Can't play iPhone songs/podcasts in the car via iPod Menu?

Greetings,
I have an iPhone 5 iOS version 8.1. The iPod menu in the car (2009/'10 Altima) recognizes my iPhone and displays the songs and podcasts well. But when i click on a file i want to play, it cant play it and i have to do it manually from my iPhone. This is frustrating. This problem happened since i updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1. It was all good in iOS 8.0.2. I hope Apple notices this problem and includes the fix in the next update. Am i the only one who has this problem?

Never mind. It somehow fixed by itself.

It worked the first day i had the phone, and then i updated to Ios 8.0.2 and it quit working.
Now when i get in the car, it acts like it is connected and makes the same call it was on after syncing to bluetooth, but it really isn't on a call. This is happening on both cars.
Does anyone know if this is the phone and i need to take it to Apple or if there is an issue that Apple is working on getting a fix for?
My son in law has the exact same phone as me, we both got the on 10/6, he had a Dodge Dart and his is working via bluetooth.
Someone HELP please, as i consider this a safety issue by not having my calls go to bluetooth.

We had the same problem, but figure out the solution.
You MUST have at least 1 song added to your ITUNE! After you add a free song, then everything else should work as normal!

Iphone 4 iOS 7.1.1 can't play some songs

All of a sudden I can't play some songs on my Iphone 4. I have iOS 7.1.1. Some of the songs are grayed out and have the download progress square within the circle icon next to them. Tried syncing with ITunes on my pc but get an error "!" next to the same songs. ITunes defines this icon to mean that the song could not be found as it may have been deleted or moved. Anyone have any ideas?

durrrrr. nevermind. re-installed itunes and it looks good for now.

If not is there a way around this other than going for something like Sonos ?

Now it's Wednesday (2 days since I originally posted) & my iPhone appears to have finally restored all my apps, but it still says it's restoring from iCloud backup. If all my apps are restored, what else could it be restoring? IS it actually restoring anything at this point, or is it still in 'glitch' mode??? I had this problem yesterday (or a very similar problem). When you click on your purchased song, an old email address (Apple Account ID) pops up and asks for an old password to authorize permission. It is very stubborn and does not really co-operate when using the usual remedies (forgot password - send me an email - what is your birthday, etc). I fumbled around and eventually got it all straightened out. I can tell you what I did - I cannot tell you what exactly worked. Access your current Apple Itunes account. Deauthorize all computers (up to 4 or 5 in total, I forget...) that can play your purchased music. Update your password. Close your account and Itunes. Open Itunes and try your new password. Now try the "old" music that would not play before - your "old" email/Account ID should still pop-up asking for a password. Delete the old email/ID and put in your current one. Then use your new password to activate. This should solve the problem of old ID / old Password / no permission. My apologies for the imprecise method, again I am not sure exactly WHAT worked here - all I know is that the Itunes Help sections and tutorials were good - but of no use in this case.

Actually, JinKL, doing a search from "Songs" is harder to do and does not give the exact same result. It's harder to do because I have to key an artist's name rather than pick one from a list. The results aren't the same for several reasons. If you key an artist name that matches a song, you get that song, too. OK, that doesn't happen THAT much, but it does happen. And if I key a partial name, say "Morrison" for "Van Morrison", I get all the songs on "Morrison Hotel" by the Doors.
"All Songs" should be added to the iPad music player. While they're at it, they should add column titles and allow allow sorting on the column values.

I am not aware of a way to play two songs at once in iTunes. However, at least on a Mac, you can definitely open and play multiple things in QuickTime player. Sooo, you could open a music file in QT Player then start it and start the audio book in iTunes. Or open the audio book in QT player and listen to that there while iTunes plays music.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. Thes those iTunes are not restored to the iPod unless they are in the iTunes library.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

Do you mean crashes?
Try doing a full reset. otherwise it sounds like you might want to walk it into the nearest Apple Store and get an opinion there.

I have a Sonos system in my house and suddenly discovered that many songs I bought off of iTunes years ago are 'grayed out' when I try to play them from my iPhone or do not appear as options at all when I try to play them on Sonos from my overall music library. I agree it was not all communicated real well, but in your case it will work out. You missed the program where you could have upgraded 100 tracks for 30 cents each (=$30) but now you can do it via Match (=$25). It works pretty simply, per this document:

Yes. If you subscribe to iTunes Match, you can download your previously purchased music again in the iTunes Plus format. To do so:
You need to delete the original DRM song from your library first. Doing this enables you to download the song again in the iTunes Plus format from iTunes in the Cloud.
Click the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store.
Click Music.
Locate the artist of the song you want to upgrade.
Click the iCloud Download icon next to the song you want to upgrade.
Just don't forget to put the Plus files on your hard drive -- properly backed up of course -- and to cancel the Match subscription before the second year rolls around!

Can´t play iphone´s music on itunes wirelessly

Hi! hope somebody can help me i tried several procedures but no one works so far.
Before i upgrade my itunes i was able to play my iphone´s music from my pc itunes wirelessly, this is because i have not enought space on my local disk so i have no music in there.
Now i´m trying with the itunes 11 so i am able to sync and see my library but can´t play any song, all the songs are greyed out.
anyone knows how to solve this?

To play tracks from an iPod, you need to have iTunes set for manual management of the iPod. Check to see if that's how you have your set, and if not, that's what you'll need to change.
