Can't open Spaces Preferences from the MenuBar Spaces icon

---I have to go to System Prefs and do it from there.
The Menu Bar Spaces icon offers the possibility to open Spaces Prefs from there, but it doesn't work. Nothing happens.

Sounds like Spaces may be corrupted. You may need to reinstall by doing an Archive & Install.
You also may be able to simply re-install Spaces using Pacifist which will install individual applications from the installation disk. I haven’t used Pacifist, but I’ve seen it highly recommended on this forum and it has a high rating from those who have used it at VersionTracker.com.

  • Satellite A60: Can't open any programs from the CD Rom

I have a problem when trying to open any program from the CD rom, the computer runs a Windows Explorer message every time
which says there is a fault and has to close down. I have run the computer through every virus program going and i have all the Microsoft updates from there website. Has anyone got any further ideas what the problem could be.

    Hi
Well, strange issue. Maybe its something wrong with the CD rom?
The best idea is to recover this unit with the delivered Recovery CD but firstly you can try to remove the CD rom device from the Device Manager. After OS booting the drive will be recognized again. If the problem persists after this procedure I would recommend to recover the unit.
    Bye

  • I cannot close a tab by clicking on the "x" - nor can I open a tab from the tab bar

On the tab bar, FF opens multiple "new tab" tabs. No matter what I do I cannot close these tabs, or any other tab, by clicking on the "x". Also, I cannot access these tabs by clicking on them.

Note that the X is a close button and that the new tab button is styled as a plus (+) sign.
You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar New Tab button.<br />
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.<br />
You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

  • How can I start System Preferences from the command line?

    Hello All,
I have an issue I'm not quite sure how to solve. I have been tasked within my business environment  with tightening security on a Mac Leopard system and I've been granted Admin Rights to do this on a temporary basis.
    The problem is as follows:
    1) The original Sys Admin that set up this system is gone, no longer available.
    2) He was a Dvorak Keyboard fan and set up the system for a Dvorak Keyboard.
    3) The system actually has a standard Apple keyboard and is marked accordingly, i.e., qwerty (Most Users in the building have stopped using this system altogether - a terrible waste of a good system - even though some of their apps can be run normally (US style qwerty settings). The command line is useless, as is texteditor.app and a few others unless you know Dvorak layout)
    5) When I open System Preferences, the Dvorak keyboard checkbox is grayed out and I cannot change it. There is no lock at the bottom of that particular screen for me to unlock.
    6) Even though I select the US Keyboard at Login, and some apps work accordingly (like MatLab for example) the terminal is borderline useless. I spent over 2 hrs yesterday doing what should have been able to be done in about 30 minutes. I estimate a frustrating and mistake prone additional 8 to 10 hours to do what is normally a a 4 hour job at the command-line.
    7) I do not have the time or desire to re-mark all the keys on the keyboard, particularly since it is not my call to do so, nor do I have the time to re-learn Dvorak touch-typing, and finally I do not want to re-load the entire system. I just want to change the darn keyboard to a standard qwerty keyboard that is somewhat useful in a terminal environment with vi, command line, etc. It's either that or I go mildly insane
This is frustrating as all get-out. The new Admin logged in and was able to uncheck his Dvorak settings (he is not a UNIX guy, nor is he comfortable om Macs), and we were hoping this was a system wide setting, but No. We re-booted the system, I logged in, still Dvorak, and the checkbox was still grayed out.
So I figure, short of re-loading the entre system and all the applications necesary, I can either start the Systems Preferences GUI using sudo and hopefully that will change system-wide settings, or I can delete the .AppleSetupDone file and resetup the system (if the keyboard settings are part of the setup) without spending a couple of days reloading everything and re-setting up users, networks, etc.
Needless to say, I am hoping for the easiest and quickest solution to this extremely frustrating and  aggravating problem.
    Thanks.

For my situation the following C# code does the job:
        Process.Start(
           @"c:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI71\cvi.exe",
           @"c:\temp\experiment.c" );
    The file must already exist.

  • Can not open PDF-files from the internet...

    Hi,
I migrade my data to my new mac. But the old user xxx is now yyy. On the old imac I can download PDF-Files with the mozilla firefox. There was a copy from the pdf at the desktop!
Now with the new mac mini and the new user, I get an error, because the firefox (safari too) can not oper the folder Users/xxx/Desktop....
Where can I change this settings to yyy???
    Please help...
    Thanks!
    ULLI

It sounds like you copied your firefox profile across from your other computer and just need to change the destination for downloaded files. Under Firefox->Preferences, look in the Main tab under downloads where it says "Save files to" and click "Choose" to change the destination directory. That ought to fix it.

  • How can I open my project from the new account on my Mac?

After suffering Autosave problems, I contacted Apple and they recommended I create a new 'admin' account on the MacPro and try FCPX from there. I created a new event and worked on it for a couple of hours and all went well.
To take the trial further, I'd like to access my main event from the new account - but every time I try to open the relevant 'CurrentVersion.fcpevent' using finder, I get this message:
Final Cut Pro cannot save changes to projects or Events.
The disk where your projects or Events are located may be full or unavailable, projects or Events may have moved, or permissions may have changed.
I changed the file to 'Read and Write' in the original Mac account but when I looked at it with finder in the new account it was 'Read Only', so I changed it to 'Read and Write', then double-clicked it to open it.
    Help!
    Andy

Are you able to see it from within FCPX? You should be able to see it listed.
Another thing to try. First make sure FCPX is closed.
In your old account, change the top level names of the FCP folder to:
    Final Cut Projects Old
    Final Cut Events Old
In your new account, duplicate those folders (should be command-d) and rename the duplicated folders them to:
    Final Cut Projects
    Final Cut Events
Now, in your new account, open FCPX and see if you can access the project/event.

  • Opening an image from the net

Can I open an image from the internet, instead of saving it to my PC first, then opening it?

That can be scripted you need to be able to provide the images URL for the script ie copy paste in a url its even posible to load all image on aweb page into a layer stack in a new document. Go for it.  The following scripts do download a temp files into your temp space but these are deleted once the image is placed into the photoshop document. So there is no image file is on your system images only exist in the open Photoshop Document.

  • Can't open Office documents from share on Windows 8

We have a problem with a customer that they can't open Office documents(Word,Excel etc.) on Windows 8.1 image on a network share. The error message is just that the document can't open.
The documents are on a sharepoint site and we can open the documents within the site and also we can open the Office documents on a Windows 7 image from the networkshares.
Also can't open the documents if i copy them to the local desktop.
I think there is a group policy for Windows 8 for this but I don't know for sure?
    Anybody?

    Hi,
As I understand, the issue is that customers can’t open office documents on windows 8.1 on a network share or copying them to the local desktop.
Per my test, I can open documents on windows 8.1 on a network share.
    1. By default, Word doesn't trust files in temp directories from your browser. You can add the
network address and local address to the trusted list. From Word 2010/2013: Click File > Word Options > Trust Center->trust center setting->add new location.
    2. You can create a shortcut on the desktop using the network address and then open the documents by that way.
    3. To narrow down the research scope that you can create a new document library->Download a problematic file (an Excel workbook or a word document) to your local->Upload the local file to the new document library->do the same option to check if
    the same situation will occur.
    There is a similar case:

    Hi Sara Fan,
    Thanks for your reply.
I have added the profile to the trusted locations but without success. Also a shortcut is not working. I still can't open any Office document on that location(Error message: location ***.xxxx can't be opened). The problem occurs on every client.
    1. Opening Office documents under local administrator account, domain admin account is working fine
    2. Re-image the machine is not a solution
    4. All locations use the same Windows 8.1 image through SCCM
    3. When the user logon to another location(site) it's working fine and they can open Office documents so it seems site-specific
    4. The problem is specific from 2 sharepoint shares. We can open office documents from other shares.
    5. Can't open Office documents from the library on the sharepoint site(browser), but on another location it's working fine.
Problem only occurs on Windows 8.1 image with domain users. Other locations of this company do not have the problem. Note, every location have their own OU for users/clients.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Opening a file from the Cloud of Adobe Reader - Ipad

    Hi,
I have got a serious trouble with my Ipad. It's been about 3, maybe 4 days that I can't open my files from the cloud of Acrobat.com if it hasn't been open recently, thus not in the docoument.
When I try to open a file, I click on it, and then, it do not open, just stay blocked on "Opening... X Mo." without never progressing.
I thought it was maybe the internet connection. But the Cloud of Pages, Numbers and Keynote works perfectly.
Then, I did some manipulations on Adobe Reader : I deleted it, then downloaded it. All the files are in it, but I can't open them. I 've checked the version of Adobe reader and it's the latest one. I've checked the version of My Ipad, and it's the lastest one too. I even turned off my Ipad, then turned it on. Nothing.
So, I thought it was maybe the files itself. But I can open them on the cloud of my computer.
Ps. About subscriptions, I bought the Pack (about 79€ a year).
    Sarah
Sorry for my english, I'm french

    Hello everyone !
I backed up my Ipad, then restored it and... It works
Hope It will help some of you. I was soooo deperate and then, I can get back to work

  • Can't open Mini Bridge because the Extensions are not supported in PS CC Aug 2014

OS X 10.9.4 Ps CC Aug 2014. There's File > Browse with Bridge and no File > Browse with Mini Bridge chance. Neither can I open Mini Bridge from the Extensions panel, because Window > Extensions (not active). Adobe Extensions Manager CC is blind. HELP please

To my knowledge mini bridge is no longer supported.
You can run the full version of bridge which would be running anyway for mini bridge to work, then use that to view or open files.
