Can't play radio stations

After a station plays for 10 seconds or so I get the message "network stalled" and I'm told that ITunes is "rebuffering stream". This happens once or twice, then ITunes just stops trying to play the station. This happens on every station I have tried to play. Yes, I have gone to preferences and increased the buffering size. This is about the 5th annoying glitch since I bought this piece of junk Mac with the Intel chip. I'm about ready to throw it out the window and go back to my old IMac. Any help out there?
  Mac OS X (10.4.4)

There is a discrepancy between the stream rate and your ISP connection rate - your connection rate is slower than the stream rate. Or the server is overloaded and can't supply all the streams that are connected. Or you are downloading several web pages or other files at the same time - competing for bandwidth.
iTunes radio works. I listen all the time (over DSL).

  • Can the iPod Touch play radio stations?

Can the iPod Touch play radio stations? I have an older iPod and I use the Apple product (below) to listen to radio stations on it. I'm thinking of getting an iPod Touch and was wondering if there's any similar products that I can use for the iPod Touch, or even if there's app that would allow me to play radio stations. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

as already said, most (if not all) of the radio station apps require wifi access, which is fine if you just want to listen where you have wifi access (i.e. at home) but not so good if you want to listen out and about.
i recently bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-Robi-DAB-iPod-adapter/dp/B000X24UOM
which is brilliant, but i see you're in america, and i dont think you have DAB (digital) Radio over there. there may well be similar products out there though.

  • Playing Radio Stations

When playing Radio Stations on ATV, the music will play for a while, 10 to 20 minutes, and then the ATV freezes and the music stops playing. At this point the ATV is completely frozen up. In a few more minutes, ATV will reboot and everything is fine, once again.
Are there any settings in my Airport Extreme Base Station that can be set differently to keep this from happening? Or, is this an issue with ATV?
    Tom

We know there are genuine issues with this current software version that there haven't generally been before. If this is another one of these issues then no it shouldn't happen, however we shouldn't now be assuming that all problems are of this nature and aren't simply caused by some outside factor that can be corrected.
The issues that we know about I can either recreate by following the same procedure (ie album art) or can't because I don't have the set up to recreate it (ie HDMI) but accept that it exists because of the volume and reliability of the users posting such problems. I have neither heard this issue before nor am able to recreate it, I accept it exists but believe it may be as a result of specific unusual circumstances.
You obviously feel that the tv should be able to tell the user of these exceptional circumstances, whereas I feel its asking a lot, since a normal computer couldn't do that, nor could anything if these exceptional circumstances were just overwhelming the tv and causing it to freeze. You obviously feel that it shouldn't just reboot under such circumstances, whereas I think it's exceptionally good that it does. These are just different opinions.
The OP asked if it might be their network settings, I agree it is unlikely, but I felt it worth mentioning I thought it could be other network issues, the implication of which was that I didn't see any harm in say, trying ethernet, changing the wifi channel etc etc.
The OP hasn't really given much more info, so we haven't had much chance to expand the matter or explore other avenues, we don't know if this occurs for just radio or for all content, all I was trying to do was leave all options open.
In your example of a computer crashing when entering info into a spreadsheet, yes if this happened every time I'd suspect the spreadsheet software, but if the data was being entered over the internet by another user, I'd find it difficult to rule out the internet and continue to blame the spreadsheet application.
I'm not sure how much stuff you have connected to your computer, I have a lot and I generally find that any problems I have are down to outside connections. I can't say I haven't but I'm reasonably confident my computer has never frozen except for the reason of a third party device attached to it.

  • Can I add radio stations to iTunes?

Thanks Ryan, but how in the name of our dear lord in heaven do I add a radio station to a smart playlist.
All I have is the URL:
    http://www.garnierstreamingmedia.com/asx/radio538.asp
    So no drag+drop.

Baltimore, Maryland Yes, you can add radio stations to iTunes. However, you cannot add the radio stations to the “Radio” source in the source list. You only have the ability to add radio stations into the “Library” source.
You can always make a Smart Playlist, though, and name it something such as “My Radio Stations” or a name of your choice. What this will do is organize all of your personal radio stations that are not listed in the "Radio" source and create easy access and some organization to your downloaded internet radio stations in iTunes. To find internet radio stations, here are a few links:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
There are other sites, of course. When you go to these sites, you will see lists of internet radio stations. To get the station of your choice into iTunes, you will need to download either the .pls, .m3u, or .mp3 file from that station. Once the file has downloaded, find it on your computer and double-click it. This should open iTunes. Note: XM Radio Online will not work for this. If it ever does work, I will update this. Sorry! If not, drag the file into iTunes Library and it will import into your library. Now, onto organizing and creating the Smart Playlist of your internet radio stations.
To create a Smart Playlist based on the internet radio stations you have downloaded, go to File > New Smart Playlist. A window will appear asking you for information. Make sure the “Match the following condition:” box is checked. From the first drop down menu, choose “Kind.” From the second drop down menu, choose “is”. To the right of that is a blank field where you can enter in what kind of file you wish to have in this Smart Playlist. You will want to add “MPEG audio stream” (without quotes) in that field.
Lastly, check the box that says “Live Updating” which will update your Smart Playlist of radio stations when you add more stations to your library. Then whenever you want to listen to your favorite radio station, you can click on that Smart Playlist in the source list and you will see all the internet radio stations you have added to iTunes.
    Enjoy the music!
Note: There is no way of adding an internet radio station to the "Radio" source list in iTunes. Contacting Apple more than likely won't yield a response, but you can list your station on Shoutcast, Live365, RogueAmoeba (links listed above) to be seen and heard by listeners worldwide.
iTunes does not support Windows Media Player format or Real Player One format, so those streams cannot be played through iTunes and must be played through their respective applications.

I read the answer to this question and appreciated the information, but where on the web do you find the sources that were listed - namely:
    • DDance.FM Digital Dance Radio
    • Macstreams/Rogue Amoeba
    • Live365.com
    • UK Radio Stations
    • Shoutcast
    • Radio-Locator (not the best for locating online radio feeds)
I would like to add internet stations, too, but don't know how to find the stations.

  • Can't get radio station, seems pc users can

HI, I'm trying to get a radio station from a certain site. iTunes does not list this small station. Site says I need Windows Media Player and Flash player. I have both. Can someone with a Mac try to get the station and tell me if you know why I'm not getting it or if its possible to get it? Station should be at www.amistadradiogroup.com , look to upper right and click on meter right under "listen live". Can you get it? Why? Thanks

Hi, rothis, and welcome to Apple Discussions. I can't listen to the station either, through Safari or the latest Firefox: WMV, Flip4Mac and QuickTime all refuse to play it. So it isn't just you, but audio/multimedia stuff isn't my strong suit, and I don't know what to suggest.

  • My imac has stopped playing radio stations

My Imac has stopped playing radio stations

If it is a G5, G4, or G3, then it is possible the stations that are playing no longer support the old standards that supported your Mac.  If you are using an Intel Mac, you posted to the wrong forum.  PPC indicates Macs that predate 2006.   We can redirect your thread to the proper forum with a quick notification to the moderators, once you tell us what you are running on your Mac, and what radio stations are giving you difficulty.

  • I cannot play radio station with embedded player on Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
Since buying my first ever Macbook Pro back in April 2012 I have had problems playing radion stations which appear to have embedded player (MWP?). I installed Flip4Mac and have the latest version of [Version 10.2 (603.6)], updated plug-ins for both Google Chrome and Mozila Firefox and still no joy.
The machine came with Lion 10.7 installed and I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8. This upgrade didn't help with the problem either. The radio station im am trying to listen to is www.radiovaleam.com
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    GGQB

    Thanks Varjak Paw!
I know this particular radio station is very hit and miss as far as being on air is concerned, but the problem that I am having is that the controls on their page are not shown by my browsers on Mountain Lion, as shown in the picture below:
Any idea where I am going wrong here? All my systems seems to be up-to-date and working well, with the exception of instances like this particular one, and always to do with some media formats.
    Best wishes,

  • Apple TV Played Radio Stations for awhile

I followed the advice of one of the articles and was able to listen to Radio Stations on Apple TV, but then it suddenly stopped working. In iTunes, I created a playlist called RadioStations and added some Radio stations to it. And on Apple TV, those radio stations appeared in the playlist. It was great, for a while...I could actually listen to radio from Apple TV. But then after a day, the playlist became empty on Apple TV. The playlist is still there in iTunes, but no longer works in Apple TV. What gives?

How full is your AppleTV? The priority of syncing puts movies and tv shows before music (playlists) and photos being last.
If you recently got a new movie or tv show, if they sync over and the AppleTV sees it may need room, it will remove lower priority stuff (music/playlists, photos).
Have you tried to see if you go into streaming mode if you can access the playlist?

  • Accessing the radio - how can I play Radio 1?

I am hoping someone can help me. Does anyone have any idea how I can access the radio on the iPhone? Is there an app to support this? When I try streaming through the internet the phone says the flash player isn't new enough to work. How can I fix this?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Lou

There are several radio players for the iPhone. Of them, I recommend the following the most:
    - FStream (free but pretty limited; however, it's the best free radio)
    - ooTunes (excellent and isn't too expensive)
    - Pocket Tunes (a bit more expensive; somewhat less featured than ooTunes but still one of the best)
I've also published a huge roundup of all these titles on a lot of other iPhone forums (but not on this, because I'm still not Level 1) - just Google for the above players (as FStream ooTunes Pocket Tunes) to find them.

Neither station will tune in when I double click.

It's a bum URL, and doesn't work with any player I've tried (iTunes, QuickTime Player, VLC). Note that I only tested the 64kbps stream.
Update: I just opened the stream URL (http://radmarg.sc.llnwd.net:12105/) with my browser and checked the SHOUTcast status. The server is down.
