Can't play NPR audio streams

I have an Imac g5 (pre intel) Mac, OSX 10.4.5. Don use Quick time much. When I try do play audi segments from the NPR (National Public Radio)website I get a widow that asks open with? the only option it offers is quicktime though I also have real player on my mac. If I go ahead and open the file with QT I get a small player with the number of the npr file but it does not play and I can't get it to play. I can open real player and open the same file and it will play. So I have 3 questions.
1) is QT able to play these NPR audio files?
2) if so, what might I need to do to make them play?
3) if not, how can I get realplayer listed as an option when I am asked if i want to save or open the file with_ ?

I thought I mentioned that I have Real player installed. I can open the npr smil files from my firefox browser but not to Real Player. The only open with option available is QuickTime which is set as the default. (can I change that?)
Ihave QT 7.0.4 Itried to find a control panel. I couldn't.( is the QT control panel onl omn later versions, Itried the help progam and zip) The only thing I found was in the QT preferences/advanced/mime settings in which the smil 1 file opition was already unchecked.
I don't know what to try next. I want to be able to open the smil files into Real player. Either to set that as the default or as a choice.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

C# Webbrowser using VLCplugin to play online audio stream

Hello all,
I have been trying to get the VLC to play a audio stream from a URL address.
I created a forms application and added a webbroswer from the toolbox. I can navigate no problem but if I goto a link like
http://audio.wgbh.org/otherWaysToListen/wcai.m3u
I get a popup dialog that asked do I want to open this file. If i accept VLC opens and it plays no issue.
However, what I want is it to play without the popup and in my application not with the VLC installed on my computer.
I have seem many things about VLC selecting files but I have not been able to find a reference for pulling a stream with my C# form when browsing with the webbrowser item on my form.
Any help would be thankful.

Do you want to open the url without the popup? If so, I think you could block downloads from the webbrowser control, the link below shows the details:

But with this way, I am afraid that you could not open the audio. If you want to open the audio without the popup, I think you could automatically download the file, more information you could turn to the link below:

But if you want to open the audio in your application without the VLC, I am afraid that you could not achieve that. As you know, the audio needs the special player from the URL, I think it is restricted if you want to open the audio without the player.

What App are you using to get the audio stream? Safari should work unless Flash is involved.
I have used the free NPR App to listen to radio stations, but I don't know if it works with TV stations.

How can I play an audio CD with QT 7.1.6?

I want to play an audio CD with QuickTime 7.1.6.
When I click on Open file and select the CD drive, change th file type to Audio Files and mark "Open as read-only" nothing is displayed. When I change to "All Files (.)" the tracks are showed with an ".cda" extension. When I dobleclick on a track, I get the Error -2048: the file is not a movie file.
How can I play an audio CD with QuickTime 7.1.6?

I confirm your issue as I just tried an audio CD in my XP laptop. "All Files" showed only the 44 byte .cda files and no others. QuickTime couldn't open them (error -2048).
I also tried "Open File" with version 7 Pro and it couldn't open.
Odd that I get the option to open using iTunes and it opens and plays just fine. Since iTunes uses the QuickTime engine I would have thought QuickTime could read the files directly.
The same audio CD inserted in my Mac allowed me to double click any track and it opened directly in QuickTime Player. The files show as .aiff files measured in MB's.
Windows users could open an audio CD in iTunes and then convert to .aiff (no compression) and then open the .aiff in QuickTime.
I guess I should have tried myself before getting your hopes up. I apologize.

Can't play live audio (or video) mobile using 4.5.1

I'm trying to play a live audio stream in a mobile project and cannot get it to work.
Can someone point me to the best way to play live audio from an rtmp stream in Flash Builder 4.5.1? I've tried VideoPlayer, VideoDisplay, Sound object, used a netStream and can't get anything to work. I've tested the stream with a Flex 3 project and can hear the audio there fine. I'd like to do video later, but I need the audio to work first.

Moving files from an existing install can indeed cause problems, as the error message you got indicated. Existing files and registry entries will point to a particular location, that will not have changed as you moved the files. It sounds like you may have to do a CleanSweap (removal of drivers and software) and reinstall. Let us know how you get on.

How can I play live http streaming in osmf?

Hi,
I was trying to play live http streaming in osmf player but it was saying "Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.". I think I need to do some change in OSMF player code to play live as vod plays fine. Can anybody point me in that direction?

I downloaded StrobeMediaPlayback from https://sourceforge.net/projects/smp.adobe/files_beta/StrobeMediaPlayback_1.5_Sprint-4/ (10.1 version) and it is working for me.
By the way when I try to play live Http in debug flash player with my previous player then I get following error :

Can i play the audio for rented movies through the airport express

I'm watching a rented iTunes movie on my Mac and would like the audio to play through my Airport express to my stereo speakers. Can't figure it out.

iTunes won't play the audio through your airport express due to the video and audio being out of sync.

Can iTune convert MPEG audio stream files?

For my iMovie projects I sometimes need Sound Effects. They can be downloaded for free from the Internet, however the audio files are in the "MPEG audio stream" format. I can listen to them, but iMovie will not accept them. Can they be converted to file recognizable by iMovie?

You cannot convert streams, because you're not actually downloading an audio file, but only the link to it.
There are 3 audio capture applications known to me, which can be used to record the streams and add the recordings to iTunes.

Cannot play Real Audio stream in my N82

i have this Real Audio link:
rtsp://stream2.rbb-online.de/encoder/radioeins-live.ra
It plays fine on my desktop computer. But, when I use the URL in the web browser on my N82, Realplayer opens, tries to establish a connection and thats it... nothing....
I have correct settings, I connect via WLAN and have opened the UDP ports on my router, so no issues here. I would be grateful for any hint!

No solution found yet. I believe the radio station's stream is encoded in a real audio format the installed Realplayer does not understand. This also applies to MPEG4 AVC1 encoded video podcast streams that cannot be handled by the Realplayer used on Nokia devices. More and more podcasts use this codec.I hope, Nokia will adress these issues, the Realplayer on the N82 and maybe on other devices as well is dated 2007 and obviously can only handle very basic codecs. Nokia, do something about this! The only way out *may* be the N900 which *might* have much more powerful media players due to its Linux based OS.

Bei Videopodcasts im mpeg4 avc1 Format ist das auch so, den Videopodcast z.B. von "neues" oder "Neues aus der Anstalt" kann man auf vielen Nokia auch nicht wiedergeben.Keine Ahnung, ob es für Mobilgeräte einen neueren Realplayer gibt, der damit klarkommt, der installierte Realplayer scheint nicht alle Codecs zu unterstützen. Es liegt an Nokia, hier einen besseren Realplayer anzubieten. Ich liebäugele mit dem N900, das hat vielleicht aktuellere Mediensoftware.

You never edit within a clip. The purpose of opening a clip is to make sync adjustments, audio equalization, color correction, stabilization, things that you might want do overall to the master clip before you edit it. You edit the portion of the clip you want from the browser into a project. There is really very seldom any need to open a clip into the timeline.

Is that file played in a tab in the current window or in a separate pop-up window?
Are you allowing pop-up to modify the window size (dom.disable_window_move_resize = false)?

[SOLVED] Single audio source (can't play multiple audio sources)

Hi,
I have been having this problem in my arch laptop for a long time until I decided to put an end to it. I am using Gnome 3 and pulseaudio, and whenever an app "grabs" the audio, it won't release it, meaning no other apps can play sound. Even when one firefox tab grabs the audio (for instance, Gtalk notifications, youtube videos...) no other tabs can play it. I can avoid the problem if I reload the tab, or close the app.
Is it a weird problem? Is it related to pulseaudio? I haven't found information related to this.
