Can't place whole image in InDesign

Please help!
I have a jpeg image that I'm trying to place on a double page spread on indesign. The image is 5906x1378 pixels (3.3MB) - but only the first third of the image shows up.
I have tried fitting the content in different ways, I've tried changing the display performance.. I just can't work it out.

I have a jpeg image that I'm trying to place on a double page spread on indesign.
If you are trying to place it on the spread try making a frame first and placing into the frame rather than directly on the page.
So draw an empty frame:
And with it selected place your jpeg:
Then set the fitting of the frame to Fit Content Proportionately.
It may be that your 5906pixel image is set to 72ppi, which isn't unusual from digital cameras—that makes its starting output width 82 inches.

  • How can I place good screenshots into InDesign?

    This is essentially what I am trying to do as well...Is there a correct answer that was given? How do know which answer is the one correct answer that is noted in the forum? My question is identical to the one below. My screen shots are off a website.
    I am working on a guide in InDesign to distribute to our customers that shows step by step instructions on how to use our software.  I am taking screenshots of the software and placing them into InDesign.  I have tried this many different ways now and I can't get the images to look clear.  I have taken the screenshot and pasted it into Illustrator, Photoshop, even Paint and then saved it as many different file types, jpeg, gif, tif, etc.  It looks great in Illustrator or Photoshop but after I place the image into InDesign it looks awful.  It looks blurry on the screen and after I print.
    If I paste the image into Illustrator and then copy from there and simply paste into InDesign the image looks much better.  Almost perfect.  But I know this isn't the right way to do this and the images aren't saved/linked this way.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • How to place the images in Indesign xml file by Javascript?

    How to place the images in Indesign xml file by Javascript?
    We got the Indesign xml file, how to give the image placement link by Indesign javascript? Please help me its urgent.

    Hi,
    You can pass the image url as a href attribute=> file:///Users/me/Documents/my_pic.jpg directly within your xml. It just needs that you pass a local, static and valid url.
    If you want to add image later once the xml is flowed and so target specific nodes and inject images, it's a bit more complex. If the node is not part of the layout, you may try to reach the XMLElement objet and such an attribute, then layout the element.
    var x = some XMLElement
    x.xmlAttributes.add("href","file:///Users/m/Documents/my_pic.jpg" );
    If already placed, then you have to get the associated pageItem, then place your file into it.
    pagItm.place ( File ( "/Users/m/Documents/my_pic.jpg" ) );
    Hope that helps,

  • Can I Place an Image in a Table Cell?

    I have a table in ID CS3. Can I place an image in one, or more than one, table cell? I see a place to manage fills, but don't see an option for images.

    I am working on a calendar project and variously want to: (1) put an individual image in a box, (2) put a continuous image behind more than one box like two dates side by side, (3) put a continuous image in multiple boxes that although they constitute a multiple of boxes, might not be rectangular, (4) put text over any or all of the preceeding.
    I can places gridlines on the page, create text and image boxes for for each date, and the join the images boxes as necessary. Then for the box lines I could use an empty table or I could draw them individually and group them. This would get me what I want. I just thought this might be done easier with a table.

  • How can we place an image in already created inline graphic frame?

    Hi,
    AIM::
    To place an image in the inline graphic frame.
    OBSERVATION::
    As i have analysed the snippet Runner,i came to know that it allows to load the placegun with the file(in my case image). but in order to place it,we need to click on the document..and then the image is placed at (0,0) of the page(I suppose Indesign does it automatically).
    what is needed,is to place image in already created inline graphic frame. i have created a inline graphic frame at some position in the story,but now i required to place image in this created frame.

    I have the same problem. Can you give me a short code sample for that.

  • How can I place a file in INDESIGN 3 at 100%

    I am a novice Indesign user using Indesign 3 on a PC. The other office I work with is using Indesign 3 on a Mac.
    When I open their indd files and view them, the placed images indicate 100% when I use the direct selection tool to check the percentage. However, If I design the same page, create a frame and place the same image from the original link they used as well, when I fit the content proportionally, and use the direct selection tool to see the size, it comes in at the percentage from the original file, say 42% if it was decreased by approx. half.
    I am sure there is an easy explanation for this, but I cannot find it in my searching. Can someone help me understand what I am missing here.
    I appreciate your assistance with this question.
    Ginger Creswell

    Since you have her file, what happens if you open her file and place the image without first making and selecting a frame? Is it the same size as the image in the frame?
    >Yes when I make the frame, place the image, fit the image to the frame, it reads 42% -(then 100% when selected with the black arrow tool) this is the way I believe it should be.
    Unless the frame you create is exactly the same size as the image you place into it, it will always change size if you fit the image to the frame. If the frame is smaller, the image will have to be made smaller to fit into the frame. The same applies to a larger frame.
    I don't get the impression that you are confusing scaling with cropping, but it should be mentioned that you can have a 100% size image in a smaller frame if part of the image is outside the boundries of the frame.
    Also, I mentioned in an earlier post that the most likely error would be that the image in the original isn't the same (has the same name, but has been changed in its original program) as the image you are trying to place, even if your San Fran designer sent it to you (she could have sent you the wrong image). If you open her file and package it, it will spit out a copy of the image, which you can try placing to see if you still get the same results.

  • [InDesign CS3] Unable to place PICT image on InDesign document.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to place a PICT type image on InDesign CS3 document but it is being shown disabled in open dialog. And when I drag this image(PICT type) to InDesign document, I am getting an error message "Quick Time and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture".
    Note: This problem is coming on both MAC and Windows.
    Thanks in anticipation

    When you place content from InDesign, why are you exporting it as JPG?
    You can either
    save the INDD file and place it directly into InDesign or
    export the INDD as PDF/X-4 and place it into InDesign.
    This should result in better quality than using JPGs which will be always a loss of crispyness, change of colors, blurry text and loss of quality.

  • Can you place an image in a div tag and then add type over top of it?

    From reading Vista forums support for SSD is one of the things Vista SP2 and Windows 7 hope (need) to improve upon. I was in a similar discussion once befoe on SSDs:

    "My guess is that [Samsung and Microsoft] are maybe working on the OS recognizing an SSD with a 4K-byte sector size instead of a hard disk drive with a 512-byte sector size," Wong said.
    Sun is already working with Samsung to bulk up SSD support on the ZFS (Zettabyte File System), which is included in the Solaris OS, and will also be supported in Apple's upcoming Mac OS X 10.6, codenamed Snow Leopard. Sun is adding capabilities to boost the durability and performance of SSDs on ZFS-based operating systems. For example, Sun may add defragmentation capabilities for SSDs, which organizes data in a particular order to enable quicker data access.
    SSDs were not considered ideal for defragmentation because of limited read-and-write capabilities, Wong said. However, Samsung and Sun in July jointly announced an 8G-byte SSD that bumped up durability from 100,000 read-and-write cycles to 500,000. That brings defragmentation in SSDs closer to reality, which could improve its caching and provide quicker access to data. Sun plans to put SSDs into storage products later this year.

  • Double spreads - can I place an image across two pages in facing page mode?

    Hi, I'm just getting into Pages to be able to create custom wedding album designs easily (I use Aperture). I'd really like to be able to place an image across two facing pages and I noticed that there is a 'facing page' mode, but this looks like it only applies to the view.
    I tried laying an image across two 10x13 inch pages, but of course this doesn't work. I also tried to insert a 10x26 inch page as an alternative so that I can treat it as a double page. However, when I try to do this, every page resets to that size.
    Is there a way of creating two page sizes (one normal, the other double width) in the same document so I can do this, or is there a way of spreading an image across two facing pages?
    Thanks

    brown,
    You've bumped into one of Pages' limitations -- it won't allow one image across a spread. I've heard rumors of people kludging it by cutting the image in half, and putting each half on the spread pages.

  • I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member but when I play it in the viewing  window the top of it is cropped off but I can see the whole image in the project  strip. will the whole image transfer  when I make a dvd or will it crop the top ?

    I'm editing a wedding that I shot for a family member, But when I play it the top of the image is cropped off in the veiwing window but it shows the whole image in the project strip. When I make a DVD with it transfer the whole image or will it be the chopped off image and how do I make sure it is the whole image ?

    What version of iMovie are you using?
    For 9.09..
    If the image is not 720p, you might have to crop it to have freehand control over which bit gets cut off.
    How to crop it...
    In the project window hover your cursor over a section of the clip in the bottom right corner as seen below:
    Click on the cog and open up Cropping,Ken Burns and Rotation.
    Click on Crop and drag and set to where you want it to be cropped, then click Done. (Because mine isn't 720p, iMovie automatically makes it so I cannot include the black border. If you do not mind this click Allow Black.)
    Glad if this helped! Please rate up.

    Right. You can't make an image map out of a background.  You must insert the image directly into the page (HTML markup).  Then apply hotspot tools to the image.

  • How can I place Tagged Text in InDesign

    I use tagged text in the files I place
    in InDesign. For example,
    <cn>This is the chapter number
    <ct>This is the chapter title
    <cst>This is the chapter subtitle
    <bt>This is the beginning of the body text
    <ah>This is an A-level head
                    and so on. In PageMaker, there was a checkbox in the "place"
    dialogue box named "Read tags." I checked that, and when I placed the file in the template (in which I had the styles defined), the whole chapter appeared with the formatting I wanted for each style.
                    I can't find the equivalent checkbox in InDesign. I can't believe it is no longer there, but search as I do, I can't find it. There is a lot online about exporting tagged text, but where, oh where, is my checkbox for placing tagged text? If someone knows where it is, I'd be very grateful.
