Can't open some folders

I have just re-installed the OS and "migrated" some old things, and now there's a few folders that I can't open. I get this message:
The folder "xxx" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents.
What to do?

Where on the disk drive are these folders located? If you select one and invoke the Finder menu option File -> Get Info", what does it show as the owner and permissions and how does this compare to folders you can open?{quote}
Thanks for asking the right questions.
The folders I couldn't open were not on the OS drive but on other internal drives. They had a small red "don't pass" sign on the down left corner. In the Get info, under Sharing & Permissions it said: You have no access.
At the bottom there are two accounts: "my name" and "everyone". I unlocked the folders then changed the everyone account from No access to Read & Write - and now everything is good. Thanks again!
But why some folders have this problem? I am logged in as "my name", not as "everyone"... Is there a setting somewhere that I should correct?

I can not open some folders and recieve the message: you do not have permission to open this folder. how I can solve it?

Select that folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself read access under Sharing & Permissions. This shouldn't be done on folders in system directories.

  • I can't open some folders anymore

    Hi everyone
Since some couple of months, i can't open some folders on my macbook air and pro anymore. when I try to open some folders, than every icon disappears, and I am at the some place I was before. The folders exist, because when I try to open some files from the search bar, it works, but I can search the files into the folder!
Did anyone have a similar problem?
    tx

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process (Finder). For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • TS3899 I can't open some attachments on my iphone or ipad?

I can't open some attachments on my iphone or ipad. The little paper clip shows on the side but there is no attachment or file in the body of the email to click on to. It's not with all emails - all of the time???  This has happened on with older and the new iOS software.

why is it that I can't delete some photos on my iPhone and iPad?
And in addition to gail's list: if you try to delete edited photos in iPhoto, they will remain on your device. To be able to delete them completely, revert the photo to original before deleting.
    See:  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/?lang=en#blnkb9b1e2a
If you delete a photo from the Photos app on your device, the photo is deleted in iPhoto (unless the photo has been edited, captioned, tagged as a favorite, or used in a web journal, slideshow, or photo book).

  • Can't open some attachments

I am not sure what is going on, but I can not open some attachment files either by quicklook or in iBooks. So far there are .doc and .pdf files that I just can not open. The .pdf gives me the option to open in iBooks, but when I hit the button...nothing. It does not open. That said, other .pdfs have worked, .dot and .xls have worked, .doc has not (not even an option to open in iBooks appears).
I have just completed a full factory restore (not from backup) and the problem persists. Any suggestions on how to view pdfs (even in quicklook again) would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Actually it is more likely an Office 2000 issue. First, I would like to know if you can open JPG or PDF file by saving them to Desktop from Outlook.
If they can be accessed on Desktop but not inside an email as attachments, it is an Outlook issue. Is there any error occurs when trying to open that attachment? Please let us know.
In-case it is actually being blocked, please try to change the security level per following article:
You may receive an "Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments" message in Outlook
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/829982/en-us
If they cannot be accessed on Desktop either, please make sure you have the proper application to access them such as Adobe Reader for PDF.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • I can't open some pictures in emails, do I need to install a program

No additional programs needed. What happens when you try to open them? What is the prompt?

  • Why won't Finder open some folders in List view?

I cannot open some folders in Finder when it's in List View. For example, I have an external drive divided into 3 volumes: Ext A, Ext B, and Ext C. B & C open fine when I double click: A will not open at all, although sometimes Finder will open a blank window. If I click on the volumes in the Finder sidebar I get the same results. BUT if I switch to Column View it opens OK. Is this a bug or is there something wrong with my folder? (All volumes above have identical permissions.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran the disk verify utility and all the volumes checked out OK. It has also happened with one folder of the internal hard drive. I ended up copying all the data from that folder and putting into a new (re-named) folder, and deleting the original. The new folder was accessible OK.
It must be something to do with that one folder??

  • I downloaded the recent Pages update but now I can not open some documents done last year.  I get an error saying that I need to download a newer version of Pages.  I am running version 4.3

I downloaded the recent Pages update but now I can not open some documents done in the past year.  I get an error saying that I need to download a newer version of Pages.  I am running version 4.3.  Do I have to purchase an update of Pages?

You are not on Mountain Lion anymore, right? You are on Mavericks and have downloaded Pages 5 and then created docuemnts in it which can't be opened in Pages 09.
No, you don't have to buy a newer Pages but you have to be particular about which version you use.

  • I can not open some internet sites with my ipad

since i download new apple software 7.2 i can not open some internet sites with my ipad! it lets me open only english sites nothing else...

Try a soft reboot and see if that helps.
    1. Press and hold power + home button until screen goes off and apple logo appears.
    2. Once the apple logo appears release both buttons and let the phone reboot.
This helps clear temporary files. I assume you've tried deleting safari from multitasking?
You could always try using a different app top browse the internet.
VPN is another solution as it has helped me out before.
    Hope this helps.
