Can't open video files on iTunes

Yes, I realize that this topic was already posted. However, the reply asked the person to instant message them in AIM, which I do not have.
So, my problem is that I cannot open the video files onto my iTunes. The format of the video files are Windows Media, and though this may present a problem, my other song files were of the same formatting, and they opened fine. I would appreciate if someone were to post and respond ^^ or either email me at [email protected] or instant message me on MSN.
Thanks
-J4mmer

Clear it from the main library, not the video
playlist.
Unfortunately that 's the problem. It won't clear from the videos (library) file. : (
Is there something I'm not doing? There must be a relatively simple solution.

My current version of Chrome is having problems, too! It's so annoying. Anyone have any suggestions now? I basically can't view or download any PDFs because of this.
Does anyone else think this is a problem not only with Adobe? I would think Apple would have something to do with this? Wouldn't they get some idea from the developer versions that no browser can open PDFs while running Lion!? Pretty bad customer service on the part of a company that prides itself on being VERY customer-friendly. Wouldn't you say?

  • Finder can't open video files with VLC?

    Hi,
Having recently got OSX Mavericks, trying to open videos from Finder I get an error message saying "The application can't be found" referring to VLC or any other video playing program I try to use.   Despite the newest VLC version being re-downloaded and in my Applications folder, this happens with all video formats across all programs.  If I go through VLC and open the file from there it plays without a problem.  The preview from pressing space isn't working on videos either but does work on doc, pdf, ppt files etc.  Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, so? You didn't seem to grasp what I posted before. It doesn't matter if the file should be able to be played by the Finder. It may say it is an AVI (which I don't think QuickTime plays natively), but that doesn't mean a program that normally can play an AVI can play that one. The video content could have been encoded with the double-monkey franken-codec which you do not have installed on your Mac. You wouldn't be able to play it unless you used a program that had that codec installed with the program.
Perian (not being developed anymore) can help QuickTime play some codecs. Flip4Mac (the free version) can enable QuickTime to play a lot of Windows video/audio.
If you were previously able to play those files in QuickTime, did you have any QuickTime helpers (like Perian) installed?  Also, the new Quicktime X doesn't handle a lot of the older stuff which Quicktime 7 may be able to.  If you had the Pro version, Quicktime Player 7 should still be in the Applications/Utilities folder.
You keep saying it plays in VLC. Great, tell the Finder to open the files with VLC then. Whatever is set to currently open it doesn't have the codec to decode the content.

  • Can't open video file from security camera

I recently captured footage on my security camera of a hit-and-run driver sideswiping my car on the street in front of my house. I had the guy who installed my security cameras put it on a USB flash drive. However, it will not transfer to my iMac, which runs Mavericks. I got a message that said something like Windows files can't be opened in OS X. The file extension is .exe.
I really need this footage for evidence. Is there some way to save it without buying a Windows computer?

Ask the guy to provide it to you as a video file, not as a Windows self-extracting archive. If he's too incompetent to do that, you'll have to get a Windows-using friend, who's willing to risk a malware infection by running an unknown executable, to open it for you. Or else go to a local PC shop.

  • Can't open video file - Codec could not be opened

    Hello,
I have just purchased a camcorder, and can't open the video files that it creates. Final Cut Express tells me "Codec could not be opened". I'm not sure how to find and install the proper codec
    Some background
    - The files are AVI format
    - Quicktime opens the files, but all it get is a blank screen playback with no sound
    - The files play on my WindowsPC (but what good is that). The PC tells me that the file is H264, 1280x720, 30 frames/s, 681 kbits, 24 bit, AVC H264 format (FFDS compression).
    - The camcorder is a Polariod HD camcorder DVC-00725F. Polariod is no help - they only support Windows (no wonder they have declared bankruptcy)
My computer is an iMac 24
    - Final Cut Express 4.0.1
    - QuickTime 7.6.0
    Thanks for any help
    Sean

When I open it in quicktime, I get a big black screen. it plays, but no picture (should be video of a chair - is this what you are seeing?)
    QT inspector shows me
    'H264', 1280 x 720, Millions

  • Can't Open Video Files from Desktop or Finder

    Hello,
I am faced with the current error. Whenever I try to open a video file (such as MP4) from the desktop or Finder by double-clicking it, I am faced with the following error:
However, when I open the file directly via Open File in Quicktime Player, I am able to play the video file.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Nope. For example, one folder has two xls workbooks, two Word docs and a pdf. Only one of the xls workbooks won't open. All the other files open normally. When I try to open the problem xls workbook, whether from the dock or the Finder window, I end up in Excel, but without the workbook opening. When I quit Excel, the problem workbook started Excel, but didn't open.
Update - I'm seeing something now. I use Excel to build "shows," I'm a production mixer for television. I went to one folder, five xls workbooks open fine, four do not. The four that don't open were modified (Save As with changes) with each "show." This was the first pattern I've noticed and only because that particular subfolder had the four workbooks with that relationship. The other xls workbook I described has the Save As file in another folder, but I'm not sure what the original file was. Note - those two "corrupt" files are unrelated, they had different "parents."
What could I look for in the original file that won't open and passed that gene onto its spawn?

  • Can't open video files when transferred to external hard drive, but can preview them?

I'm trying to clean up the disk space on my Mac because I have too many HD files.  However, when I copied them onto my external hard drive, and tried to open them there, I can't.  However, I can "preview" the files.  Is it safe to erase my hard disk?  Or has something gone wrong?
    Thanks.

iMovie will only recognize drives that are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled), not FAT32. This is because of an architectural limitation of FAT32 which does not allow files sizes of 4GB or larger. Video can quickly reach this size.
You can either get a new drive and format it, or you can reformat your current drive. If you reformat your current drive, it will erase all data that is currently on it. Shout out if you need detailed instructions for the reformatting.

  • Can't open PDF files in iTunes U

I am having ALOT of trouble using iTunes U, I have downloaded a course and the PDF files within it but once I go to open the PDF file it's blank. It won't open in iBooks or kindle or a PDF viewer app. How do I open and view the PDF file???

    Insufficient data.
You should be accessing the course via the iTunes U app on iOS. This is the only way to access all of the course components. Is this the case?
If not, you might be using a web browser on some other OS so only able to download the course materials. In that case, you need to tell us what OS and web browser you are using and what happens when you attempt to open a downloaded PDF and, speciically, how that is different from the way that other PDFs open on your system.

When I try to open video files purchased through iTunes in Quicktime, I get the message: 'Error 23132: an unknown error occurred. This never happened until I updated iTunes, but when I try to go back to the previous version, I still get the message. It is more convenient for me to play videos in Quicktime since iTunes is such a memory hog. Please help.

You may get better results if you switch to this alternate version: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) and, if needed, reinstall QuickTime. The new (nearly) all 64-bit version doesn't seem to play well with QuickTime. Perhaps if DRM authentication is required QuickTime needs to be able to see something that is part of the older 32-bit code.

We need to know the exact source of the file and what system you're on. Could simply be an unresolvable compatibility issue/ unsupported format.
