Can't play files- Not Logic's fault?

I managed to get a DVD full of multitrack session of classic recordings by Queen, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, etc but they won't open in Logic. They won't even preview in Finder when I hit the space bar. The files have substance but they seemed locked or something. They have an iTunes icon by default but when I double-click or try and drag into iTunes nothing happens.
Some folders have a .pk extension with a text file icon for every .wav file. Others just look like a folder full of .wav files that I'm dying to hear!?
Any ideas as to what's going on and if I can use Logic to crack them open?

Don't know. The weird thing is that you don't even seem to get any error message, which I'ld expect if the file was corrupted or if it was somehow secured or locked. Or maybe try this approach, if you haven't already:
Rightclick a .WAV file, what does it present as the default program to be opened with?

um - i think that defeats the point of the daemon? i think it assumes you have all your music in one place - which i guess most people do - playing one song at random is not really it's game as far as i know

This seems to have been asked before but I can't find an answer!!
I have a small app that i use for work which essentially just links to pdfs stored on a wordpress site
All has been working well until recently when android phones can no longer open the files - they get a "can't open file - not a valid pdf file" message
It seems to happen with many but not all the files. Some examples of problematic ones are:

Oddly, it seems only to be a problem when trying to open directly from the link in the app into adobe reader. If you download the file onto the phone THEN open it in Reader it works fine!
As I say, this seems to be a recent problem - has been working perfectly up until now.
I'd really appreciate it if you have any thoughts / suggestions - I don't want to have to ask all the users to install a different PDF reader app!

Can't open file--"not compatible with this version"

I can not open a photoshop file, although it was saved with the same version. "The file is not compatible with this version" can someone help me.

Why java only can display GIF file not jpeg and BMP ??

Did anyone know why java only can display GIF file not in jpeg and BMP ?? This is because the quality of GIS is not as good as Jpeg and BMP
any code to load the display process ??

you can do jpegs but im not sure about bmps.
The only thing ive noticed is that java cant support transparent jpegs, only transparent gifs

When sycning photos get error message: can't sync file not found

Trying to sync my wife's new 3gs to my macbook Pro. Never had any problems syncing my phone. With hers I can sync everything but photos. I get an error message saying can't sync file not found. I have no idea what file it is looking for or whether it is missing from the phone or my computer.

Thanks so much. The file path wasn't exactly the same as the link said, but it was close enough that I found it in a few minutes. Trashed the ipod cache as instructed, and now all my iphones and ipods have synced photos. Thanks again, would have never found that file on my own.

Mplayer can't play files with spaces in their name

After scratching my head and reinstalling codecs several times without luck, and old memory resurfaced of this occuring before and I managed to solve the problem.
The thing is that if you doubleclick a file in Nautilus, and said files has spaces in its name, mplayer won't be able to play it, and gives a very cryptic error message, ie "cannot play file a%20b.avi" if the name of the file is "a b.avi".
The trick is mentioned in this thread -- you edit /usr/share/applications/mplayer.desktop and change 'Exec=gmplayer %U' to 'Exec=gmplayer %F'.
The bug has been around forever, and hasn't been fixed yet. Perhaps the mplayer devs don't want to fix it. In any case, I would propose that either we fix this in the mplayer Arch package, or that someone more knowledgeable than I get in touch with the devs about it.
Just a suggestion, but I think it's kind of important. It's really confusing to new users.

In my opinion, it it's not arch's job to fix bugs from upstream, no matter if it's mplayer or gnome's fault. Of course there are exceptions, eg if a bug in a critical package hardlocks the whole system, or adds a huge security risk.
I would like to belive that the general arch user is smart enough to find one of the 30 threads about this bug (or the entry on the bugtracker) and fix it themselves. Personaly I would put this in the same category as packages that don't have a .desktop file at all from upstream.

How can I play files that are possibly corrupt (play fine in other apps)?

I have these three mp3 files that I am trying to add to itunes so that I can add them to my ipod. They play fine on winamp and I've listened to the entire song on each track without any problems. Itunes will not let me add them to the library though. It doesn't give me an error message, it simply doesn't add them. I've cleared my entire library and tried adding only these 3, by drag and drop as well as the file browser, and I'm certain that they simply do not appear in the library. Is there any way to fix the corrupt part of these files, or have itunes just ignore it and try playing them anyway?

iTunes is very fussy about tags and sometimes will not play files other players accept.
There are vearious things you could try, but backup any files before experimenting on them.

Windows technical preview enterprice can't play video file wmp and play games on desktop...

MS mentioned that one cannot play DVD on WMP once Win 10 TP is installed.( See under Important Notes )

I have VLC installed on my Win 10 TP. It plays DVDs. So it should also plays video files.

[Problem] Totem can't play files in Samba network

Hi, the problem I have is the one wrote in subject.
Some infos:
I've working gvfs-smb, as I can access to files in Nautilus
Totem has no problem with codec or else
VLC is able to play files over the network, Totem does not

I did find an error log related to the error code and tried all suggestions on the list of recommendations, still no luck
I definitely am running OS X10.5.8 (hopefully will be updating later on this month)
I tried several brand new discs from the same box, still no luck.
My last option is to go out and try a different brand, guess I'll go with Verbatim this time but I think I'll poke around some more before buying 20 more new discs.

Clementine can't play files with special characters

I saw Clementine can't play some mp3 files - it would just say "error loading file".
So I opened an mp3 from the terminal and found out that the problem was the characters in the file name.
For example, it wouldn't play "Schiller - Tired (mit Jaël).mp3" but works fine with "Schiller - Tired (mit Jael)"
Any ideas why?

What do you mean 'only play and not buy' ? If you mean that a song has 'play' against it in the store then that implies that you've already bought it and it's in your iTunes library

I upgraded to QT 7.5.5 and now I can't play file

Hey QuickTime Golden Gods, I was wondering if you can help me with this: yesterday I downloaded and installed the newest QT (7.5.5, free version) and now I cannot play a .mov file with which I had no problems at all before. When I try to open it, all I get is a pitch-black screen. This also happens when I try to open it with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. I tried it in a different computer (same OS) which has an older version of QT (same versions of IE and Firefox) and it works beautifully, so the problem has to have something to do with the new QT.
I uploaded the .mov file to SendSpace - I'm not sure if this is the right etiquette, but I thought you might want to check the file for yourselves; it's the "interactive booklet" for The Hold Steady's 'Boys and Girls in America' album:

I have same problem but how do i uninstall 7.5.5 w/o whole system reinstall?
I downloaded older quicktime, deleted current quicktime, but upon installing it says can't install cuz newer version is running.

ITunes says nano can't play file type

After updating to 1.1.3 for my nano 8GB, there are 101 songs that iTunes refuses to sync to the nano, saying:
Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "Great Escape", were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod.
When I use the disclosure triangle to see details, all 101 songs give the same info, for example:
"Multiply" was not copied because the file type is not supported by the iPod "My iPod".
But these are all just MP3 files. Some, if not all, of them were purchased in the iTunes store, then burned to a standard CD (aiff?), then later reloaded. They've all been played before on this iPod. I still have the original protected song files filed away, and I could pull them out, but I shouldn't have to do that. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

Was there some reason you wanted to change the format of the songs? I've seen this problem before and I can't remember what (if any) solution there was other than to use the original AAC files.
Remember, by burning the original files to a cd then re-importing to an mp3 file, you have compressed an already compressed file even further and so compromised the sound quality.
I know you should be able to use mp3 files but is there some reason you don't want to use the original AAC file?
