any differences.
SO - Why isn't this working when changing the default installation location, is it just me?   Has anyone gotten this working installing to another drive?
    Thanks

  • Workflow can`t open a document

I need to re-loading the Workflow, because in some times I have problems with the PO approval process. The WF stopped in the node with the label “can´t open a document) and the notifications are not send to next level in the approve route. This problem is mayor when our DBA makes changes or upkeeps in the data base. I checked the hierarchic table, approval and assignments groups and does not seem wrongs. In others cases the WF has the message “ The document manager is not available ¿Can you send me a link to check the problem? And ¿What is the best way to re-loading the WF?
    Thanks in advance
    Sincerely
    Jesús

Using the WFLOAD command line utility is the best way to reload the definition to the database.

  • Can't open Word documents from Macmail

I use MS Office since I am in publishing and have never had this problem before. But about 50% of the time, I can't open .docx documents that are sent to me by email. Again, this is only some .docx documents. Any ideas on why this might be happening?
Also, it gives me an error message saying that there is not enough disk space to convert this document, but I have about 175GB available.

Try http://www.neooffice.org/ instead of Microsoft Word.
As for disk space, see my FAQ*:

  • I can't open Keynote documents in Keynote'09 that was exported from the latest Keynote software. Why is that?

I can't open Keynote documents in Keynote'09 that was exported from the latest Keynote software. Why is that?
specifivations of my Mac: MacBook Pro 10.8.5, 2.66GHz INtel Core Duo,
Keynote version installed: Keynote '09 5.3
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Dirk

This work around has always worked, it may make some changes to transitions but better that than be unable to  open.
Export  from version 6 as a PowerPoint, choose PowerPoint 2003 in the in advanced options.
Once you have the PowerPoint file open in Keynote.

  • Help!  Can't open Appleworks documents on my Intel Mac.

Just bought a new Intel iMac to replace my old G4 iMac but have just had a shock discovering that i can only open (some) of my old documents which i copied to my external hard drive using Keynote and Pages, but not all of them.
That in itself is annoying enough seeing as they don't come as part of the operating system, unlike Appleworks did.
    Any suggestions?
I can always plug in the old Mac but that defeats the object of buying the new one somewhat.

Thanks for the reply Brie Fly, thankfully i've managed to control my frustration and i've sorted the problem. I plugged the old mac back in to the external hard drive, copied Appleworks onto it, plugged the hard drive into the new mac and presto! it works. Obvious really, i think the initial frustration clouded my thinking!

  • New Pages not opening some documents

Why can I open some of my Pages documents and some others say that a newer version of Pages is avail for download in the App Store?  I go to the App Store and it says that I have already downloaded and installed the newer version.  Please tell me what I can do.

I encountered problems with opening some documents on Pages for iMac (v5.1) as well.  Specifically, the documents contained mathematical symbols, and were stored on the iCloud.
When I dragged the document out of iCloud, and onto the desktop, I could open and edit the documents without issue.  When I moved them back to the iCloud, I once again could not open them with Pages for iMac.  However, I could edit them without issue from my iPhone.
Moving the document out the iCloud to the desktop, in order to open and edit them, and then moving them back to the iCloud so they can be accessed everywhere else, is clearly a work around, not a solution.  And it seems to only apply to my documents with mathematical symbols.  Which particular symbol(s) is/are the issue, I have not investigated.

  • Indesign CS6 crashes opening some documents

    Hi,
updated to Yosemite today and realise that Indesign CS6 crashes opening some documents.
Anyone has same issue with me? Two people from my team updated to Yosemite and have same issue.
Thinking of downgrade to Maverick but with no luck...
    Please help.
    Thank you.

I find InDesign CS6 is running incredibly slowly and erratically (constantly producing the spinning rainbow fruit gum of death) ever since I 'upgraded' to Yosemite. Has anyone at Apple remembered that the original users (loyal as we once were) all used Macs and now all use InDesign?? This upgrade has caused all kinds of problems with Font Explorer (forcing me to upgrade that), Illustrator wouldn't load without some Java plug in ... Can't wait to retire and have done with all this nonsense.
