Can't optimize resolution for external screen

Hi,
I'm having a very frustrating issue with my Macbook Air running Yosemite. I want to use my 1080p external screen as the main one, but no matter what I try, my my mac optimizes for the built-in display resolution, not for the external one (which is therefore blurry). The weird thing is that when I close the macbook lid, the resolution is fixed. However I need to be able to use the built-in keyboard and touchpad, so need to keep it open.
Any ideas how to fix this?
My settings screenshot attached - with this I am not getting 1080p on my external display, but something blurry and scaled..
Thanks

Hello michalfromvimperk,
You may need to verify that your display arrangement is set for Extended Desktop rather than Mirroring.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Arrangement.
Open the Arrangement pane for me
Follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
    Many thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Tecra S2 isn't capable to display the resolution 1400x1050.
Here are the resolutions you can use.
    Support Resolution/Color(CRT)

    1024x768 16bit/32bit colors(Depending on CRT)

  • Enable High Resolution for Retina Screen

Version 11.0.0 downloaded from Creative Cloud on iMac 5K Retina screen (Yosemite). Acrobat Pro opens in Low Resolution - all text.images appears blurred/bitmapped/low resolution.
On looking at the applications info: 'Open in low resolution' is ticked and dimmed, so it can't be changed.
I've seen a couple of hacks to fix this, one of which states you should go into the Contents/info.plist and add <key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key>
    <string>True</string> just before </dict>
I'm not keen to do this, plus sounds like it will be glitchy.
Please would the next update allow high resolution for Retina screens. Thanks.

Big thanks Adobe, a day later, you release 11.0.09 which has fixed this issue.

I??ve got a U400 which was equipped with the Intel graphic card and I??ve got an external LCD which I have connected to the U400 using the DVI-to-HDMI cable.
My U400 unit supports the HDMI and the LCD the DVI port.
I have received also the driver disk with my LCD and I have installed the software.
I have also update the Intel driver and used one from the Intel page.
Now I have the access to many different external resolutions and can choose it.

  • Support for 1920x1080 resolution for external MacBook screen?

Got a MacBook 2Ghz (white model) with smashed LCD. For the time being, I use a 19" LCD as main screen with not-too-got result via the MiniDVI-VGA adaptor. I understand that using DVI all the way will give more options regarding external screen resolutions, so I wonder: Will a 1920x1080 FullHD screen be supported correctly when using the MiniDVI-DVI adaptor from this MacBook model (that unfortunately lacks a separate graphics card....)?
    In advance - thank you.

    I doubt it.
my x3100 machine only supports up to 1280x800. And HD monitors wernt standard kit when the 950 was around. Id say Find a larger monitor or Find out the optimal resolution of the monitor you are using and set it to that.
Start at 1024x768, if that does not look right try going down or up untill it looks better.

  • Setting the resolution for external monitor

    Hello all,
I just purchased a ViewSonic vx2025wm 20.1" external monitor for my PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz 12". I've scoured the discussions regarding my question, but couldn't seem to find it. So I'll post it here...
I've successly connected the ViewSonic to my PB and the image seems to display fine in "spanning" mode (ie images span over two screens). However, when I try to "mirror" (ie have the same view show on both screens) the external monitor displays a 1024x768 resolution (the PB displays this as well, but that is the optimal resolution for the 12"). My question is this: how can I mirror while having each screen display its optimal resolution (the optimal resolutions would be 1680x1050 for the External monitor, and 1024x768 for the PB).
Thanks in advance for any wisdom on this!
    PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25 Gig RAM

Thanks for the quick response -- and one follow-up question. Will turning mirror off (which, if I understand correctly, will place the displays in spanning mode) cause a strain on my PB? Since the PB will be supporting the displays of both the external monitor plus its own display. Does that make sense? I actually read something related to this in these discussions which is why I brought it up. I will try to locate that discussion and place a link in this thread so I can better explain.

  • Maximum Thunderbolt/VGA resolution for external displays?

    Hi there
Until recently, I've been using a Macbook Air Core 2 Duo with a MiniDisplayPort output. This is connected via the Apple MiniDisplayPort > VGA adaptor to an LG Flatron W2246 22" display, and running 1920x1080 quite happily.
I recently bought the Macbook Pro 15" quad core i7 with the Intel HD 3000 and AMD Radeon 6490M - a much more powerful machine with a much more powerful graphics card.
However, it only seems to allow me a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 on the Thunderbolt external display port - it won't give me an option for 1080p.
Any ideas? It seems strange that the Macbook Air will give me higher resultions!
    Thanks

I had similar issues to Jason with the technical documentation. It was clear on the maximum resolutions for the laptop's screen and the max resolution on an external monitor, and the max for single and dual link DVI on the adapter pages, but vague on VGA.
I suspected it should work since I have a PC laptop with a graphics card that is a generation behind that can do the full res of my monitor over VGA, but thank you BSteely for confirming this.

  • YUV OR VGA FOR EXTERNAL SCREEN

I want to use an external screen but my VGA input of the external screen is already busy by another computer, so guys tell me if YUV is as good in terms of quality audio/video than VGA ?

If your external display only has VGA and S-video inputs, then you will need a VGA switch (like one of these) to connect two computers with VGA outputs to your single display.
It is possible to convert a VGA output to S-Video with a converter (like this).  However there will be significant degradation of the video quality.  S-video is only standard def at either 480i or 576i resolution.  At 480i (NTSC) the effective resolution is only 720x480 pixels and the S-video signal has considerably lower color signal carrying capacity than VGA..
You have not identified what model Mac you have, but if it's any recent Mac there are no adapters that can directly convert DVI/miniDVI or miniDisplayPort to S-video anyway.  You would be doing a double-conversion from DVI, miniDVI, miniDisplayPort to VGA + VGA to S-video, resulting in significant loss of quality.
VGA and S-video are video interfaces/connections.  They do not carry audio.  Audio is a completely separate interface/connection.

  • How can i set resolution for monitor

The maximum resolution for my monitor is not shown in the preferences.
How can I make my macBook Pro use the display in the highest resolution.

What model MacBook Pro and what video format? Are you talking about the internal display or an external display? 1600 x 1200 is the old style 4:3 NTSC video format and 1920 x 1200 is today's widescreen 16:10 format. They're two different animals. The native resolution and what your notebook or external display can handle or adapt to are not necessarily the same thing.

  • Mac Mini max resolutions for 2 screens?

Hi all. I have the latest Mac Mini and I'm currently running a Samsung 24" at 1920x1080 from the Mini Displayport socket via a DVI adaptor, and also a second display at 1280x1024 from the HDMI socket via DVI adaptor.
I'm looking to upgrade the Samsung to a screen that's 1920x1200 resolution - I'm assuming the Mini can handle this slight increase but I can't find specs anywhere for this. Would it even run a 2560x1600 screen alongside the 1280x1024 one?
    Many thanks in advance.

The > Mac mini (Late 2012) - Technical Specifications doesn't clearly state what the maximum resolution for each output is.
Funny part is, that the Spec's for the previous Mac Mini 2010 and 2011 models does.
One would think that they are the same? Unfortunately that would be pure speculation and contrary to the ASC Terms of Use.

  • HP pavillion m6 notebook, Can't access Bios on external screen.

Hello my laptop screen has been completely ruined due to my kid brother (4years old) but thats not the problem.
The problem is that i'm now using my TV as a external screen via a HDMI cable, my problem is i can't access Bios on it.
Is there a solution to this problem ?
I've read someting about a key combination could solve the problem, but i can't find that combination, and i dont know when i should use it.
    Thanks

Hi Patrickkje, and welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are looking for a key combination to get the external monitor to turn on while in the BIOS. I did some research and found a couple things. First is this document for Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS where you need to press the F10 repeatedly to get to the BIOS menu.
I found another combination that follows pressing FN & F1 at powerup switches to the external monitor.
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Good luck and have a great day!

  • What is the max resolution for external monitors from the intel hd 4000 graphics driver

What is the max resolution supported by the intel hd 4000 graphics driver found on the 13in MacBook Pro for EXTERNAL monitors?

OK so after doing much research... this seems to be the best workflow.
Bring HDV in to FCP as ProRes 422.
Edit show... add bells and whistles, etc.
    Export movie as ProRes 422.
Then for the client - ensure that they have latest version of Quicktime and download the Apple ProRes Quicktime Decoder (for mac or Windows). (It is assumed they have a decent computer to play back on.)
The client will then be able to play a movie encoded as proRes 422 and all will be happy.
As a back up a high resolution h264 file can't hurt.
Thanks for everyones input. We got there in the end.

  • Can I horizontally flip an external screen (Not rotation)

I am currently working on my master-thesis. During the developement of my prototype I came upon a litlle problem…
I would like to "flip" my external screen. Is their any kind of tweak or possibility to do this?
I'm working on a Macbook Air and i'm working with an external screen.
    Any sloution is welcome!
I have tried to download the program "Display Rotation Menu" but you can only rotate (90°, 180°, 270°) the external screen and I would like to flip it…
    Thank in advance!

Thanks for the reply David Won1,
The only problem is, that I would like to flip my screen.
For example: If I can flip my screen it wouldn't be possible to read my text on my screen, because it's written in mirrorwriting. This means that the text that I am reading is written in reverse.
And for my master thesis I would like to have my screen in a "reverse" position, like the previous example.
Is there no tweak, program or solution that can help me?
Again, thanks for all the help.

  • Maximum resolution for external monitor on a B570e

    hi,
    i've just bought a Lenovo B570e in which i've plugged a Philips 221 V. That has a nominal resolution of 1920 x 1080.
However, when I try and setup its resolution, whether it's through the native windows graphic manager or the intel graphic manager, to 1920 x 1080, nothing is displayed. I need to lower the resolution down to 1680 x 1050 in order for the lenovo to display anything on the external monitor.
am i missing something, or is 1680 x 1050 the maximum resolution for dual display?
    thank you
    J.

    thanks for the help.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd
