Can't play this video on Quicktime X but works on Quicktime 7

I am having this same problem. I believe everything was working fine before I installed Lion the other day. The thing is, I also installed Final Cut Pro X (Previously had Final Cut Express installed), and so I am not sure what screwed up my ability to play this video. ere is some information, I would appreciate any help anyone can give:
I cannot play m4v files in iTunes or QT 10.1(501). I was not sure how to install just Quicktime, so I re-installed all of Lion and still does not work.
VLC and QT 7 play the file just fine.
I have tried installing the latest version of Perian, still will not play
I have uninstalled DivX and I don't see any particular other video codecs installed.
Compressor 4 loads the file and can play it fine
MPEG Streamclip plays the file fine
QT 7 reports format as "MPEG-4 (Perian)"
QT 10.1 reports format as "mpeg4"
VLC reports Codec as MPEG-4 Video (mp4v)
In the log I get this when I try to click the play button in QT 10.1:

If your Lion QT 10.1 can play this file let me know, and if so why it can play (did you install a special codec?), or if not and you know why it doesn't play please let me know.
Very frustrating. Does anyone know where I can download the QT 10.1 that comes with Lion to try to re-install just that? I also tried to Repair Permissions.

I came here as I'm having trouble playing back MPEG4 files using Lion. I tried your file - clicking it plays fine in Safari, but downloading and opening in Quicktime X will not play (however if I drag the slider and scrub through it, I can see every frame, it just won't play.)
This is on a clean Lion Server - only video thing I've installed is VLC and that was because I was having issues.

I am having few avi video files which having (avi.avi) extension i couldn't figure out how its occured(they all video files captured from samsung galaxy note,and appeared noraml avi files but became avi.avi i tried removing one extension,eventhough it says having one extension when you look in to the properties of that file you can see avi.avi ,the problem is eventhough it playable in vlc sometime,when i try to import to premiere pro -it says the file is corrupted.

Can't play the video in my Lumia 520

I always love the work of nokia and this time trailer app is just Nice but there's a problem.
I have downloaded 6 trailers and only 1 is able to play.
Rest of them says "sorry we can't play this video on your phone".
I have no idea what's wrong with my phone.

What is the error message displayed when you try playing the video? Have you tried using mobile data? If yes, does it show the same issue? What fixes have you tried so far? By the way, are you using the same phone model?

Quicktime Pro 7.2 Can't Play Lynda Videos Chris Orvig

Hi,
I can't play Lynda videos from "Photoshop CS3 for Photographers" with
Chris Orvig.
They all have the .mov extension. Quicktime Pro gives an error msg,
"error -2048 Couldn't open the file <XXXXXFILENAMEXXXXX> because it is
not a file that Quicktime understands".
I tried Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic from K-Lite, but
neither can play it either.
All my other videos are playing ok. After the error I installed every
codec from K-Lite Codec Pack Full.
It's still not working.
How do I fix this, where do I find a patch?
I've sent an email to Lynda technical support.

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive) the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally, most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed , I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)

So, the only way to watch home video in ipod touch is via itunes? Because in fact i'm trying to use my ipod touch as a video monitor for my DSLR camera while i use it for filming. I thought i could use the hdmi adapter for ipod touch, but everyone tells me that it might not be possible, so i wont buy it without knowing if it is possible or not. I wonder if it is phisicaly possible, so all we would need for that is someone to develop a softare to use the hdmi adapter to watch a video into an ipod. I say this because my camera has a hdmi video out, but it could be with simple RCA cables too. Someone think it is possible?

I can't play certain videos from the internet on my macbook.
When using Sarfari or Google Chome, I am unable to play some videos on the internet. News clips, posted videos on blogs, and tv episodes from their own network websites. Youtube videos are fine. I doesn't make sense.
I tried downloading an update for quicktime, but the computer claims that quicktime is up to date. Yet, the videos and tv episodes don't play.
I have checked for the most recent software updates, and everything is up to date. Nothing is wrong with the hardware either.
Any suggestions would be awesome! Thank you!

In addition to Flash, you might need some other plugins. Microsoft videos are mostly in Silverlight, and you'll want Flip4Mac to play WMVs. Perian contains codecs for pretty much every video online.

Thank you for that, I wanted to make sure I was trying to replicate the same thing as you. Just tried it now, works fine for me.
Of note though, this will take a relatively well performing network to achieve this, I have such a network, if your network is not as good as it might be, you might encounter problems.
For the avoidance of doubt, I used the remote app on my phone to get my iTunes library on my computer to stream music to 3 of my Apple TVs, I then used the remote app to control another Apple TV and get it to stream a music video from my computer to it. Of interest I managed to do this while my wife was using yet another Apple TV (not with the remote app) to watch something else from iTunes on my computer.

DRM is BS. Can't play BOUGHT VIDEOS!!!!!!

Is there any solution to this without the headache of converting everything I buy from iTunes (shows/movies) to a non-drm format? I bought a brand new LG LW5600 TV and it has an app on it called Mediaplex. I installed the server on my iMac 27" so I could watch my legally purchased video content on my new 46" TV. After going through all the trouble of setting everything up, I connected to the server with the TV only to get an error that Mediaplex can not play this DRM content.
So I'm left with either buying a freaking Apple TV or using an HDMI cable to connect the Mac. Just to do the same thing my TV already has built in capability of doing.
This is ridiculous! I PAID FOR THIS CONTENT AND NOW YOU REQUIRE ME TO USE AN APPLE PRODUCT TO WATCH IT???
I'm pretty sure there isn't a solution besides those I've mentioned above. So yeah, I just want to vent and let Apple know I'm not buying any more of my Tv shows or Movies from iTunes. Not until they get their **** together.
I don't see how this DRM crap affects pirates what-so-ever. The only people getting screwed by it are the legal customers purchasing content through iTunes.

All digital movies have that, its not just Apple. Amazon probably has the same policy, you can only play it through amazon apps. It's not Apple's fault, its just the way the Networks and Movie companies require retailers to sell their products. It's already known to be not stopping piracy at all (easily removable with 3rd part software). Music companies already took DRM away from itunes music about 2 years ago, lets hope these TV Networks figure it out soon.

Can't play music videos in sequence

I have about 10 - 12 music videos on my iMac, all of which were downloaded from iTunes.
I can only play one video on the AppleTV and then it stops. Is there a way to play iTunes music videos on my AppleTV in either shuffle or sequence? After one video plays it does not advance to the next video. I have syched the videos to my AppleTV.
