Can't play music under iPhone in iTunes- grey shading. Need Help!

I can't play tunes on my iPhone under iTunes but I can still play them with my video iPod under iTunes. Any suggestions? I'm very stumped here

I had the same problem. It's totally a different approach from the ipod. When you get into itunes, you have to first create your playlist under the playlist on the left side of the screen. All modifying and deleting is done in this folder, once done you have to sync your iphone.

any itunes purchased music can be transferred from phone to pc via hitting the "transfer purchases" option when u right click on the phone under devices in itunes on the computer when it is plugged in. any non-itunes purchased music is stuck on the phone and cannot be transferred to the computer. u will have to load it onto the computer from the original source or from the old computer.

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Can't play music with iPhone 4

    iTunes 10.5, iMac 10.7.2, iPhone 4 software 5.0
After the updates, I can't listen music via iPhone. After clicking the play button, no sound comes out and progress bar for music does not move, but the play button stays 'on". I can listen music through my iPhone from iTune store, I can listen audio books. I thought that it could be due to some error during sync, but after re sync ing whole music library, nothing has changed. I also have iPad, but that works well with new update.
    Anybody has any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem with the 3GS. Podcasts work fine. Books, fine.
Music I downloaded from itunes, I haven't checked it all, but a spot check looks like that music works.
Music imported from CD? Doesn't seem to work. Similar experience as above of it appearing to play, but the status bar doesn't move and there's no sound.
Or, it says it's playing a song, but it's really playing another song that I downloaded from itunes at some point by a totally different artist...
move info to icloud? HA. Not a chance.
Anyone have suggestions as to how to fix the music problem?

  • How can I restore music from iPhone to iTunes Library?

iTunes deleted music (the proverbial !) in my iTunes library, however the music (I want it in the library) still plays on my iPhone. I have repeatedly trying synching the iPhone (the music is still playing ok on the 3GS) but whenever I click on the song in iTunes library, I get the ! and "cannot locate song". How do I get the music on my iPhone back onto the iTunes Library? I tried synching iPhone but still ! in iTunes. This just happened the other day when I opened iTunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Len

If you have back up your music, you can restore from the backup.
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup
If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup

If you have no backup for your data on iPhone, iPhone data recovery software is your last shot! I used Wondershare iOS Data Recovery and it worked well, there are also other options available.

  • Cannot play music from Iphone on iTunes

    This is the setup:
I have a home PC that I use to sync / buy content on my Iphone. When I come to work, I have none of this data on the PC, but I want to play the content of my Iphone through my PC.
When I click on the iphone triangle and click music, the content is all grey and I cannot play (or double click to play).
How can I play this music on my Itunes?
    Thanks!

I've had this problem for ages. You've inspired me to find a fix and I appear to have found one.
I manually sync my iphone at home (computer A) and I wanted to play songs on Computer B at work. The songs were all greyed out on Computer B.
Now, to get around this I have selected "Manually manage music and videos" from the sync options in iTunes.
I have no other options selected for sync options as I do actually want to manually manage music rather than sync it.
Now, when I click on "Music" from within itTunes --> iPhone it is no longer greyed and is playable through Computer A and Computer B.
Think that made sense, if not let me know

  • I can't play music videos bought from iTunes

So I bought 3 videos from that triple play, 2 for 1 sale on itunes. I loaded all three videos unto my iphone via playlist because for some reason, they wouldn't sync even though the check mark for music videos is on. Anyway, so I transferred them over, but the videos don't play. It only plays sound, but no video. Am I missing something here? I thought I was able to play music videos on the iphone? That's the only reason why I bought those videos, I don't even have an actual video ipod...the only other ipod I have is my super old 3rd gen...any suggestions on how to get this working?

in iPod, what option are you selecting to play the music videos?
You should select Video. If you view by artist or playlist, then only the music will play.

  • Can't play music I purchased in iTunes

Why  itunes keeps on asking me to verify my account, when the computer is authorized? And doesn't play the music i purchased in itunes.

go directly to your ibook app. and you're going to find it. it's only with ibooks app.

  • Can't find "Music" under Iphone 5 "Usage"

I recently had some songs which, because of a problem with syncing, I couldn't delete. I eventually figured out how to get rid of them, but it seems that everyone else on this thread (Can't delete songs from iPhone 5) could simply go to Settings>General>Usage and select the Music app, and delete. I can't see the Music application though? Was this a change in ios 8? Is there another way to delete songs without syncing through a computer?

Restore it from your last backup.

  • Can't play podcast from iPhone 3gs iTunes app: server configuration error?

so my podcast madness radio streams and downloads fine from a desktop computer.
but on the iphone 3gs 3.0.1 i get the "server is not correctly configured" error when i try to play the same podcast in the iTunes iPhone app.
any idea the reason for this?
    thanks!

    Hello Carpathianna,
No judgment here on the music you listen to, I have that song too in my library. If iTunes is telling you that the song is missing and you purchased it from the iTunes Store, then just delete it from your iTunes library and then download your song again. Check out the articles below for more information.

  • Can i play music from iphone to desktop speakers?

I need to create sound effects for a play, skipping the theater's tech board, and would like to run a cable from my iphone 4s to some old desktop speakers I have. Will this work? What kind of cable do I need?

connect one end in the iphone and the other in the lineIn or micIn of your computer
analog signals are the same so if your speakers have RCA or a female input minijack then you can get cables with those connectors it's all generic cables not special ninja trick apple connectors

  • Can't play music from Iphone anymore since verison 7 upgrade :( anyone else experience this??

I went ti go for my run and my music was playing and then it cut out, i thought maybe my headphones were fried but then it worked again and stopped (a few times i tried) then i took the headphones out and tried playing from the cell. It plays for a few seconds then goes quiet and i cant turn any volume on?? WTH APPLE!! I have gym now and i wont have music >:( GRRR

I've been having problems with texting pictures since I updated to iOS 7 too but have yet to find a solution that actually works.  I have also tried to reset my phone numerours times, have MMS turned on, etc.  It doesn't matter if I'm trying to send the picture to another Apple user or not.
It usually takes about 3 or 4 tries to get the picture to go through, but in many cases I have to turn my phone off then back on for it to work.
PS - I am in Canada & my service provider is Bell. However I don't believe it is a Bell issue as I didn't have any problems until AFTER the update.  Had hoped the latest update this week would've fixed it but if anything it seems worse.

  • I just installed the latest Apple TV software update today. I can still play music from my iPhone 4 to th eATV but purchased movies don't seem to start playing now - or else the buffering time is huge compared with the previous software version.  Any fix

I installed the latest software update on our Apple TV - this allows us to access VIMEO.  However, although we can still play music from an iPhone 4 we can no longer play purchased tv shows - unless the buffering process has been extended to be glacially slow!  It just shows it is loading but under the previous software release a show would start in a minute or two, nothing is happening afer 4 or 5 minutes with this one.

Thank you BDAua. This is what I typed and the reply from Terminal

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01-451, mixed mode)
BTW - this application does NOT show up in the Applications folder and I consider that a bit odd.
I also  tried typing Java for my computer to search for and this is what I got under

  • Can't Play Music In iTunes on PC

When I try to play music on pc in iTunes, I get a message saying can't locate file. Works on my iPod. I did do the locate thing for my movies, but to do this for each music file, is there a better way, what's wrong, they worked before. I recently started scyning iPhone, is when it started I think.

This is the way I would have recommended you that you go about it. If your library is in a non-standard layout then normally it still works as long as the media is restored to the same paths it held previously. Click a broken file and click CTRL+I to Get Info, then locate the file when prompted. iTunes may then offer to try to locate the rest of the missing files. This is sometimes successful. Otherwise I have a script called FindTracks that should be able to do the trick.
