Can't open wav file: "unsupported format or damaged file". OSX.

It plays fine in quicktime, itunes, etc. Clean install of Soundbooth CS4 on OSX.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. Don't want to go back to client and say "sorry, I can't load this totally fine wav file, can you redo it please".
jamie

ffmpeg via mac ports did the trick.
ffmpeg -i messedup.wav worksfine.aif
For some reason ffmpeg crashed when I tried to just save it as mp3. Ah, wait, even better:
ffmpeg -i messedup.wav -acodec copy worksfine.mp3
Now if only there was a way to run a shell script in Bridge... Anyone?

  • "File Import Failure Unsupported format or damaged file" in CS6 but fine in CS5.5

    Hello All.
Recording in Pal DV AVI from Sony Z5U with MRC1K compact flash recorder.
Imported files to computer using the Sony utility, and also tried dragging and dropping.
Some files import to Premiere Pro CS6.03, but others give "File Import Failure: Unsupported format or damaged file,".
The files that do import show up as 4:3 and I have to modify /  interpret footage to get them to show as 16:9,
However, these same files play back just fine in Windows Media Player.
Intriguingly these files import just fine to Premiere Pro CS5.5, and also show up correctly as 16:9.
I can't figure out why some files import into CS6 and others don't....
Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
(Normally I record in HDV and I've never had problems importing from MRC1K into Premiere, but the client specifically requested DV files for their ease of editing...)
    Cheers
    Mark
PS When I use the DV recoverer utility on these files they import just fine into CS6....

    Hi Jim,
OK, here's the video that imports OK into CS6.03 but that Premiere CS6.03 sees as 4:3:
And here's the one that won't import into CS6.03 but is happily opened by CS5.5 and correctly seen as 16:9:
Can you spot the difference? Thanks for having a look at this.
    Cheers

  • Unsupported format or damaged file with .psd import

I have several PSD files I am importing into Premiere Pro CS4 and with one I am receiving this error message, "Unsupported format or damaged file."
The file opens in Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator but not in Premiere. I tried it using the import command as well as dragging and dropping but I get the error both ways. I even tried resaving it in photoshop as a PSD file under a different name but still no luck. Other PSD files that were created the same way and from similar source materials are importing fine. The file was from originally an EPS file and was exported from Illustrator as a PSD.
Any ideas what is going on?
    Thanks for any input.
    Cole

    Glad that you found that.
For Video, the PSD's need to be RGB, and not CMYK or Intexed Color. They need to be 8-bit. Paths can cause issues, though not always, and the same for Smart Objects (some work fine, and others muck things up???). Often, tiny pixel counts in a Layer (think something very small, like a logo, in a much larger Image), can cause issues.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Unsupported format or damaged file? Importing Avid AAF files into PPro 4.1

I have been trying all day to import Avid aaf into Premiere Pro 4.1.0. I went to Avid and Adobe forums and sites and thought I had it figured out by following the video tutorial on Adobe TV - "Open Workflows Between Avid and Adobe CS4" His Avid was running on a Mac on the tutorial. I believe I followed it exactly but I get an "Unsupported Format or Damaged File" message.  I run ver.4.1.0 on a WINDOWS XP machine.
sSD 720x486 drop frame - no HD.  I am new to Adobe and Pro but I am loving After Effects and would love to transfer some of my old Avid footage over. Here is what I have been doing:
    In Avid
    I Select sequence on timeline
    File
    Export As
    Save In: Desktop
I Create an .aaf file name
Export Setting: Link Audio and Video
    Options - Export As: AAF
Export Method: Link to (Don't Export) Media - including all Video and Audio Tracks
    Save then Save
In Premiere I double click in project bin
Import - .aaf file from desktop - The project and files come up - The Audio plays fine but in program monitor a red box has  " Media Offline"
    Status:  Offline Importer Can't Open
On the new project file I right click - Link Media  - Find my Avid media on my EXTERNAL Avid media drive
Avid Media - Avid Media Files - MXF - 1- Find file by "Display Only Exact Name Matches" -
Click on the correct .MXF file  to link to then - Select  - and get the "Unsupported Format or Damaged File" message.
This is my first post and I usually can figure things out but I am stumped.  If anyone has had this come up or has any input for me I would be deeply appreciative. Thank you in advance.

For what its worth. I shot some DV 720x480 in 4:3 and 16:9 with my little DV camera and imported footage into my Avid MC. I repeated my earlier - posted steps and when I created and opened up the project in Ppro, this time not only did the sequence and files open up but my footage was on the timeline and I was able to play it without having to link to my Avid Media files!
When I tried before, all my footage was originated on BetaSP and DigiBeta at NTSC 720x486. Cannot Ppro bring in NTSC 720x486 or does it have to be NTSC DV 720x480
As I mentioned before I am a newbie to Ppro. When I created a new project and brought my 16:9 footage in, the source monitor is 16:9 but my sequence is in 4:3. In the Program Monitor I can click and hold the frame and move the 16:9 around within the 4:3 frame. Why is it not letting me see the full 16:9 frame.  I created the project in 16:9. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Unsupported format or damaged file very sudden

I have been working in cs4 pro on a project for about a month. It is composed of a series of four second clips. There has been no problems with the files at all. I am now getting the media offline red box. When I attempt to link I am getting the unsupported format or damaged file error. This is out of nowhere. Using files stored on an external. I am a curator and have a show Today! anybody out there that can help please?

I also copied the source file to another location and tried to relink to it. Still gave me the same error. How would my files self-destruct spontaneously? I am really confused. My film is completely ready to go other than I can't see the images. Can I export in this state?

  • Unsupported format or damaged files message?

On importing files into CS5 I get the "Unsupported format or damaged files" message. I assume I need the correct Codec?  I am on a PC windows 8.1. Anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi,
You haven't mentioned the file type. Are you importing through the media browser?
Rename the parent folder that contains the files or try to move the files to a different location and see if that helps.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

Every time that I try and import my RED ONE footage into Premiere Pro CS4 it says: Error Message: Unsupported format or damaged file. • Unsupported format or damaged files

My project was going fine but all of a sudden 2 clips won't show up (.mxf files). I tried to re-link to the clip and I get the message 'unsupported format or damaged files'. I link to a copy of the clip on another drive and then it works. I replaced the 'corrupted file???' with the new clip thinking the clip was corrupted, but always the same message. I read to delete the cache files that may cause trouble, but it still does not work. Did anybody had the same problem and find the answer?

Just wanted to add this picture...all other clips shows up except 0009OJ when I replace the clip with a copy of the clip that is on another drive it still does the same thing....

  • Why is it that everytime I try to download Firefox 4 my Adobe reader can't open it because it is a damaged file? Because of this I am not able to download it. Not sure I want to since I see so many other people having problems with it.

I will start the process of downloading Firefox 4 and then get the message that my Adobe Reader can't open the file because it is damaged or sent through an e mail. I was not in my e mail when I tried to download the update. This isn't the first time that this has happened. I gave up downloading updates in the past just because I would encounter this same problem.

When you start the download, are you chooseing Save or Run?

  • Unsupported format or damaged file

    Hello,
I've been getting this error message in Premiere Elements 4.
I get this message when I use an MPEG file which was downloaded from the web. I was able to work with this video clip many times before but all of a sudden it gives me this error message when I want to use it in the project now.
Also, I get the very same error message when I try to use an AVI file which I output using Premiere Elements 4 as well.
Why would the program gives this kind of error message considering I have used the same file and for the AVI file which came from the same program as well?
    Running Vista 64
    Premiere Elements 4

Premiere Elements can not run on 64-bit Vista, Dave -- although some people have been able to successfully run it in 32-bit compatibility mode.
But if you do that and you still get problems, it could be a number of things, including the possibility that the video you downloaded from the web was copy protected.
Meantime, though, optimize Vista, per our FAQs:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc448a7
And make sure you have the latest firmware, RealTek drivers and Quicktime.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c057647
And try working with some known compatible files, like the tutorial files that come with the program, just to make sure something isn't wrong with the program's installation.

  • Possible Solution to "unsupported format or damaged file" errors on relink

Premeiere CC. I had a project file made on a MacBookPro OSX, had to make it work on Windows. Red footage: .r3d files. Was using same footage drives (formatted as FAT so could read and write on both operating systems), just moved from Mac to Windows. Knew i'd likely have to relink, but encountered problems relinking some of the media. The linker could find it, the files opened normally in Red Cine X, and could even be dragged onto the timeline. But they wouldn't relink!
Solution was to move my entire footage directory structure, which was at top level, into a brand new top level folder. This worked. I moved everything into a folder called "WindShiv" (call it whatever i assume), then the relinking still had to happen, but it worked this time.
I don't know if there are other solutions regarding folder structure that would also do the trick, or if now that it sees it i could re-move the directory structure back, but at least this fixed it for me so if you are having the same problems i did try moving your footage folders into a different place on your drive(s). Lucky happy cutting to you.

  • Premiere pro cs6 mac import failure prores and dnxhd says unsupported format or damaged file

    Hi All,
I'm running OSX Mavericks and have avchd footage imported into my project.  It's all rendered out.  I'm making an intermediate file and have tried dnxhd and prores formats.  When I created a new project and tried to import either format I get the error above.  Also, when trying to play the prores file with quicktime it won't play.  I have a Windows virtual machine with an older version of premier pro that has neat video.  I've created dnxhd file on it and was able to import the file into PP on the mac and process them int h.264 movies.  What do you think is causing the error to not be able to import either format on my mac?  Could there be an error on the export in media encoder?
    Mark

It looks like I solved my own problem and wanted to post the resolution.  Apparently, the Avid codecs don't play nice with Quicktime on a Mac and cause Adobe QT32 Server to crash.  Even though a file was made, with QT32 Server crashing it was unreadable.  The first thing I did was to remove all of the codecs in MacHD/Library/Quicktime.  I restarted my computer.  Then I added back the Apple codecs.  Voila, I can now encode to Prores.  I tried to add back the Avid dn codec only, and I had the same problem.  I tried version 2.3.7 and 2.3.9 without success.  Looks like I wont' be able to encode  any DNXHD files, and reading my existing ones will require adding the codec, exporting to a non-quicktime format and then removing the codec for any future prores encoding.  If anyone has a solution to get Avid DNXHD codec working please let me know.

  • Unsupported format or damaged file, but their there and they look fine?

File Import Failure. Importing my media for my first project on a PC and my first in Premier Pro, why oh why. I am sure this is a simple mistake but I cant see how and cant go on without knowing if things are importing successfully or not.
As i was importing the media into the project I started to get the File Import Failure for a few of my files, unfortunately the most important ones. The Video was shot on a DSLR and a GoPro, it plays fine in VLC or QT. It's the same format as the rest of the footage I've just imported with no problem and dose not seem to be damaged in any way?
I have tried cleaning my Media cache, to no avail.
It's a GoPro 2.5k strait into Premier and a new build PC, i74930K/GTX780 in good working order.
I then got the files from the originals to see if there was corruption and they imported fine, so I tried importing the problem files again but individually, not just right clicking the whole folder and choosing import, and they imported fine.
Then I went back and found that the problem files where actually importing all along and the there has been no problem. I checked the files that Premier complained about not being able to import in the project bin and they play fine in premier?
    So..
I'm a Muppet I know, It's been a while but I cant see why this is happening? what to do?

I'm sorry about that I was trying to edit it as I had copied and pasted bits from else where and it was not making much sense.
I was going to the Media Browser tab next to the Project Tab then finding the media in files I had made while away that contain the clips and audio in two separate files inside a files by date. I then chose the file with the date on it and left clicked and chose import, is this what you mean by using the Media Browser?
If so I presume in this case I can ignore the warnings then if the clips are present in the project and play fine? There have been no effects or such applied to any of them.
I am new to windows too and could not find any other files with the clips in the original media but I went back and found a "show hidden files" button that revealed some other stuff. So thanks for clearing that up
