Can't play .amr files (MMS audio) after upgrading to iOS4

I was able to play .amr files (MMS audio) prior to upgrading to iOS4 on my iPhone 3G but now get a notice saying this file type is not supported. Does anyone know how I can play these files on my phone again? Thanks!

I recorded the movie using a camera, and the file plays on the camera as a movie... I'm stumped.
Then I suggest you compare the size of the playing file on your camera with the size of the non-playing file on your computer—they may not be the same. As QTKirk indicated, 40.37 KB seems unreasonable for any normally encoded non-anamorphic 1280x720 MPEG-4/AVC file more than a few frames long. For comparison purposes, a typical 1280x720 JPEG photo compressed to its smallest file size setting on a Mac would have a file size on the order of 100 KB. Other ways to look at your file would be...
a) if it is one second long, then its data rate is on the order of 322.96 Kbps
b) if it is two seconds long, then its data rate is on the order of 161.48 Kbps
c) if it is three seconds long, then its data rate is on the order of 107.65 Kbs
etc., etc., etc. which is unheard of for any reasonable amount of quality for 1280x720 HD dimensions in this compression format.

Can CDHtmlDialog play swf file with audio component?

Hello, I'm using CDHtmlDialog in our application to play swf that shows user how to do a workflow. It works fine if swf does NOT have audio; if the swf has audio component, then it does not play.
Can CDHtmlDialog play swf with audio?
If not, any suggestion on how to implement playing swf file with audio?

Can't play left for dead 2, after upgrading to mountain lion to my MBPR 15"

Dear all the member in here.,
I upgraded my MBPR to mountain lion 10.8.2 in last two day. After i upgraded my machine. I can't play L4D2. Its open and splash screen appear, and then it goes to black screen. But, i can play L4D2 before i didnt upgrade. I dont know why. Please help me.

What does the Valve Software say about running L4D2 on OS X 10.8? Are there any patches/fixes?

Can't view pdf files using safari after upgrading 10.5.8 to 10.6.5

I noticed that right after I upgraded from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.5, I no longer could view any pdf's I would click on unless I used "control click" option to download the file/pdf. Before upgrading all I had to do was click on a pdf link and it opened up automatically in a new window. Now all I get a black screen unless I "control click"
I am thankful that I saw in the discussion area that I at least have a way to view it but do not understand why upgrading to 10.6.5 changed the way I use to be able to open/view pdf files.

I suspect you've an adobe pdf viewer plugin that requires safari to run in 32 bit mode. Either remove it from HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & restart Safari; or select Safari in Applications, do a File-Get Info - and check the 32 bit box, again restarting Safari.

probably because 10.6.x runs Safari as a 64 bit process by default, and the plugin won't work that way. Maybe there's an update for it (assuming the plugin guess is correct )

HT4072 can't play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) with 5.1 audio tracks

I have two Macs, one with a mini-optical out and no audio through its mini-displayport, and the other that supports digital audio out through its mini-displayport. On either of my Macs, how can I play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) in 5.1 using Quicktime or iTunes or VLC? I've heard I need Perian. Is this true? If so, how do I configure it on either machine?
Note that when I connect the computer that supports audio through the mini-displayport to my receiver, my home theater receiver detects a PCM audio connection, but the audio I get out of my speakers is still stereo.
Both computers are running Snow Leopard. I haven't had the need to upgrade to Lion yet, but if the answer is that I need Lion do do this, I'd spend the $29.

that's because now mplayer they switch to libavformat demuxer for mkv and ogg and i think is a bug in smplayer because is making some configuration for files in file_settings in which is sets demuxer & co. this switch is confusing smplayer and it should be reported upstream
p.s if you actually select demuxer from smplayer to mkv it would work perfectly

Cannot play .amr file from Internet

I accessed the following link to play the .amr audio file using QuickTime

When I select 'Open With' in the Windows dialog and select QuickTime, the file gets downloaded as .amr.3gp instead of just .amr. And then QuickTime gives an error that it can't play the file. However if I save it first, it gets saved as .amr and can be played in QT.
I'm providing this .amr file on a public blog and it should be possible to play it using "Open with" option.
How to resolve this issue?

The file will play with QT for windows and also supported by Real Player. It seems you need to select the .amr in QT preferences or make the change in the Folder Options control panel under File Types. If neither works then a firewall is kicking it out
Oh, just re-read your post. your using Vista OS. Which did away with File Types in the Folder Options control panel. Great OS...Microsoft. Well the website does play but to navigate Vista is a chore I'm not getting into

you just followed the wrong road try this one instead and you will love it.
*1st of all*: Dont pay attention to QuickTime, no matter what movie you want to view
just download and install VLC Media Player and your worries about formats, video codecs, audio codecs, multi zone dvd reproduction will be over in a sec!
just "open as" > VLC Media Player and you will see everything and if you have a subtitle file, just drag it into the movie

I received an iTune audio file by email but I can't play the file nor import the file into the library. If I click on the file it opens iTunes but nothing else happens. Any suggestions?

Did you bounce at 44.1kHz, 16 bit? AIFF or AAC or MP3 should be fine for iTunes, but sample rate and bit depth is important.

HT3775 can't play wmv file on quicktime?

I can't play .wmv files on quicktime. I installed both QuickTime MPEG2 and Flip4Mac WMV hoping that this would solve the problem but it did not. When trying to play any audio .wmv file I get an error box stating "the document (filename).wmv could not be opened. The movie is not in a format the QuickTime Player understands. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file". Anyone know what I might need here?

Hmm, Perian should provide flv playback in Quicktime. Maybe you need to update Perian? I used to always use Perian but since upgrading to Lion I have not installed it and now rely on VLC for non-apple standard media playback. Deluxe can handle the flv-format.It will convert flv to mov. Hope it helps

I updated my computer and now I can't play mov files from anywhere - won't play in FCP 7, Quicktime. Not sure what updates they were specifically since i hit the "update All" button without going over each one. Please help!! operating on 10.6.8 with FCP7

Just take a look at the last few days posts here and you'll see many people with the same problem and some possible solutions.
But you should never do any software updates unless you have a bootable backup of your startup drive. FCP7 is no longer being supported by apple and updating anything is fraught with dangers.
