Can't pair my Apple wireless keyboard

My Apple wireless keyboard was working and pairing with my iMac until this morning.  I got a low battery message, replaced the batteries and the keyboard wouldn't pair.  It was recognized but wouldn't/couldn't pair (though it will pair with my iPad).  I tried to pair without a "PIN" number and now the keyboard isn't even recognized by my iMac (though still working fine with the iPad).  What's going on and how do I fix it?

Hello:
Try a couple of things:
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
Reset the PRAM and SMC
I am assuming you have a wired KB that works.

  • HT201178 My old wireless keyboard malfunctioned. How can i pair a new wireless keyboard when I can't even log in to access the setup?

    Should I have purchased a wired keyboard?

    First make sure the batteries aren't dead and that the keyboard hasn't already been paired with another device. If it hasn't, the keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Otherwise see these support articles:
    Mac mini (Mid 2011 and later) and iMac (Late 2012): Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
    Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
    If you have a third-party Bluetooth keyboard, you may need a wired keyboard to complete the pairing process. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.

  • TA24778 issues with pairing an Apple wireless keyboard by bluetooth with iPad Mini

    Does anyone have any tips about successfully pairing an Ipad Mini with an Apple Wireless keyboard, please? Apart from changing the batteries on the keyboard, I have had a lot of difficulty in doing it successfully.

    Which Apple wireless keyboard are you using?
    See this Apple doc -> iOS: Apple Wireless Keyboard compatibility
    The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
    Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
    If you're using a compatible keyboard, does it pair with your Mac? Try turning it off and then back on and then pairing it again.

  • IPad 2 can't pair with iMac wireless Keyboard (late 2009)

    ipad 2 will not pair with wireless keyboard that came with iMac late 2009.
    I've read countless ways to do this in support forums, but no matter what I do, I can not get the ipad 2 to work with my wireless keyboard.
    In settings>bluetooth, I UNCHECKED discoverable for the keyboard, as I've read many times.
    I then clicked the minus button and a box came up ( I can not recall what it said but it basically asked if I wanted to ?remove? the device, and I clicked OK.
    Then, I went to the iPad 2, into bluetooth, and went to pair it. The keyboard was discoverable, and then something with a code came up on the iPad screen, and I clicked OK.
    NOTHING happened, even though it said it was connected.
    I looked at my iMac screen, and there was something there with a code that had to be typed in? This is where I get confused. I disconnected the keyboard, yet I got a box on the iMac screen, asking me to put the code in to pair it with the ipad 2 !  I figured it must be a mistake, because I disconnected the keyboard from the imac.
    well, I tried to key in the code and it worked on the IMAC...which, technically, it should not have been able to do.
    I've watched countless Youtube videos, read through the support forums here and...I can't find anyone with  this same problem and so, I toss it out to you all in Apple Support.
    What could I be doing wrong??
    Thanks.

    Spoke with an Apple Care Tech today on this issue:
    Apparently, this is how it works : First, you have to go to BLUE TOOTH and when you see your keyboard, delete it or remove it, and then shut down the computer.
    Then, you must go to your iPAD. (initially, your blue tooth on iPAD should be TURNED OFF- now, turn it ON.
    Press and hold the button on the right side of your keyboard for 5 seconds, and watch for it to blink then go off.
    Next, push the button on the side of the keyboard again, it will go on.
    On your ipad, under Blue Tooth, you will see some numbers and it might say NOT CONNECTED. Click that.
    Be patient and then under that, something like YOUR NAME KEYBOARD will appear. Click it and it will give you a code to type in. Type it in. Be patient. Might not take the first time. Do it again. When the code comes up again, type it in again.
    This worked for me as suddenly the keyboard was paired with the iPAD 2.
    When you want to unpair it, turn blue tooth on the  ipad OFF. Turn your computer back on. Initially your screen will come up to sign in (if you have it set up that way). In a few seconds, you will see that your keyboard has reconnected to your Mac. Sign in and that's that:)

  • Can't pair apple wireless keyboard in Windows

    Hi
    I have just purchased the new June 2009 Macbook Pro. I've used bootcamp to install Windows XP and i'm trying to pair my apple wireless keyboard.
    Its the brand new apple wireless keyboard but when i search for the device in the Bluetooth control panel, its displayed but when it attempts to pair it says completed ok, but the keyboard still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    ' Peter, I'm sorry to say this, but it sounds like you specifically either have a genuine hardware problem, or your Windows installation is sicker than most. You should never see the sort of symptoms you're talking about in a normal, healthy system!!!
    ' However, the bad / sad fact of the matter is that, even were you not in the position you're in, you couldn't use either keyboard or mouse when in Windows!
    ' I am able to (and have done - my Vista system is still configured successfully with 'em - I haven't removed them despite them being useless!) propperly pair both devices on Vista without much of a challenge - pretty standard fair actually... But that's all a smokescreen. Despite this - and despite being able to actually query each device over bluetooth for the services they provide and so on - they still cannot be actually used!!! No matter what, there is never any response from the OS to input or actions on either keyboard or mouse.
    ' <Shrugs> What can I tell ya. It does sound like Peter needs to move onto solving his bluetooth problem though anyways - in case this causes trouble for him (you) at some later date with devices that actually would be useful!
    ' Later!

  • What functions work with iPhone 3GS on OS4 with Apple wireless keyboard?

    I've successfully paired my Apple Wireless Keyboard with my iPhone 3GS running OS4. I can type messages and emails, but many functions seem to be missing, like moving to the "send" button in email or moving around my iPhone screen. Does anyone know where to find info on what keys on the wireless keyboard perform what functions on the iPhone? Thanks

    Does it matter?
    On topic, there are a few things that work with the keyboard on to iPhone:
    * F1 and F2 - Brightness
    * F3 - Disabled
    * F4 - Disabled
    * F5 and F6 - Disabled
    * F7 - Previous Track
    * F8 - Pause/Play iPod
    * F9 - Skip Track
    * F10 - Mute
    * F11 - Volume Down
    * F12 - Volume Up
    * Eject - Disabled (unless Apple adds a mini-Disc)
    * Caps Lock - YEAY
    * FN Control Option/Alt Command - All Disabled DOH
    * Arrow Keys - YEAY
    Wow, troll. Stop bringing up dead threads...especially when you can't get your information correct.
    The eject key hides and displays the softkeyboard in text entry mode.

  • DBT-120, Apple Wireless Keyboard, and a Mystery

    My Apple Wireless Keyboard randomly goes through these periods where it will disconnect for no reason. I don't recieve a "Connection Lost" message, and the bluetooth icon in the menu bar still believes it's connected -- the keys just don't do anything. If I attempt to disable bluetooth and then enable the computer gets stuck with the spinning beach-ball of doom. If turn the keyboard on and off nothing happens. If I unplug the D-Link DBT-120 Rev. B2 from the built-in USB and plug it back in, a few seconds later the keyboard works again.
    I have changed the batteries and that hasn't resolved anything. I've attempted to change the DBT-120 to a different Built-In USB port and still nothing. I've attempted to pinpoint a specific program, task, or enviromental item but have failed. I can't find a common thread.
    Sometimes this will happen once or twice in an hour period. Sometimes it will happen every 2 minutes. Restarting the computer also corrects the issue for a while. It will go days once and a while without the issue... the sometimes it'll happen for hours on end.
    The DBT-120 is up to date with the latest firmware. And I of course can't install the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Firmware because I'm already in Tiger. Nor do I have access to a machine that I can.
    I contacted D-Link and they said they have had no reported issues... The only calls they have received about the DBT-120 Rev B2 not working were caused by PC driver issues... or a unit that died caused by power surges. He said if the unit was causing the issue the OS would lose Bluetooth all together -- it would be the same as just unplugging it.
    So.... any ideas?

    Have you tried pulling the batteries out, & maybe try a set of fresh Alkaline batteries?
