Can't overwrite some Photoshop files

Hi, I am having a problem overwriting files which up to now have been saving ok. After modifying a Photoshop 6 file (e.g. changing a picture) and trying to save it, I get a message saying that I can't save the file with the same name, I must re-save with a new filename. Then when I have saved it with a new name, I have tried to delete the original file I don't need any more and it won't delete. This is only happening with a few files. Could the file be corrupt?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

This has 99% nothing to do with Photoshop, but rather a generic permission problem on your computer. Verify file permissions with a right-click --> Properties --> Security. Add your current user account with full read and write privileges. Also check the Advanced section while there. You may need to Take ownership, because the files are orphaned. This happens, when they are incorrectly restored from backups or moved across different disks with security settings being out of alignment. e.g. when old users no longer exist.

You are running some sort of automation when you open files - because that error message comes from automation (actions, scripts or plugins) that are trying to target something that isn't there.
Event Scripts was the obvious choice.
Automation plugins, or Flash Panels are the next most obvious -- try disabling all third party plugins and Flash Panels.
The error might come from Generator, if you have the latest Photoshop CC.

You need to look at Dreamweaver as a code editor. You need to learn to create good, clean HTML code with style sheets to make websites with Dreamweaver.
There are tutorials that will take you from a layered .PSD file to HTML. Here's a good one:

Adobe's Muse is a semi-WYSIWYG website layout creator for small websites (1-5 pages). But there is no way you can go from a .PDS file to Muse, you have to start the site in Muse.
I have seen a few Muse sites and they're OK, but there is some code that Muse creates that is kind of odd. If you want a good, clean website that will work for you or your business, Dreamweaver is the best choice. Alternatively, you could hire a pro.

Can't access some shared files

I have a computer here where the user can't access some shared files. From the machine she normally uses, the folders are greyed out. I've checked all the permissions, and everything is in order. She was even able to access the folder from a different Mac. The mac is fully patched, running OS 10.6.8.

After trying multiple things, I have more info to solve the problem. 2 other computers (one is another iBook and the other is a PC) in the house, access the hard drive as advertised with no problems. The only thing that has changed on my computer recently is the replacement of a 1G iPhone with an iPhone 3Gs. This phone did some weird things when syncing, specifically with our photo programs. It locked up Nikon transfer and iPhoto was working strangely. I felt the best way to alleviate those 2 problems was to shut down my computer, and restart. This is when I encountered the problem with accessing the TC. Things are also a little bit more complicated because I use the TC as the storage medium for both iTunes Library and iPhoto Library, both of which I can't access given the current problem.

Photoshop CS Extended can't open some PSD files

Hi,
Yesterday I have created a new PSD file and worked on it and finally saved the file, but now i can't open the file any more. PS always fails to open the file, because of an internal error.
I have tried to open some other PSD files, but 3 of 4 files (on my current HDD) didn't work to open and i don't know why. All of those other PSD files are at least 1 month old and PS could open these files. The last time i have opened these files was two weeks ago. The one PSD file, that worked has the following properties:
image: 1179x1528, 72ppi,8bit,RGB, 15,04 MB
and the files that don't work have the following properties:
image1: 454x340, 71ppi, 16bit, RGB, sRGB (profile), 1,17 MB
image2: 1280x1024, 71ppi, 8bit, RGB, sRGB, 1,92 MB
image3: 1191x1644, 71ppi, 16bit, RGB, sRGB, 12,02 MB
I have got, the meta-data out of Adobe Bridge. I can see the preview Image and the thumbnails in the open-dialog of PS. I tried to open the file with other applications like Paintshop Pro and PhotoImpact and both couldn't open them. Paintshop Pro quits, because it doesn't support the "color model".
I don't know, what else i can do to open these files. I looked around the forum but couldn't find any solution for my problem.
Does anyone know a solution for my problem ?

Dear all. After getting the same problem and read all possible solutions online with no success finally I got rid of this problem successfully and Now it is working perfectly again, and I hope It will work for you all.
Here it goes:
BACKGROUND (my case): PS CS3 installed (Premium-Extended), Win Vista 32 Bits. For months it was working perfectly until yesterday, when the app stopped when attempting opening some PSD files. Some other CS3 apps either stopped. 1st I thought it was some kind of file corruption issue.
After 3 uninstall-reinstall attempts of the whole CS3 and still troubleshooting, I went to the Vista Error Log. Regarding PS CS3 there was a DLL file named "CoolType.dll" which was suspicious to be the main cause of this ****.
Making a research, it relates to installed Fonts in Windows, that gave me the clue to all of it.
Yesterday, I installed fonts while working with PS CS3 Im now pretty sure that this process someway altered the Cooltype.dll file, or fonts were not installed properly.
SOLUTION (my case): locate and uninstall recent fonts (which may have been the problem). NOW my PS3 CS3 is working more than PERFECT!!
HOPE THIS CAN HELP. I think this topic regards some kind of failed font installation. Check it out and remember if you have modified something.

Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.

That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this. You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside. Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

Can't open some PDF files

These are probably very basic questions but here they go. I am having some trouble opening some PDF files from my school's website. I can download them just fine but when I try to open them a window pops up saying the file could not be open because there was an error.
The tricky thing is I was able to download and open PDF files from other sources (mainly email).
Because of that I went into Adobe's website and dowloaded and installed both Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader over the copies that I already had on my computer. Is that bad? Does the computer just write the new copy over the previous one I had without a problem or does it now have duplicated files in the program's folder that could lead to future malfunctioning?
Even tough I haven't noticed any changes in performance yet could that be concern for future problems (crashing, computer slowing down)? Should I reformat the HD to factory settings and start from scratch since I do not have almost any info/ files in the computer yet? Or am I better off leaving the computer as it is and not messing with trying to reformat.

Probably you're opening pdfs using Preview. Preview is very good and it'll open almost any pdf but not 100% of them, for that you must use Acrobat Reader.
What you did was fine, just keep using the computer.

I can't use some .avi files with CS4

I have 2 computers. One with W7 64 bits and PP CS5 and a laptop with Vista 32bits, so I had to install PP CS4 provided with Adobe CS5-5 production premium.
I have a problem with CS4 (as it works with my CS5): some.avi files are not read by CS4 as some other (.avi, .mp4, .m2ts) are read! I can install the file on the timeline, but only the sound is read, no pictures!
I'm not a specialist in computer, neither in Premire Pro, and my english is very bad (Yes, I know, I'm french...) ! Any idea of what to do, please ?

I agree with Jim. Knowing what is inside those AVI files, that are faulting, will likely tell the tale.

It is what's inside, that matters. It might be as simple as just installing the proper CODEC, or it might be that the CODEC used, is a delivery-only CODEC, like DivX, Xvid, and some others.

Sounds like some of those may be Pages '08 files.
You need to open and resave those from Pages '09.

Can't playback some captivate files

I'm reviewing some captivate files on a system that doesn't have Captivate installed. Some play correctly, but a couple recent ones don't show the video - just a white window, and the counter in the corner doesn't advance. However, the audio does play. Can anyone suggest what might be causing this problem - is it some software element missing on the system I'm using which is stopping some files playing correctly? The problem machine is dual boot with Windows Pro XP 32bit SP3 and Windows XP x64. On both OS's it's the same - earlier files play correctly but the more recent ones don't.

Personally I'd investigate the Flash Player or Plug In version installed. It's simple to determine. Just play the Captivate, then right-click and look at the window the right-click should produce.
You may need to upgrade (or possibly downgrade) the version.

Can't encode some MEPG files

Hello,
We have to encode about 60 videos from the MPEG format to
FLV. The CS3 Video Encoder can't encode some of them. I got an
error window with the message : Une erreur interne
d’application s’est produite. In english, that means
that an internal error occured in the application.
I have tried Flash 8 (on2vp6) and Flash 7 (Sorenson Spark)
encoding.
Super and Riva can encode these files but with a lower
quality so I'd prefer to use CS3 Encoder.
I can't manage to find a difference between those which can
be encoded and those which can't.
Can anyone help ?

they may not all be corrupted. It may also just be the type
of compression used to create the mpeg. Adobe media encoder is
picky, it will only encode what it can understand. So if you used
mp3 to compress the audio it may not like that. I guess the best
option along with usiing .mov is to not use any compression on the
video that way you know that adobe media encoder will not get
messed up.

JMF can not play some MP3 files on the web

I try to write the application using JMF with MP3 plug-in. The application will search the word in Google dictionary
and play the MP3 sounf online.
The almost word is playing good with the MP3PLAYER, but some is always no sound.
And Itry to add ControllerListener for this, and every word got the realizeComplete and endOfMedia event.
but I just can not here the sound for some word.

Reader 10 can't open some .pdf files

Reader 10 on a Windows Vista system cannot open some .pdf files. Ones that I create within MS Office open fine. An IRS file (Form W-9) opens fine online, but won't open after downloading. The computer response is "Not responding". Uninstall/reinstall hasn't changed anything, nor has rebooting. Does anybody have suggestions how to tackle this problem?

It is happening to me too! What browser are you using? It happens to me in Firefox on my brand new MacBook Pro. I don't have the problem on my old MacBook Air....
